Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4XXX should be kept in a 24x24x24 ft. sealed plexiglass container, which in itself is contained in a 48x48x48 ft. plexiglass container. The interior glass container is used to allocate the proper space SCP-4XXX is to be in, whilst the exterior is to designate where SCP-4XXX should be in the event it has escaped the interior glass container. The containment room must have at least a 3 ft space between the exterior glass container and the containment wall. All surfaces must be lit during non-testing time spans, during which no personnel may enter unless given permission to do so to repair a light. Non-testing personnel entering the containment room must be equipped with a full-body rubber body suit as well as a separate oxygen tank to facilitate breathing. Maintenance personnel will be guided by observers using infrared sensors. If SCP-4XXX-01 is located outside of the sealed container, SCP-4XXX-01 must be put back in the container. Due to the interior container being sealed a new container must be made and SCP-4XXX-01 be replaced inside it.
Description: SCP-4XXX has two components listed as SCP-4XXX-01 and SCP-4XXX-02. The former is an object that can be opened or has an opening. Throughout testing this object has changed several times but during initial obtainment SCP-4XXX-01 was a small redwood jewelry box that could fit in both hands.

SCP-4XXX-01 has previously been:
- A redwood jewelry box
- An open flower vase
- A pink dollhouse
- A plastic cup
- A plastic bag
- A blue car with blacked out windows (No maker or style matched any existing vehicles to date)
SCP-4XXX-01 is currently an industrial size metal crate with an askew top. Some tests have been done on SCP-4XXX-01 in an attempt to close or open containers which could be opened or closed, but none have been successful thus far.
SCP-4XXX-02 has been confirmed to move of it's own volition, it's ability to move away from SCP-4XXX-01 has been deemed essentially limitless as defined in [[Experiment Log 4XXX-BX]] SCP-4XXX-01 has been seen to move as well, approx. 32-46 ft. when enclosed in darkness and according to speed tests moves at a speed of 97mph to it's new location. Since it has not been allowed to exit the external box and is always relocated to the internal box it can be deemed safe compared to it's secondary part. Tests will be run in the future to observe if there are any types of containers it cannot escape from.
Testing has been done in which lights have been reduced, turned off, left lit, or changed in color. Different personnel have entered the exterior glass container during the aforementioned changes in light, each personnel has varied in age, gender, illnesses (both mental and physical) and defects (both mental and physical.) During the darkened and dark changes, the second component (labeled SCP-4XXX-02) has been reportedly sensed. Only through infrared sensors can the creature be seen. SCP-4XXX-02 is a thing of darkness with a face consisting of only teeth and in some cases eyes. Personnel being tested on have not always admitted to seeing a face regardless of whether or not it has been seen with a face through infrared sensors. SCP-4XXX-01 can sometimes be heard closing after personnel have been affected.
Lights have been returned to normal after most testing cases in which personnel have had different cases ranging from mental trauma from which a phobia of theirs was exaggerated to different instances of death.
SCP-4XXX-02 has caused multiple cases ranging from:
- Death from being frozen
- Death from bleeding out
- Death from asphyxiation despite cases ranging from bleeding out and/or slit throats
- Mental Trauma from personnel with different phobias regardless of whether or not the phobia is of something physical (ex. Spiders) or conceptual (ex. Long words)
- Personnel attempting to claw out their eyes or where their eyes have already been clawed out
- Gashes on the body (non-lethal)
- Some instances in which other non-threatening SCP (such as SCP-014 or SCP-16) have been applied to personnel
- Some rare instances in which non-biological SCP deaths had been repeated. These rare instances were where the personnel had witnessed similar deaths while working with other SCPs (such as SCP-004)
It is not currently understood why SCP-4XXX-02 finds it relevant to attack personnel in the first place but the current working speculation is that it seeks to protect SCP-4XXX-01 to some degree. This speculation is not completely accurate considering SCP-4XXX-01 has been moved. It may also be possible that SCP-4XXX-01 is simply a cover for SCP-4XXX-02. Further testing needed.
Additional Notes: SCP-4XXX-02 has attacked several maintenance personnel who have tried to fix the lights despite the fact that the lights were lit. Testing is still underway to see if the SCP is aware of the lighting locations and if it understands that fixing the lights will make it more difficult to attack other personnel.
SCP-4XXX-01 was located in it’s first form (jewelry box) in a darkened house in ███████████,Germany. A woman who had been searching for something (likely ghosts as the house was condemned and old) had entered the room SCP-4XXX-01 was located in. She was found in a state of [DATA EXPUNGED]. After police came out traumatized by something and testified about it to local news, Foundation agents picked up the news stories about it and a squad of retrieval units was deployed. Witnesses were terminated and the news station was covered up by discrediting it as "tabloid news."
SCP-4XXX is to be kept at Site 86 and should not be moved unless cleared by O5 to do so and currently should only be moved to Research sites. This specific site is used to study all international relics and/or artificial creations of unknown origin. Please do not request removal unless it is deemed absolutely necessary
“It seems that it is an otherwise unstoppable force unless lighting befalls it. Even then it doesn’t seem to be stopped. It seems it's attacks are halted by the body suits as they cancel out vision as well as supplying a descent amount of protection against physical attacks. Not much is known otherwise about it but at least we have something nailed down.” -Dr. Ulken
Addendum 1: Personnel afflicted with non-lethal problems associated with other SCP have been terminated where termination can be applied. Level 4 Clearance is required to view further information regarding this topic.
Addendum 2: Keter class given to SCP-4XXX due to containment not always reliable. Whilst it can generally be contained it seems to break current understanding of containment protocols from time to time. Containment is not completely understood yet marking this SCP as an unusual contained anomaly in it's own right.
