Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5183 should be contained in an airtight heat-resistant anomalous containment locker at Site-██. The locker should be kept at the temperature of the range 68–72 Fahrenheit or 20–22 Celcius. Both coolant and heating systems should be on standby at all times.

Description: SCP-5183 is approximately 1.2m or 3.9 feet long, 1.4m or 4.5 feet wide and 0.8 or 2.6 feet tall. SCP-5183 appears to be a porous blackish greyish rock, although previously determined to be composed of mainly ash. It was recently discovered on 2/12/19██ to be composed of ████████. See Addendum ████-██.

If SCP-5183 has a lower or higher temperature than usually regulated, it releases a gas composed of a material with similar properties to nicotine. This gas is now known as SCP-5183-2, and when inhaled has been found to cause damage to the lungs, lowered brain function, and oxygen deprivation. In some cases, when class D personal inhaled copious amounts of SCP-5183-2, it caused permanent damage to other organs such as the kidneys, skin, eyes and heart. See Addendum 5183-a. SCP-5183-2 doesn’t appear to affect anything non-organic. See Addendum 5183-cc. It seems to make other animals have similar effects on humans. See Addendum 5183-aa. Plants, however, (with proper light and water) seem to thrive. See Addendum 5183-b and 5183-bb.

[Addendum 5183-a: Class D lightly affected by SCP-5183-2 have reported small pains and difficulty breathing. The Class D that survived being heavily affected by SCP-5183-2 have reported pain in joints, eyes and chest. As well as a seeming impossibility to breathe at all. The Class D that did not survive SCP-5183-2 have been dissected and have been found having many internal organs and other body parts damaged, body parts including the skin, eyes, tung, vocal cords, teeth, muscles, tendons, skull, brain, ribcage, heart, digestive tract, lungs and blood vessels. Lungs have been found to be the main cause of death, the dissected sometimes having unnaturally large holes in their lungs. The blood in the arteries of the dissected was oxygen-poor, and in some cases, the arteries were damaged and causing internal bleeding. The muscles of the dissected were found to be oxygen-deprived and weak.]

[Addendum 5183-aa: Animals such as Sus Scrofa Domesticus, Bos Taurus, Hominoidea, Canis Lupus Familiaris, Felis Catus and Aves, lightly affected by SCP-5183-2 have been found to show discomfort and heavy breathing. Animals heavily affected by SCP-5183-2, had different reactions based on species, Sus Scrofa Domesticus also known as the domestic pig would repeatedly and forcefully roll on the ground. Bos Taurus, also known as the common cow would become loud and stop movement until SCP-5183-2 was removed. Most Hominoidea, also known as apes, would become aggressive and make as much noise as possible. Canis Lupus Familiaris also is known as the domestic dog, would either bark loudly or go to a corner and make no sound or just whimper. Felis Catus, also known as a domestic cat, will go to a wall and begin meowing loudly. Aves also known as a bird (many kinds were used in this test, the only difference was the sound they made), chirped loudly and seemed to lose their sense of direction flying into the wall of the test chamber.]

[Addendum 5183-b: Plants usually suffocate when completely covered by nicotine, however, despite SCP-5183-2 having a similar substance to nicotine. Plants, when covered by SCP-5183-2, seem to get the proper oxygen they need. Although SCP-5183-2 does not give the plants the proper sunlight and water they need to survive.]

[Addendum 5183-bb: Dr Wilkes recently discovered why “-despite SCP-5183-2 having a similar substance to nicotine. Plants, when surrounded by SCP-5183-2, seem to get the proper oxygen they need.” and discovered a █████ ███████ called ██████████████. ██████████████, has a firm structure while still resembling nicotine. Although because of ██████████████, it would cause a need for more water and sunlight.]

[Addendum 5183-c: After attempting to start a fire while SCP-5183 creates SCP-5183-2 and actively fills an airtight testing room. Using standard matches, a fire was successfully created and was sustained until the test was ended. We have concluded that ██████████████ somehow holds oxygen. Dr Wilkes suggested that if we could properly filter ██████████████, we would have an infinite supply of oxygen.]

[Addendum 5183-cc: Attempts to filter properly ██████████████ has proven difficult and expensive but possible. Using a standard SCP ventilation filter changed the nicotine amount from 73.23% to 72.97%. After designing a more suitable filter called 5183-cc-𝛂. We found a difficulty; the substance we made 5183-cc-𝛂 out of was designed on the assumption that SCP-5183-2 did not affect non-organic substances. Tests for proper filtration will be done on a later date. See Addendum 5183-d.]

[Addendum 5183-d: After the failure of 5183-cc-𝛂, more testing regarding how SCP-5183-2 interacts with non-organic substances was conducted. SCP-5183-2 appears to stick to all plastics that were tested with. Plastic is the main substance in 5183-cc-𝛂, which is likely the cause of failure. Steel, copper, tin, bronze and iron have been concluded to have no response to SCP-5183-2. Cadmium, mercury, and lead all reacted by releasing their harmful chemicals into the testing room; however, a further examination found that the chemicals released were turned into gas compounds. Further research using these gas compounds will be completed at a later time, See Addendum 5183-e, as 5183-cc-ꞵ has taken priority. See Addendum 5183-dd.]

[Addendum 5183-dd: 5183-cc-ꞵ’s exterior has been constructed out of bronze and interior out of plastic for structure. Tests with 5183-cc-ꞵ have proven extremely successful, nicotine levels dropping from 73.23% to 40.89%. After this test, Dr. Wilkes asked for a departure from the SCP Foundation, and the said request has been granted. And as of 3/17/19██, Dr Wilkes has returned to normal civilian life. As such Dr. Master has taken over the project.]

Show Addendum 5183-e

[Addendum 5183-e: Dr. Master has proved themselves a proper replacement to Dr. Wilkes. Dr. Master created 5183-cc-Ɣ made out of purely bronze, it was expected to have a 5183-cc-Δ and a 5183-cc-Ω. However, 5183-cc-Ɣ has reduced nicotine levels in SCP-5183-2 from 73.23 to 0.98. The 0.98 is about 5mg of nicotine. As such 5183-2 is now periodically breathable, this filtered 5183-2 will be referred to as 5183-2-F.]
