Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a standard secure Safe-class storage locker in Containment Sector-01 at Site-███. The locker is to be locked with a numerical keypad, the combination is to be known only to the current lead researcher or higher ranking Foundation member(s). The combination is also to be changed in the event of a new or replacement lead researcher being hired or assigned to SCP-XXXX's containment.

SCP-XXXX-A is to be contained within a Standard Humanoid Containment Cell in Containment Sector-03 at Site-███. While questioning or otherwise utilizing, SCP-XXXX-A is to be kept within its containment cell and all personnel interacting with SCP-XXXX-A or otherwise assigned to the containment sector are to be equipped with mandated to wear an Interception-Class: α-wave Suppressant Device (ICASD)¹.

SCP-XXXX-B has been terminated and all remnants therein have likewise been destroyed. Any attempt to replicate SCP-XXXX-B or other similar anomalous effect utilizing SCP-XXXX is strictly prohibited.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a leather bound journal 13 cm in length, 11.5 cm in width, and 2.5 cm in depth. The object has a mechanical brass locking mechanism secured to an extended flap attached to the back of the object, interlocking with the other part of the mechanism on the front. There is fine detailed craftsmanship of carved patterns, woven leather strips, and an ovular yellow diaspore stone inlay in the front of SCP-XXXX (2.5 cm major axis, 1.7 cm minor axis).Testing of the pages of SCP-XXXX shows that they are primarily (97.6%) composed of cotton and secondarily (2.4%) composed of walnut powder.²

SCP-XXXX has a total of 200 pages, 23 of which are already used with the contents of their inscriptions being damaged or illegible. The first page of SCP-XXXX as seen when the cover containing the diaspore inlay is lifted contains the writing: "Property of Miss Victoria Goethe, handle with care." The remaining 178 pages all contain the same heading on each pair of pages, reading "Goals" at the top left corner of the left hand page and "Action Steps" at the top left corner of the right hand page. The pages are able to be written upon with every writing medium used to date.

SCP-XXXX has no amnestic or otherwise mind or perception altering anomalous properties. There appears to be no forced compulsory effect exhibited by SCP-XXXX upon anyone to write on the object's pages.

The anomalous properties of SCP-XXXX manifest when something is written on the "Goals" page that is a word or phrase detailing a characteristic not currently possessed by the user and there is a concurrent entry written on the "Action Steps" page containing a word or phrase detailing a characteristic that is currently possessed by the user. Upon the latter being written, SCP-XXXX removes the written attribute from the user regardless of whether the entry on the "Goals" page is granted. The written traits can be either physical o mental abilities. The user of SCP-XXXX permanently loses the characteristic written on the "Action Steps" page, however, multiple entries can be written on the same page, resulting in multiple traits being forfeited by the user. The removal of the forfeited characteristic(s) by the user is gradual and the attribute(s) subsequently are removed from the user over the span of the following 24 hours. When a certain number or severity of traits are forfeited by the user, the user then gains the entry written on the "Goals" page. The specific number of characteristics the user must surrender is not known, seeming to fluctuate with a dependency on the entry on the "Goals" page

SCP-XXXX-A is the most recent user of SCP-XXXX, having previously purchased the object from a rummage sale in ████████, New Jersey. SCP-XXXX-A appears to be a human male, approximately 20 years of age, with a greatly distended abdomen and a high percentage of adipose tissue covering the majority of the object's body. SCP-XXXX-A is completely blind, and does not have any knowledge of any alternate forms of communication other than verbal, despite the entity being unable to speak. Additionally, SCP-XXXX-A is incapable of unassisted locomotive self-transportation due to the aforementioned excess adipose tissue. SCP-XXXX-A is capable of telepathic communication with multiple individuals at a time, so long as the individuals are within 16 yards of the entity, and of limited telepathic memory access, also within 16 yards of SCP-XXXX-A.

SCP-XXXX-B is a failed experiment conducted using SCP-XXXX that resulted in the destruction of the entity designated as SCP-XXXX-B. The entity was a constructed robotic mechanism that briefly gained sentience and acquired unrecoverable information before being terminated.

The following is an interview conducted by Dr. Lance Campbell, director of Site-███, during the initial investigation.

Interviewer: Dr. Lance Campbell, Site-███

Forward: Dr. Campbell and SCP-XXXX-A are speaking after the entity has been moved into its permanent containment housing unit. A partition has been erected near the center of the room such that Dr. Campbell, the primary interviewer, and Dr. Parr, the lead researcher, are physically separated from SCP-XXXX-A. Dr. Campbell requested that Dr. Parr be present to manually record the interview log, as SCP-XXXX-A communicates solely through telepathic neural links. In this interview, SCP-XXXX-A is communicating with everyone in the room simultaneously.

Dr. Campbell: Sorry about that, now we can begin in earnest. Dr. Parr here will be transcribing the interview live, if that is acceptable.

SCP-XXXX-A: Yeah, of course, Lance. It's good to meet you, Anderson.

[Dr. Parr is noticeably taken aback, but was previously instructed to remain silent.]

SCP-XXXX-A: I didn't mean to scare you, Anderson, sorry. Sometimes, I forget [pause] what I've become. Of course, you understand, Anderson,… [SCP-XXXX-A is cut off]

Dr. Campbell: We ought to get back on subject, Bernard, don't you think?

SCP-XXXX-A: Yeah, sorry, Lance. What do you wanna know?

Dr. Campbell: First, how did you obtain the journal? [The journal in reference is SCP-XXXX]

SCP-XXXX-A: Well, I know that I just wanted to get out the house, you know? My dad [pause] passed out on the couch, so I took Tommy and left. We was just walking around, trying to enjoy the day best we could. It was, oh I don't remember the day, but it was Summer, hot as hell outside. Anyway, we was walking down the street and we seen this rummage sale, you know?

Dr. Campbell: This is in ████████, correct?

SCP-XXXX-A: Yeah, back home. So we came up on this rummage sale, really just a bunch of junk, like old clothes and stuff like that. There was a couple things that were cool, Tommy really liked movies at the time, so he was looking at the bin with the DVDs and stuff. There was a table with just a bunch of stuff on it, with the journal on it too.

Dr. Campbell: You purchased this journal, correct?

SCP-XXXX-A: Yeah. I had a couple bucks in my wallet. My counselor at school told me I should write in a diary, but I didn't want to. This journal looked nice, looked expensive, like I might be able to sell it for at least like 20 bucks. So I picked it up for a couple dollars, unfortunately I didn't have any money to get Tommy anything.

Dr. Campbell: So, you purchased the journal from a "rummage" sale and took it home. How soon was it before you began to write in it?

SCP-XXXX-A: I can't remember exactly, but not too long after, maybe a week.

Dr. Campbell: When did you start to notice anything strange about the journal?

SCP-XXXX-A: After I went blind.

Dr. Campbell: Could you please elaborate on how that occurred?

SCP-XXXX-A: Yeah. When I got home I got a better look at the journal. It was weird that the front of it was blacked out like that, but there are weirder things in Jersey. I thought it was a plain journal when I got it, so I was surprised when I saw it was a [pause], what's the word?

Dr. Campbell: Planner?

SCP-XXXX-A: Yeah, that's it! A planner. Must'a been a week later when I got real low. My dad was, well, he was beating on Tommy. [SCP-XXXX-A's telepathic communication begins to become unstable]

Dr. Campbell: Bernard, you need to calm down. We cannot continue the interview if you get upset. We cannot understand you. You need to calm down.

SCP-XXXX-A: [now audible to spectators and other Foundation members outside of SCP-XXXX-A's containment cell and within 16 yards of the entity] You don't know what I've been through, what I've done! You're not even from here! She did this to me! To Tommy! And you want to protect her? Fuck you, Lance!

Dr. Parr: XXXX-A, if you do not calm down we will be forced to sedate you.

SCP-XXXX-A: You know what it's like to lose a brother, Anderson! I didn't mean to do it, but I get punished? You think that's fucking fair? I'm fat and blind and now I'm locked in a cage! Fuck all of you!

Dr. Campbell: He must be sedated. We will finish this tomorrow, Bernard.

SCP-XXXX-A: Fuck you! You're all fucking monsters!

The following is an interview conducted by Dr. Lance Campbell, director of Site-███, 24 hours after the initial interview. A dose of amnestics have been given to SCP-XXXX-A and other previously present Foundation personnel, excluding Dr. Campbell and Dr. Parr.

Forward: Dr. Campbell and SCP-XXXX-A are speaking after the entity has been moved into its permanent containment housing unit. This interview takes place 24 hours following the initial interview, with SCP-XXXX-A being given a sedative prior to the start of the interview.

Dr. Campbell: Good afternoon, Bernard, how are you feeling today?

SCP-XXXX-A: I'm [pause] tired, I think.

Dr. Campbell: Good. Do you remember my name?

SCP-XXXX-A: Yeah, you're Lance.

Dr. Campbell: Brilliant. Shall we get started then?

SCP-XXXX-A: Uh, yeah.

Dr. Campbell: Excellent. Tell me about the first time you used the journal.

SCP-XXXX-A: Okay. I was real low, thinking about offing myself, but I had to protect Tommy. He may be big, but he wouldn't never hit dad. I had to be strong for Tommy, so I did what the counselor said I should. I wrote in the diary.

Dr. Campbell: Do you remember what exactly you wrote in the journal?

SCP-XXXX-A: [long pause] In the 'Goals' page I know I wrote, "Protect Tommy." It's hard to remember right now, sorry, Lance, I'm so tired.

Dr. Campbell: Please try to remember as best you can, Bernard.

SCP-XXXX-A: [long pause] I wrote, "See the light at the end of the tunnel." I know it's cliche, but like I said, I was low and I wasn't gonna be able to protect Tommy if I was depressed.

Dr. Campbell: How long after you wrote that did you begin to go blind?

SCP-XXXX-A: The next morning. You know how sometimes when you wake up your eyes are, like, blurry? Like that, except it didn't go away. I went to school and it got worse, so the counselor sent me home. That night, I was blind.

Dr. Campbell: Who else did you tell about this?

SCP-XXXX-A: The counselor, Tommy, and my dad. When I told dad he told me to get over it. Said to sleep it off.

Dr. Campbell: Now, I know that you wrote more in the journal, but what I cannot seem to figure out is how. If you were made blind from your first entry, how did you write in the journal?

SCP-XXXX-A: I don't know. I can't really explain it, Lance. I just [pause] knew where the journal was and I didn't really even think about being blind. I knew where the journal was and I knew hoe to write in it, like if I weren't blind.

Dr. Campbell: Dr. Parr please make a note of that.³ What about the next time you wrote in the journal?

SCP-XXXX-A: I started staying home from school when dad was gone in the morning. When he wasn't, Tommy would cut class with me.

Dr. Campbell: Please focus, Bernard. Tell me about the next time you wrote in the journal.

SCP-XXXX-A: Alright. Since I wasn't really going to school anymore, I had more time to focus on other things. But 'cause I was home more, gave dad more reason to wail on Tommy and me, so I knew if I was going to protect Tommy and get the hell outta there, I would need to check my mouth. Dad hated it when I talked back to him. So I wrote, "Keep my damn mouth shut so dad ain't got an excuse."

Dr. Campbell: What were the results of this?

SCP-XXXX-A: I couldn't talk. The next morning I was losing my voice, by night it was gone. I could still think just fine, but I was blind and mute.

Dr.Campbell: If you could neither see nor speak, how did you communicate with your brother?

SCP-XXXX-A: Tommy started sleeping in my room, he was scared 'cause some weird things were happening to me, so he wanted to make sure I was safe at night.

Dr. Campbell: I see. Is there anything else of note that occurred between this and the following time you made an entry in the journal?

SCP-XXXX-A: Not really. Tommy started training me, like exercises and stuff.

Dr. Campbell: Right. What about the next time you wrote in the journal?

SCP-XXXX-A: Since Tommy was teaching me how to get jacked, I though I should write it in the journal.

Dr. Campbell: Sorry to interrupt, Bernard, but did you at this point make any connection between what was happening to you and your entries in the journal?

SCP-XXXX-A: I have always been a sick kid. I just thought it was, like, my health. Not the journal.

Dr. Campbell: Pardon the interruption. Please continue, Bernard.

SCP-XXXX-A: No sweat, Lance, just doing your job, right?

Dr. Campbell: Indeed I am.

SCP-XXXX-A: So, I wrote, "Get big," in the journal.

Dr. Campbell: What changed after this?

SCP-XXXX-A: Well, I got big, huge in fact. I woke up in the morning a good 50 pounds heavier. All on my gut. And, like, 5 inches taller, but just my chest. I kept getting bigger, like a damn balloon, and by dinner, I couldn't even walk.

Dr. Campbell: Were you in your bedroom when this happened?

SCP-XXXX-A: Yeah. I was there until you guys came and got me out. Are you guys, like, the government?

Dr. Campbell: If there is to tell us, I think we will be done for today.

SCP-XXXX-A: Wait, I wrote in the journal one last time.

Dr. Campbell: What did you write and what were its effects?

SCP-XXXX-A: At this point I was blind, mute, and couldn't move my legs on my own. I was lucky that Tommy was still with me, 'cause dad was confused and pissed. He came in one night when Tommy weren't around and he says to me, "I wish I didn't have any fucking kids, nothing but a burden to me. First it was you being a smart mouth prick all the time, then your dumb-ass brother. Now look at you, you're fucking disgusting. I'm gonna wait until tonight before I fucking burning you two shits with the house."

Dr. Campbell: What did you write in the journal, Bernard.

SCP-XXXX-A: I'm getting there, Lance. He says this to me and I'm worried, so I write in the journal, "Somehow let Tommy know about tonight." When Tommy got back, I tried to tell him, but I couldn't talk, tried to gesture, but now I couldn't move my arms. I was screaming in my head for him to get out when I smelled the smoke. Tommy smelled it to.

Dr. Campbell: What were the results of you writing in the journal this last time? I am a bit confused.

SCP-XXXX-A: Before I wrote last time, I could still move my arms and stuff, but not after. And I also got the ability to talk like this to people.

Dr. Campbell: Thank you for elaborating. Please continue.
