Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a locked safe located on Site-██ in Sector 3.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a small wooden box with a button on one side. When the button is pressed the box utters the phrase "Elementary, Dear Watson." X-ray imaging has revealed no apparatus responsible for this utterance.
Discovery: SCP-XXXX was discovered by foundation personnel on an online auction website. When foundation personnel recovered the item, they also found the previous owner deceased in her apartment. Police originally brought in several suspects that were among the people who bid on SCP-XXXX. Despite the police investigation's findings, cause of death was attributed to a faulty carbon-monoxide detector. It is still unclear if this death is related to any anomalous properties of SCP-XXXX.
Addendum 1: After Incident XXXX-5, Sector 3 is to be staffed only by D-class personnel. Dr. Medford is the only researcher allowed in Sector 3.
Addendum 2: Dr. K███ has hypothesized that SCP-XXXX creates murder-mystery scenarios in its vicinity.
Incident Log:
Incident XXXX-1: On April 2, 20██ testing of SCP-XXXX began. On April 3, lead researcher Dr. █████ was found dead in her office.
Incident XXXX-2: On May 4, 20██ Dr. ███ resumed testing of SCP-XXXX. He was found dead in his office 2 hours after concluding testing that day.
Incident XXXX-3: On May 24, 20██ Dr. █████████ resumed testing. He died before the testing was concluded. Staff that witnessed his death reported that his death was somehow caused by an inanimate object. Each witness reported a different object.
Incident XXXX-4: Dr. K███ and Dr. L███ were assigned to SCP-XXXX. Testing began on December 12, 20██. To test one of Dr. K███'s proposals, Dr. L███ was locked in an empty, airtight room while testing was conducted. Dr. K███ died in a manner consistent with the death of Dr. █████████. Dr. L███ died in his office two days after being released from the airtight room.
Incident XXXX-5: Tests were performed on SCP-XXXX on January 2, 20██. On orders from senior foundation members, the tests were performed without researchers to guide or interpret the testing. ██ days later, Site-██ Sector 3 exploded. All on-site researchers died in the explosion. Foundation personnel have determined that an old gas-line was responsible for the explosion. In the absence of qualified personnel Dr. Medford, an intern working closely with SCP-XXXX, was assigned to be the interim lead researcher.
No incidents have occurred since Dr. Medford was assigned as lead researcher.
