An inert SCP-XXXX-1 instance on discovery site
Special Containment Procedures: All instances of SCP-XXXX are kept in bio-containment unit-XXXX at Site-319. All SCP-XXXX instances are to be watered twice a week through unit-XXXX’s sprinkler system, should receive a minimum of 8 hours of light from fluorescent lamps in unit-XXXX, and are to be fertilized with raw meat once every month after inspection for SCP-XXXX-1 instances has been completed. Temperatures inside unit-XXXX should always be kept at 30°C.
Unit-XXXX is inspected for SCP-XXXX-1 instances weekly by one (1) D-Class personnel. No other personnel is allowed entry in unit-XXXX during inspection. All seeds of SCP-XXXX-1 instances are to be destroyed and under no circumstances is the instance to be removed from SCP-XXXX until all seeds of the instance are destroyed.
Should an SCP-XXXX-2 instance arise staff is to be notified. The instance is to be locked in the containment unit at the back of unit-XXXX for a period of at least 15 days, during which no contact with the instance is allowed. Anyone who consumed an instance of SCP-XXXX-2 is set for termination within two (2) weeks of consumption in order to prevent more SCP-XXXX instances from arising.
Description: All 65 instances of SCP-XXXX are anomalous plants resembling the “Hopi Red” cultivar of Citrullus lanatus1. All fruit of SCP-XXXX, hereby referred to as SCP-XXXX-1, appear fully grown on the vines of SCP-XXXX without any intermediate stages in cycles spanning two (2) to six (6) weeks.
If an SCP-XXXX-1 instance is removed from SCP-XXXX or if the instance is left unattended for a period of around two (2) weeks it begins to produce a strong cognitohazardous effect, compelling anyone who observes the instance to consume it. This effect ceases when all seeds of the instance have been either consumed or destroyed.
Subjects who have consumed seeds of SCP-XXXX-1 are to be designated SCP-XXXX-2. SCP-XXXX-2 will begin to produce a similar cognitohazardous effect to SCP-XXXX-1, compelling anyone to go to extreme lengths to consume the brain and organs surrounding the skull of SCP-XXXX-2. The cognitohazardous effect subsides after a period of 9 to 14 days and leaves no lasting damage nor traces of SCP-XXXX-1.
Subjects under influence of an SCP-XXXX-2 instance have been reported to be extremely efficient in finding the quickest way to open the crania of SCP-XXXX-2, using nearby objects and furniture, and even going as far as headbutting until the instance's skull has been opened when no other option is available. After a period of 20 to 32 days, a new SCP-XXXX instance takes root in the brain of those who consumed the SCP-XXXX-2 instance, killing them in the process.
