Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4944 is to be contained in a standard anomalous object containment vault (SAOV) at site ██ when not in rotation between sites ██ and ██. Testing and use of SCP-4944 must be approved by 05. All personnel must score at least score 65 points on the yearly Milgram obedience examination (MOE) at site ██, and have level 4 clearance to be able to use SCP-4944. All authorized users who have come into contact with SCP-4944 must be administered class-C amnestics. All unauthorized persons who come into contact with SCP-4944 are to be terminated through any means immediately.

Description: SCP-4944 is a Sharp Compet 20 model-20A calculator with all of non-numerical buttons lacking any marks or labels. Its frontal casing is dark-grey, with the primary casing being light-grey. The device can display a total of fifteen digits, as well as a sixteenth symbol. Nine buttons, numbering one to nine, are located on the lower side of the secondary dark-grey casing, along with fourteen unmarked buttons that range in sizes.

When a user inputs one of the nine buttons marked by a numerical number, the corresponding number appears on the display. No other buttons, besides the numerically labeled ones, will respond to use before fifteen digits are selected. After fifteen digits are selected, the user will be able to input one of the fourteen unmarked buttons to complete the set. Each unmarked button, displays a different letter when inputted (Letters A-N). Once the set is complete, the word "Ready" will flash, allowing the user to press the red button located on the bottom right of the device.

Upon pressing the red button, SCP-4944, along with the user and everything within a 10 meter radius, will be instantly transported to an alternate reality based on the set of numbers and letter provided. The user will be 'rooted' to SCP-4944, and remain so until returning back to the previous reality. SCP-4944 will not respond to any inputs made by non-sentient entities. If a user dies upon reaching the other reality, SCP-4944 transports itself back to its default reality (Which has been identified as our own). These alternate realities, may differ vastly than our own; Be it, through different laws of physics, or different evolutionary or historical timelines. Upon reaching another reality, the sequence of numbers and symbols are reset, allowing for another to be inputted. Time has been determined to have the same speed and relativity across all realities that share the same laws of physics as our own.

SCP-4944 has been deemed indestructible, as it can arrive to realities with different laws of physics and arrive back to our own completely intact and unchanged. The object is constructed out of an unknown material, as scans have failed to pick up anything when focused on SCP-4944: Scans were not able to penetrate the object and identify any components within.

All users who come into physical contact with SCP-4944 will have a sudden urge to input a random code into the device. Prolonged physical contact with SCP-4944 increases said urge. As of 1986, thirty-two (32) foundation researchers have been transported to other realities and have not returned - all of which are presumed dead. As of 03/16/1986, all personnel who work around or with SCP-4944 must take yearly Milgram obedience examinations at site ██, before being sent to site ██ to work with SCP-4944.

Multiple analyses of SCP-4944 attached to users reveal that the object 'roots' itself into whatever is considered 'alive' at a molecular level. Spines and root-like protrusions made of the same material as the device's casing instantly manifest around users' flesh at a molecular level; with said roots wrapping and snaking around cells and gaps within tissues. As with the main body of SCP-4944, these protrusions are indestructible. Such 'rooting' only occurs when exposed to carbon-based flesh. Experiments and trials have determined that the device does not respond to any inputs made by non-sentient entities; it is unknown how SCP-4944 determines whether or not something is sentient, nor is it known how it considers something such.

Two-hundred-thirty-eight (238) combinations have been identified as survivable and safe to travel to. Four (4) of which as 'Storage-Spaces', eighty-two (82) as 'Monovular Realities', and one-hundred-forty-nine (149) as 'Sileo-Spaces'. Nine (9) realities have been confirmed to be directly related to SCP-████, SCP-████, and SCP-████. As of 2017, investigations are being conducted to find any correlation between SCP-4944 and the anomaly designated as SCP-████. If SCP-████ continues to grow in size, use of SCP-4944 is to stop immediately and to be reserved for relocating remaining 05 personnel and supplies to outpost 'Alpha' in the event of a XK-Class or YK-Class scenario.

Senior research director Dr. Northem fell under the influence of SCP-4944's effects while handling the device with medical grade disposable gloves. Dr. Northem inputted an unknown code into SCP-4944 and was transported to another reality along with three other persons; Dr. Held, Dr. Gouklen, and janitor Boris Bulansky… Approximately twelve (12) seconds later, SCP-4944 returned alone. Dr. Northem, Dr. Held, Dr. Gouklen, and Boris Bulansky are presumed dead… Incident has been determined to be caused by a micro-tear along Dr. Northem's gloves, which allowed contact between SCP-4944 and Dr. Northem.

Addendum 2: SCP-4944
"The penetrating protrusions seem to be made out of the same material as the rest of 4944 but with some notable differences - specifically, the protrusions or 'roots' are much more flexible and 'active'. The roots are indestructible much like the main body of 4944, but seem to be more fluid and organic in nature - they actively move and change to suit whatever they're in to prevent damaging the host. The protrusions actively move around and 'snake' through various micro-tears and gaps within tissues… Each and every single protrusion acts similarly to a worm in soil, constantly feeling the environment for any passageways to crawl through: If a root hits a dead end or can't find a crevasse to continue rooting itself into, it just retracts and attempts to root itself somewhere else… In some cases, 4944 extends itself all the way to the torso area, even forming complex bundles of rooting to enforce it's grip. Eventually enough protrusions grapple the user to form a strong connection… Trying to remove 4944 from a user's hand after this 'bonding' would be the equivalent of trying to remove a limb; It's a part of them at that point."

Addendum 3: SCP-4944
On-site space-time and gravitational anomalies have been established to be directly related to use of SCP-4944. Permission for using SCP-4944 for reality cataloging has been suspended as of 19██-██-██, as gravitational anomalies had resulted in minor space-time damage; damaging portions of facility building and surrounding area. No reported deaths or injuries among site personnel. Further research into the matter was ordered by site director. As SCP-4944 'punctures' space-time to achieve trans-universal travel, surrounding space-time collapses and hems into the created 'hole', mending the damage SCP-4944 had caused; movement and collapse of surrounding space-time results in space-time 'thinning'. Said 'thinning' of space-time results in worsened space-time stability and exponentially severe fluctuations in space-time with prolonged use of SCP-4944 in the same region. Repeated use of SCP-4944 in a region will continue to distort, damage and 'thin' surrounding space-time and can lead to a (YK) universe-ending scenario where space-time can no longer support the mass of the universe, causing a Big Rip.

SCP-4944 has been proven to have access to pocket dimensions as well as realities pertaining to other SCPs. Experiment C-002 was conducted in hopes of finding an alternative means of exploring other realities without the use of Class-D personnel. Request for resumption of reality cataloging was requested by Doctor F. C. Ford. Resumption was permitted by 05-██, 05-██, 05-██, and 05-██. Reality catologing resumed on 19██-██-██. After approximately [REDACTED] months of non-eventful cataloging, SCP-4944 had returned within a sphere of live organic matter twenty (20) meters in diameter. | Rather then using tendons or muscles, organisms in this reality use fluid pressure to move. Organisms lack any nervous systems or complex sensory organs; using only basic sensory pockets of fluids which react when exposed to light, water, or heat. Creatures are arguably slow; the fastest observed creature being able to move only 23 cm an hour. Predatory organisms make up a mere 1.1% of all (recorded) species. Creatures are driven purely by chemical if-then reactions which make for extremely efficient predators and 'prey' organisms. Creatures make use of photosynthesis, basic digestion, absorption, and rooting to obtain nutrients. It is thought that as early plants evolved upon land before other organisms did, a species of polychaete evolved to settle into banks of land which then eventually became locomotive as land plants diversified - eventually becoming predatory through unknown evolutionary circumstances. |

Project Aims: To halt the expansion of the entity known as the great void, whilst further making contact with Foundations from alternate realities willing to support this project.

By aiming tachyon sensors through the gap between trans-universal space and our reality's space created by SCP-4944, we were able to get a reflection of neighboring universes. Our sensors created an image: Upon the black background of trans-universal space, tachyon particles reflected by universes resembled bright points of white, creating a clear image of an angle of trans-universal space.

An imaging project began and after 8 years of angling and imaging trans-universal space, an anomaly was found: Whereas clusters of universes populate trans-universal space in a relatively distributed manner, a large portion of trans-universal space was devoid of any universes. Repeated imaging with higher tachyon concentrated scans confirmed that the section of trans-universal space was devoid of universes, and revealed that this void was in fact, expanding: The anomaly was dubbed 'the great void'.

Main: The great void, at its current rate of expansion, is expected to cause a ZK-class 'end-of-reality' scenario within the next two-trillion (2,000,000,000,000) years. Figures and calculations for the timing of this scenario have been based on accurate imaging of trans-universal space and multiple computer simulations.
The great void poses a threat not only to the Foundation, earth or our universe, but to all of reality as a whole. Under the direct order and supervision of the 05 council, this project was put into place in the aim of neutralizing the threat the great void poses by exploiting SCP-5555's ability to travel to any universe across any distance instantaneously: By continuing to reverse engineer more advanced technologies from other universes, the Foundation can gain enough understanding of the nature of base-reality to conduct meaningful operations in effort to neutralize the great void in any way.
Contact has been made with several Foundations from other realities in the combined effort to neutralize the great void. To ease funding and resource consumption, each foundation has agreed to specialize in differing branches of base-reality, researching and developing in close partnership with other Foundation personnel. Multiple instances of SCP-5555 from other universes/realities are used for ferrying materials, personnel, equipment and information across realities under the agreement of multiple 05 councils.

Laws of physics aren't contained within a universe, but radiate outwards beyond a universe's boundaries: A universe close to another universe with similar or identical laws of physics attract. Universes with similar radiated laws of physics tend to attract one another, merging or forming clusters with similar or identical laws of physics.
Becuase trans-universal space lacks laws of physics beyond isolated anomalies which form universes, nothing can exist. However, entities carry with them the properties of their laws of physics, allowing them to exist in trans universal space, much like a universe: For example, a photon speeding through trans-universal space would continue to speed through it, as it carries with it the properties (Laws of physics) which allowed it to exist in the first place. Thus, the photon would continue to speed through trans-universal space indefinitely…

Laws of physics are anomalies within trans-universal space, and universes are born from these laws of physics: Universes are born as a result of laws of physics, not the other way around. Sometimes the laws of physics can change within a universe, and previous iterations of the universe with old laws of physics remain as extensions of the newly reformed universe.
