An instance of SCP-XXXX growing in the wild, shortly before relocation.

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures:

SCP-XXXX must be kept in a large, dark chamber. It must be fed, misted, and pruned weekly to ensure its survival.

Description:

SCP-XXXX is a species of mushroom initially found in ███████, Washington, United States. It was reported on ██/██/2019 and relocated shortly thereafter. It grows in long, yellowish stalks, with a wide, brown cap. A single instance can grow up to recorded sizes of 3 meters tall and 2 meters in diameter. SCP-XXXX usually sheds spores daily, which can survive up to three days without moisture.

Upon ingesting SCP-XXXX, the consumer (henceforth referred to as Subject) will suddenly state a random, true fact about their surroundings, regardless to whether or not they had previously known it. The statements seem to follow traditional English, regardless of Subject's education or casual speaking conventions. Subject will then fall asleep for approximately 24 hours.

Cooking SCP-XXXX, chopping it up, or combining it with other ingredients does not seem to change the effects.

The following tests have been performed to attempt to discover the effects of SCP-XXXX in greater detail:

Test A - 14/06/19

Subject: D-XXXX
Procedure: Subject was placed in an observation chamber with a table. Upon the table was a locked box containing an egg, and an instance of SCP-XXXX on a plate. Subject was told to eat the mushroom and refrain from interacting with the box.
Results: After ingesting the mushroom, Subject immediately stated, "There is an egg in this box," and promptly fell asleep.
Analysis: Subjects do not need to have previously known the stated fact.

Test B - 21/08/19

Subject: D-XXXX
Procedure: Subject was placed in an identical observation chamber to Test A. Subject was told to eat the mushroom and guess what was inside the box.
Results: After eating SCP-XXXX, Subject relayed, "This table is 80 centimeters tall," and fell asleep. Upon awakening, Subject almost immediately stated he believed the box contained a sock.
Analysis: Subjects are likely unaware of what they say before falling asleep. This could be perfectly natural or it could be due to SCP-XXXX. Subject's intentions likely have little to do with what fact is stated.

Test C - 06/01/20

Subject: D-XXXX
Procedure: Subject was placed in a similar chamber to the previous tests, except the SCP-XXXX specimen had been prepared in a miso soup. Subject was told to drink the soup.
Results: After drinking SCP-XXXX in soup form, Subject stated the bowl was made of ceramic and went to sleep.
Analysis: As long as some form of SCP-XXXX is consumed, the effects will remain unchanged.
