SCP-???? and the hotel bathroom it was discovered in.
Item #: SCP-????
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: The door to room [REDACTED], in which SCP-???? is contained, is to be magnetically locked at all times. Motion sensors have been installed in the room; they trigger a silent alarm that alerts the foundation agents who have been secretly embedded in the hotel staff. Any unauthorized personnel who enter the room are to be arrested by foundation agents and transported to site 43 for processing. Due to the precarious and public positioning of SCP-????, the entire hotel room has been soundproofed and all windows have been covered by drywall. The air vents leading to the room have also been removed and their openings sealed. No rooms on the thirteenth floor of the hotel are to be booked and the elevator panel is altered to prevent anyone from going to that floor. The only way to the thirteenth floor, and to SCP-????, is via the stairwell. The door to the stairwell is also magnetically locked.
Access to SCP-???? is restricted to personnel with class 2 security clearance or higher for authorized testing purposes only. The magnetic locks and motion sensors can be deactivated remotely by site 43 staff. For both monitoring and testing purposes, three CCTV cameras have been installed in the room. In particular, one has been installed to directly observe SCP-???? and the bathroom. When testing SCP-????, it is of the utmost importance that no civilians are alerted, which is partially accomplished by soundproofing and keeping the entire thirteenth floor clear of any civilian activity. All test subjects and foundation staff working with SCP-???? must be totally inconspicuous. Further information on how to achieve that will be provided to those who plan to conduct any tests concerning SCP-????. Once one enters the thirteenth floor and enters room [REDACTED], the magnetic locks will be reengaged behind them by site 43 staff.
Description: SCP-???? is located in room [REDACTED] at the [REDACTED] hotel in [REDACTED]. SCP-???? resembles a seemingly unremarkable shower head for a 2x4.5 hotel shower. The rest of SCP-????'s surroundings also resembles an average hotel bathroom, complete with a vanity, a sink, and a toilet. The hotel room in which that bathroom is located also resembles an average hotel room, complete with everything one might expect. The total size of the hotel room is 280 sq. feet. SCP-???? functions as any normal shower head might and can be effectively used to take a shower. However, SCP-???? is not connected to the hotel's pipe system and the source of its water is unknown.
The remainder of SCP-????'s anomalous attributes do not become clear until a subject attempts to spend the night in room [REDACTED]. When a subject attempts to sleep in the hotel bed, the shower head will begin to slowly drip water, despite not doing so for hours. SCP-???? will continue to drip water at a consistent rate of one drop every two to three seconds. However, the speed of the dripping has been observed to change when [DATA EXPUNGED]. Once SPC-???? begins dripping, it begins to have a psychological effect on the subject attempting to sleep. Subjects will begin tossing and turning, being unable to sleep. As the night progresses, subjects will become paranoid and display an intense fear of the dark. Subjects will often turn on lights throughout the hotel room, but it does not relieve the subject's paranoia. Some subjects will go over to the shower and try to stop the dripping, adjusting the shower handle, but the SCP-???? will continue to drip water. Failed attempts to stop the dripping will usually lead subjects to become frustrated and angry. The subject's paranoia only heightens when they return to bed.
It has been observed that SPC-????'s psychological effects become stronger the longer a subject stays in the hotel room. By night three and four, subjects are totally exhausted and lethargic. When they attempt to sleep, the subject will lay in bed, totally awake and paralyzed by an intense paranoia. Subjects also begin displaying various strange behaviors, including long periods of staring into the bathroom mirror, pacing the length of the hotel room, banging their heads against the wall, and [DATA EXPUNGED]. SCP-????'s effects seem to dissipate once a subject spends the night elsewhere. Over time, a subject will recover from those effects and will often have no recollection of those strange behaviors. Most subjects only remember not sleeping.
Prior to the foundation learning of SPC-????, most subjects who booked the room did not stay past three or four nights. However, on March 3, [REDACTED], a man who stayed in the hotel room for six nights committed suicide by throwing himself out of the hotel window. He was found with various crude carvings in his skin and other wounds that have been concluded to be self-inflicted. This incident brought SCP-???? to the foundation's attention. Testing has discovered that prolonged exposure to SCP-???? results in subjects entering a state of paranoid delusion. The subject totally disassociates with reality. Subjects at this stage have been observed to self-harm, twisting and contorting their wounds and carving unknown symbols into their own skin. Subjects without sharp instruments have been observed to use their nails. Some symbols seem to resemble [DATA EXPUNGED], but researchers cannot yet be conclusive. Subjects will continue to mutilate themselves until they terminate due to blood loss, commit suicide, or are removed from the room; however, the effects of SPC-???? do not dissipate and the psychological damage is permanent. Any subject living through this stage of SCP-????'s effects are constantly paranoid, struggle to sleep, being awakened by night terrors, and struggle to perform basic motor functions. These subjects also refuse to speak or they simply cannot form basic sentences; they only mumble a single word to themselves over and over, "water."
