Hey all, Dr. S here. I'm currently looking for critique on my first work, The Temporal Timepiece. I technically haven't been idea-greenlit yet, but I wanted to reserve my spot early, with all of the work I've currently done on the article. Tips on how to write SCP articles better would be greatly appreciated, and perhaps some ideas on how this SCP could react with other SCPs(also I want to find an SCP who is not bound by the laws of time to mention in the test logs), or dimensions that don't feature planetary orbit(not asking you to do my work for me, just asking you to share examples of the above mentioned things if you can remember them off the top of your head. Thanks, and I hope you find my work at least somewhat interesting.

You will face demotion to Keter class duty effective immediately. An MTF will also be called to your last known position for immediate termination. And don't think you can hide from us, that will only leave you disappointedRemember, we are always watching. Not like we have anything better to do half the time.

SCP-XXXX

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Thaumiel

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a sealed box constructed of layered carbon nanotubes, measuring 8x8x8cm. This box is to be sealed at all times by an electronic lock controlled by a set of 3 fingerprint scanners, coded to the fingerprints of all current members of the 05 Council. To unlock the box containing SCP-XXXX, 3 authentic fingerprint scans must be received simultaneously.

This box is to be kept in a secure vault measuring 10x10x10m, constructed of .5m thick titanium, at Site-██ at all times when the Global Extinction Threat Level is considered minimal. Any unauthorised personnel who gain knowledge of SCP-XXXX are to be administered Class A amnestics and redeployed to another site. Additionally, MTF-███ is to be stationed at Site-██ at all times, with authorisation to terminate any personnel who successfully enter the vault but fail to unlock the box containing SCP-XXXX within two minutes.

Description: SCP-XXXX appears to be a modified CASIO Edifice Module 4334 wristwatch. Rather than listing the multiple different functions of the watch, the backside of SCP-XXXXs face is engraved with the simple lettering ‘TWW Mk.3’.

SCP-XXXX was originally discovered alongside SCP-XXXX-1, a compact informational booklet detailing the functions of SCP-XXXX, in a manner identical in all but actual described functions of the watch to the booklets detailing the proper use of unmodified CASIO Edifice Module 4334 wristwatches. SCP-XXXX-1 also appears to be much larger than the regularly distributed CASIO booklets, though all attempts to count the total number of pages have resulted in assigned personnel believing varying totals to be correct. When counted using Program Alexandria Eternally Bored1(pending proper Foundation classification), the program counted to 4242 before crashing.

The reason behind the inconsistent page count of SCP-XXXX-1 appears to be that its contents are written in every written language known to man at the exact time of reading SCP-XXXX-1, which update constantly as new languages are born and others are forgotten. Additionally, whenever someone first opens SCP-XXXX-1, they will without fail open to the first instructional page written in their most commonly used language. This attribute has been tested with personnel who primarily communicate using French, English, German, Spanish, Arabic, Urdu, Bangla, Japanese, Turkish, etc. For those desiring a full list, see SCP Report XXXX-1-A.

In addition to the anomalous properties of SCP-XXXX-1, it also describes functions of SCP-XXXX not present in non-anomalous CASIO Edifice Module 3443 instructional booklets, namely different functions of the designated A(Top left), B(Middle right) and L(Top right) buttons. These functions involve the pressing of either the A or L buttons combined with holding B for any length of time. SCP-XXXX-1 describes the function of the A button as ‘the ability to create a pocket of space in which time ceases to ebb and flow. The affected area is a cone which can be enlarged by holding down the B button.’ SCP-XXXX-1 describes the function of the L button as ‘the ability to collapse the currently maintained pocket of null time so that a new pocket can be created, which can be returned to normal time either instantaneously or over a period of time determined by holding the B button.’ These functions are described identically no matter which language they are written in.

As per SCP-XXXX-1, pressing and releasing either the A and B or L and B buttons will interrupt or restart the flow of time in a given area. The ‘null time field(as it is named in SCP-XXXX-1)’ has proven to be a cone emanating forwards(relative to the orientation of the watch) from a point in space 25cm above the face of SCP-XXXX, whose size can be manipulated by holding the B button for longer.

Aside from the anomalous functions of SCP-XXXX, the object functions like a regular CASIO Edifice Module 4334 wristwatch, however while a null time field is active the clock functions will freeze as well, until such a time as the null time field is deactivated, at which point the clock will revert to the correct time over the course of 42 minutes. Similarly, SCP-XXXX-1 still describes all the regular functions of a CASIO Edifice Module 4334 wristwatch, with certain exemptions given to those functions which are overridden by the anomalous properties of SCP-XXXX.

Currently, further testing on SCP-XXXXs properties has been deemed impossible, as it is currently in use as the only effective containment procedure for SCP- ████. If this ever changes, it is unlikely that the Foundation will ever have any need for anything ever again.

Test Log

SCP-XXXXs anomalous properties were tested on a D-Class personnel at Site-[Redacted]. Upon releasing buttons A and B, subject and all matter surrounding subject froze, including air molecules and portions of the test cell. All matter caught in the null time field was suspended in space where it was frozen. All matter which subsequently entered the null time field was also frozen in place. Seemingly due to the Earth’s rotation and orbit, unwanted matter quickly entered the null time field, which effectively 'drilled' a hole through the walls of the test cell and the surrounding underground. Experiment was quickly averted and SCP-XXXX was returned to storage. All mass caught in the field originally returned to normal time in the same state that it entered. All mass caught in the field by the drilling effect merged into one superdense object bordering on being 2-dimensional. This object has been classified as SCP-XXXX-2. The D-Class subject retained no recollection of moments spent in the null time field, and appeared to be unharmed from the experience. Class A amnestics were administered to all present personnel below Level 5 Clearance. Test proved validity of SCP-XXXXs anomalous properties, and the danger of those properties when activated
