Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained at all times within a 5m x 5m barred cell in the centre of a 110m cubic exterior cell at site ██████████████. No personnel except authorized test subjects should enter the containment area. Retrieval of incapacitated subjects must be carried out by remote mechanical means only.
Description: SCP-XXXX is an anomalous entity. True origin or form of the entity is currently unknown. The entity appears to have no discernable shape and will appear inexistent until a living creature of higher brain function enters within a 100m range. SCP-XXXX can not be viewed on electronic devices such as thermal imaging or CCTV systems even whilst a creature is within the aforementioned area of influence.
The entity was first discovered in ██████████ following reports of frequent mass suicides. Unfortunately, many of those who at the time worked to contain the entity were hospitalised with severe mental distress, more on this below.
When a creature of higher brain function enters within 100m of SCP-XXXX it has been recorded by witnesses to apparate in a form that will cause the most mental anguish to the subject. Attempts to physically impede or disable SCP-XXXX by ground teams appeared to have no lasting effects, however SCP-XXXX shows no signs of physical aggression. Ground teams on retrieval duties reported seeing SCP-XXXX as dead loved ones, live loved ones in suffering, twisted messes, mutilated corpses and other disturbing imagery.
Exposing multiple subjects to the entity results in contradictory witness statements.
One such experiment involving three D-class Personnel resulted in three entirely different statements of events. All subjects reported an increasing level of anxiety the closer they moved towards the entity. However each individual saw and heard something entirely different. The entity appears to cause mental stresses even when not being viewed directly whilst within it's area of influence suggesting the form it takes is not essential to the cause of symptoms.
Symptoms of exposure to SCP-XXXX vary from mild anxiety to severe depression, panic attacks, seizures and possible suicide. Severity of symptoms appear to be subject to length of time exposed and mental state when exposed.
Addendum: It is believed that SCP-XXXX is an extradimensional entity with a physical anchor point within our own dimension. SCP-XXXX makes no attempts to breach it's containment within our physical space and seems to require no actual nourishment. The entity's motives are wholly unknown and seems only to be driven by the cause and consumption of misery. All attempts to communicate with or discern any higher level of intelligence have thus far been unfruitful.
