SCP-X as seen while in a previous containment cell. Note: At no time should any transparent materials be used in the construction of SCP-x containment cell.
Item #: SCP-X
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-X is to be contained within a 2m x 2m x 1m storage tank made of ultra hard steel alloy. The storage tank is to have a 0.5m diameter pressure sealed hatch on the top side of the containment unit for access to the inside. The storage tank is to be filled completely with a 70% alcohol solution which is to be drained and refilled through a pressure valve with openings no wider than 2cm in diameter on a monthly basis. Ongoing research is attempting to find a replacement liquid for the tank, see test log 03. If the storage tank shows any minor signs of damage then a new tank should be constructed immediately and SCP-X should be transferred to the new unit as soon as possible. Procedures for SCP-x transfer and tank cleaning can be found in documents 01 & 02 respectively.
The room housing SCP-x's storage tank must have all furnishing such as lights and sensor equipment placed on the second floor balcony at least 5m above the floor or directly on the ceiling, all ventilation must be placed on the ceiling and have a mesh covering with holes no larger than 2cm in diameter. The room is to be constructed of reinforced concrete with airlock steel doors. Bottom floor doors should only be operable via non-mechanical controls located on the second floor balcony requiring human facial recognition scan. The only features on the lower portion of the room are four mounts for straps on the floor that attach to SCP-x's storage tank to prevent sliding.
In the case of containment breach, site-86 is to close off all water pipes leading in and out of the facility. Sector D's bio unit is to purge all of its water into a temporary holding tank until it can be confirmed that SCP-x is back in it's storage tank or in the temporary holding tank. While SCP-x is unaccounted for, all restrooms in the bio unit will automatically seal shut until it is accounted for.
Description: SCP-X appears to be a giant moray eel (Gymnothorax javanicus) but has the ability to survive without any apparent respiration. While being in a medium void of a liquid, SCP-x will use rectilinear locomotion much like a snake and can even balance on its tail for a period of at least five minutes. SCP-X possesses a variable length spine which allows it to stretch up to 10m, testing has proved that SCP-x is seemingly unable to stretch further than this without causing significant strain to its own body. While stretching SCP-x also compresses its body to about 4 cm in diameter and yet does not appear to have its bodily functions hampered by this shift in body size. The bite force produced by SCP-x has so far gone unmeasured as it has destroyed all devices used so far to test it.
Evidence of SCP-x was first discovered in a water treatment plant in [REDACTED], where it appeared to have gotten stuck in the filtration system and started to eat its way through the machinery. Just five minutes later it was located in an office building over two miles away. A task force was deployed to the building and found SCP-x [REDACTED] within a pile of [REDACTED] in the fifth floor restroom. Civilians present during the incident were given Class-A amnestics and a cover story of a fire was used for the evacuation. Foundation personnel scrubbed the restroom and then were forced to produce a controlled burn on the fifth floor to assure full removal of trace evidence linked to SCP-x or it's actions.
SCP-x exhibits the ability to immediately determine the shortest path to any given point connected by liquid, the mechanism by which this ability works is the focus of ongoing study. SCP-x commonly uses this ability to locate and enter the plumbing of building in attempts to [REDACTED] those using a toilet or near other water outlets.
