Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be held in a soundproof container at Site-█. Access to the location and information regarding this SCP requires level 4 clearance or higher. All personnel performing tests on SCP-XXXX must wear [REDACTED] to prevent SCP-XXXX’s psychological torture as well as to prevent viewing of the puppet. Personnel are advised to not interact or converse with SCP-XXXX in any way.

In the result of exposure to SCP-XXXX’s appearance, these persons will be dubbed ‘SCP-XXXX-X’ and are to be placed in a soundproof Standard Secure Humanoid Containment Cell and be quarantined for at least 24 hours or until they expire.

Description: SCP-XXXX retains the form of a wooden mongoose marionette, roughly 6 inches from nose to tail, 2 inches in width, and 3 inches in height. Each limb is bound in loose rope yarn and connected to two crossed wooden slabs. The puppet is coated in copper colored acrylic paint that is aged and chipping, however no plans have been made to restore the puppet.

While initially appearing docile and harmless upon discovery, SCP-XXXX later showed restless behavior, mainly sparking after being obtained by the Foundation. Previously thought to be of lower intelligence despite its ability to communicate in proper English, SCP-XXXX soon began showing signs of much higher intelligence, communicating with staff by telepathic means and causing brief psychological distress.

In SCP-XXXX’s [REDACTED] form, the entity appears no different from an actual mongoose. SCP-XXXX takes on this form any time it plans to perform its torture.
D-Class personnel are expected to enact any tests that require direct communication with SCP-XXXX. Two singular D-Class will be reused in these tests until they expire. Despite the many amounts of tests performed, SCP-XXXX’s motives and desires are still not yet determined.

Discovery: SCP-XXXX, who often refers to himself as ‘Gef,’ was discovered in the farmhouse of the ████ family in the 1930s. Before containment by the Foundation, SCP-XXXX received widespread popularity from news companies and paranormal investigators, such as Prof. ████, ████ █████, and ████ ███████ after his persistent haunting of the ████ family. All persons subjected to face-to-face confrontation with SCP-XXXX were later identified as SCP-XXXX-1-6.

After immediate coverup operations ordered by Prof. ███████, the entire situation was perceived by the public eye as a ventriloquist hoax, allowing the Foundation to obtain and secure the anomaly.

Addendum XXXX.1:

Note: Shortly after SCP-XXXX’s containment and inability to obtain much useful information regarding the anomaly, Dr. █████ seeks an interview with one of the initial ████ household’s members for an interview in hopes of documenting more information.

[BEGIN LOG]

Dr. █████: After careful consultation with the Overseer, we have determined that your encounter with SCP-XXXX has been validated. Due to our lacking of information from this anomaly as well as its lack of cooperation, we have decided that one of our final options to gain proper insight before [REDACTED] is instituted is to interview you, █████, more commonly referred to as SCP-XXXX-3. To begin, tell us at the Foundation a bit about you.

SCP-XXXX-3: My name is Voirrey, and I am 19 years old. I first had an encounter with SCP-XXXX when I was 15.

Dr. █████: Tell us about SCP-XXXX.

SCP-XXXX-3: Well, the mongoose first introduced itself to me and my family as Gef. I never once saw it, but I heard it as it telepathically communicated with us.

Dr. █████: What did SCP-XXXX say to you and your family?

SCP-XXXX-3: Gef told us that it was an earthbound spirit in the form of an extra clever mongoose. Along with that, it referred to itself as a freak, with hands and feet, and that if we saw it we’d faint, be petrified, mummified, turned into a stone or a pillar of salt.

Dr. █████: Interesting. Can you elaborate on how SCP-XXXX and your family interacted with one another?

SCP-XXXX-3: Gef never appeared hostile to us, in fact it sometimes helped us. If we ever left the flame on the stove running, it would put the fire out. It would also wake us up if we ever happened to oversleep.
Dr. █████: Noted, we will keep you updated on SCP-XXXX’s containment.

SCP-XXXX-3: Thank you.

[END LOG]

Addendum XXXX.2:

Note: On █/█/46, level 2 researcher Professor Elliot Windsor performed an interview with SCP-XXXX. At this time, SCP-XXXX was still classified as safe, whereas later tests would prove this classification to be incorrect. This interview appears to show the more hostile side of this SCP.

[BEGIN LOG]

Prof. Windsor: Greetings, er… Gef, is it?

The professor is met with silence, however he is aware SCP-XXXX is listening.

Prof. Windsor: (sighs) How about you tell me a bit about the family you were haunting.

SCP-XXXX lifts its head, as if intrigued by the professor’s inquiry.

SCP-XXXX: Ah, yes. Them. I suppose to begin, it’d be wise of me to inform your fickle ‘Foundation’ that I was not ‘haunting’ that family. It’s bold of you people to even assume there was any wrongdoing in my actions. In fact, if anything I was trying to help them!

SCP-XXXX proceeds to let out a feral growl, its eyes narrowing with anger.

SCP-XXXX: But my words aren’t at all important to any of you, are they? You just want the answers that will satisfy your feeble research papers!

Prof. Windsor: No one is accusing you of any wrongdoing.

SCP-XXXX: If I weren’t seen as a threat to your filthy society, why am I being kept here like some sort of prisoner? There are fourteen inches of soundproof barrier between us and the outside, professor. What does your Foundation take me for?

Prof. Windsor: I will be the ones asking the questions from this moment on. Now tell me, what are your intentions?

SCP-XXXX: Why would I disclose something like that with you. I’ve already expressed my distaste for you and everything you stand for- it isn’t a very smart thing to assume I will give answers to your stupid questions!

SCP-XXXX lowers its voice, arching its back as if it feels threatened.

SCP-XXXX: Leave me alone.

Unable to derive further information from SCP-XXXX, Prof. Windsor ends the interview.
