SCP-XXXX "You are a Pirate"

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedure: SCP-XXXX is to be contained within a standard anomalous item locker in Site-96's Euclid wing. No personnel with less than Level 3 Clearance should be allowed to access this locker strictly for testing only. Testing has been suspended indefinitely.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a leather bound book, carbon dating suggests that it dates from around the 17th century during the "Golden Age of Piracy". On it's cover "You are a Pirate" is scribed into the leather. Opening the book reveals nearly all of the pages to be empty in varying states of condition. However, the first page contains a usually non-anomalous sea shanty dating from around the book was made and a picture with memetic properties of a pirate pointing towards the observer, the image seems to move as the observer does constantly pointing at them regardless of where they view the book from, even from video feed. If any personally are infected with the memetic property of SCP-XXXX, they should be administered a dose of Class-C Amnestics. If a boat is stolen there should be an appropriate cover story created and the boat should be returned to its previous owner(s) by the authorities.

The shanty reads:

Farewell an’ adieu to you fair Spanish ladies,
Farewell an’ adieu to you ladies of Spain,
For we’ve received orders for to sail for old England,
An’ hope very shortly to see you again.

We’ll rant an’ we’ll roar, like true British sailors,
We’ll rant an’ we’ll rave across the salt seas,
‘Till we strike soundings in the Channel of Old England,
From Ushant to Scilly is thirty-four leagues.

We hove our ship to, with the wind at sou’west, boys,
We hove our ship to for to take soundings clear.
In fifty-five fathoms with a fine sandy bottom,
We filled our maintops’l, up Channel did steer.

The first land we made was a point called the Deadman,
Next Ramshead off Plymouth, Start, Portland, and Wight.
We sailed then by Beachie, by Fairlee and Dungeyness,
Then bore straight away for the South Foreland Light.

Now the signal was made for the Grand Fleet to anchor,
We clewed up our tops’ls, stuck out tacks and sheets.
We stood by our stoppers, we brailed in our spankers,
And anchored ahead of the noblest of fleets.

Let every man here drink up his full bumper,
Let every man here drink up his full bowl,
And let us be jolly and drown melancholy,
Drink a health to each jovial an’ true-hearted soul.

Note: This shanty, Spanish Ladies, is a non-anomalous song dating back to the early 1600s and it only has these effects when paired with the image.

The memetic contagion contained in this book has 4 stages listed below:

Stage 1: When a person reads this shanty and also views the image they will begin to try and show the book to at a maximum of 30 individuals, usually progressing to the next stage when between 20 and 30 individuals have viewed the shanty and the image, all of these people are designated SCP-XXXX-1.

Stage 2: When the infected group reach the an optimal number, they will seek a large boat that is able to be launched (usually a boat that predates 1750AD) and proceed to attempt to steal the boat with effective organisation tactics and will be successful most of the time.

Stage 3: The group will fashion cutlasses out of parts of the ship or use melee weapons that are already present. They will man cannons only if they are pre-1750AD. The crew will begin to act as 17th-18th century pirates with the initial infected member as the captain, including changing their accent and dialect.

Stage 4: The crew will attack and board any vessel they encounter, taking crew as hostages to the "brig" or executing them. They will take valuables such as jewellery as well as food claiming it as their "booty".

To see the discovery of the book, refer to Incident SCP-XXXX-B.

Incident SCP-XXXX-A: On 10/06/2018 SCP Naval Vessel SCPS Gallant was conducting routine patrol in the North Sea when its port side was struck by a cannonball causing a small hull breach above the water level. SCPS Gallant then returned fire at the boat with its onboard artillery sinking it in minutes. The boat appeared to be the HMS Redbreast, a long lost British naval vessel dating to the 1670s. It is unknown how the book was discovered once again leading to the occurrence of Incident SCP-XXXX-B.

Incident SCP-XXXX-B: On 01/09/2018 MTF Gamma-6 ("Deep Feeders") had stopped the SCPS Guardian at a port near Durness, Scotland for routine maintenance when several SCP-XXXX-1 were discovered on board wielding knives stolen from a supply crate. Agents were quick to neutralise the SCP-XXXX-1 instances and succeeded in capturing the "captain" and SCP-XXXX.
MTF Eta-10 ("See No Evil") were called to the scene when a Gamma-6 agent showed the particular effects of SCP-XXXX after viewing it and SCP-XXXX was brought into permanent containment and the "Captain" was apprehended, see interview log 1.
