Dr. Syzygy log: 0139
As this is the 76th SCP candidate assessed by Dr. Syzygy, for the remainder of this interim document the SCP candidate shall be refered to as C-76.
C-76 appears to be a Caucasian female in her teens to early twenties. To this date C-76 has not produced any sounds vocal or otherwise even when it appears to be talking or doing something that would usually produce a sound, such as moving furniture. This trait is inherited by C-76's hosts.
C-76 is a creature that lives in the virtual environment of reflective surfaces (RS’s). As of now there has been no recorded instance of C-76 having a real form, only a virtual one, which exists solely in the virtual plane of an RS. It appears to move around the environment of an RS similar to how one would move around the real version of the environment. The image of C-76 doesn’t reflect into other RS environments unless C-76 makes contact with the surface of its residing RS from the virtual side, typically appearing as if attempting to either reach or walk out of the RS. When this occurs C-76 fades from its residing RS simultaneously as it fades into view on an RS of its choosing that the previous one was facing. After witnessing this it is apparent that this is how C-76 travels between surfaces. When it enters into a subject’s reflective eyes this way, a small portion of that target’s vision is taken up by c-76, visible to the subject even when the subject closes their eyes and remaining in the same portion of their vision whichever way the subject diverts their vision. C-76 is visible to outside viewers during this invasion, and appears in size relative to the subject's complaints. Slowly over time, (1-10000 hours) C-76 moves around a dome-shaped virtual environment within the target’s vision until it identifies the direction of the subject’s viewing perspective. At which case, subjects complain of C-76 walking closer and closer toward their viewing perspective until eventually taking up the subject’s entire vision. During the apex of this viewing phenomenon subjects react as if being attacked before falling limp. After approximately 3-120 minutes subject will stand back up to an upright position and begin locomotion similar to how C-76's locomotion appeared in virtual environments. After this the subject will usually attempt to find a more suitable target to make eye-contact with and overtake in a similar manner. Any former host will fall to the group and be in a coma for xxx-xxxxx hours. Once C-76 has found a preferable host this way it will carry on its daily life as a human would while appearing as a human.
C-76 was recovered after reportings of a village which went dark, later found to be suffering mass spontaneous comatose. C-76 was recovered inhabiting a woman in her early twenties. All xx of the affected subjects have been taken into foundation custody. Of which x have recovered, been interviewed, and terminated. All RS’s from the site of recovery have also been destroyed. Once transported to site-xx, C-76 was coerced from its recovered host into a containment mirror after xx-days of malnutrition. Former host has been transferred to infirmary xx with the other subjects awaiting recovery.
[Syzygy notes: Variant ideas: 1. Discarded hosts are braindead instead. 2. C-76 uses hosts for other means, such as constantly entering new hosts to leave communities braindead or comatose. Or using the host for SCP reproduction. Or C-76 could reenter a reflection as their host, taking that host away similar to the ending of the movie Sinister.
The primary purpose of this SCP candidate was to deliver the concept of an entity in your vision that is currently unique to the you, and cannot be escaped no matter where you look. Anything past that I'm hoping an SCP writer will "adopt" and flesh out for their enjoyment. I'm currently too busy to see such a project to conclusion but just had to share the general idea. The candidate's appearance is a slight reference to Bloody Mary, which may inspire some ideas.
Test ideas include but are not limited to: Surgically removing infected/invaded eyes before take-over event. Terminating "possessed" subjects. Isolation with reflective machinery, such as cameras which normally have reflective lenses. Testing for possible invasion to subjects through various types of visual electronic displays which are fed by standard-lensed camera. Cross-testing with SCP-093 or SCP-125.
Containment methods would include a matte, non-reflective environment in which C-76 is confined to a small rectangular mirror facing away from the entrance/exit. All personnel strictly forbidden from wearing any reflective equipment above (a certain number of whatever measurement there is.) And all personnel exiting the containment zone must be thoroughly inspected. As well, perhaps a non-reflective method to remotely view C-76 to corroborate such personnel inspections.]
