Item #: ????

Object Class: Euclid
pending reclassification to Safe

Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-???? is to be kept in a reinforced standard humanoid containment cell, and is provided a twin size bed, and a lamp or light capable of being turned on and off independently, along with a small table and chair, no other furnishings are necessary. By request of Dr. Ambler, SCP-???? is also to be provided with a weekly resupply of paper and other art implements as necessary, a list of approved materials can be found in the attached document [???? - Art Log]. The containment cell is to be painted lavender by the request of SCP-????-A. Requests for wall to wall carpeting are currently pending, however, due to frequent risk of staining and tearing, no such modifications are to be made.
A second reinforced chamber, connected to the first by way of a steel door equipped with an automatic emergency locking system, is to be equipped with non-corrosive tile walls and floor for easy cleaning, and is used exclusively for feeding and cleaning of SCP-????-B. All lighting and surveillance requirements enforced on the adjacent room are to be considered unnecessary during feeding. In the event of a containment breach or significant damages to light or camera systems all entrances and exits to the chamber interior are automatically activated and locked down on an eight hour timer.
SCP-???? is to be kept under constant observation by way of four surveillance cameras linked to an adjacent closed-circuit receiving station. The tapes from this video station are to be viewed by relevant personnel on a daily basis before nighttime procedures, any unusual or anomalous activity found on these tapes must be reported to project lead researcher, Dr. Ambler.
SCP-????’s main cell must be equipped with sixteen individually powered LED light units. Each of these lights must be checked monthly, any damaged units must be replaced immediately. The brightness of these lights can be scaled down to moonlight levels for no more than eight hours per night.
SCP-????-A requires regular exercise and a steady, protein-rich diet to prevent muscular atrophy. SCP-????-B requires very little feeding to function, and can survive without directly ingesting water for several months. However, it is recommended that the humidity of any room where SCP-???? is kept be raised to 80% or higher to accommodate SCP-????-B in the event of containment failure. Twice per week SCP-????-B must be allowed to feed on large amounts of red meat.

Description:
SCP-???? is comprised of two separate entities, which alternate depending on how it is being viewed. SCP-????-A is a human female, approximately 13 years of age (at the time of this entry), with green eyes and long brown hair, 1.5 m tall, weighing 43 kg. The girl has been positively identified as Lisa Miller, born May 10, [REDACTED], to Adeline and Luther Miller.
SCP-????-B, previously believed unable to be viewed [See Addendum(????-1)], has been determined to be roughly 1.6 m tall, 54 kg. The voice of the creature suggests it to be female. It is of indeterminate age, and is capable of limited speech. Both entities respond to variations of “Lisa,” though this may simply be the result of the creature vicariously observing itself being called this by friends or family members of SCP-????-A, suggesting it is conscious even when “out of phase.”

The anomalous properties of SCP-???? were first reported July, 18, [REDACTED], following campers reporting a predatory animal in and around Ouachita National Forest, near Lisa’s most recent foster home in LeFlore county, Oklahoma. Local wildlife preservation teams were deployed to contain the animal and prevent further injury. Foundation personnel were notified of the creature’s anomalous properties when a local was incarcerated on kidnapping charges, claiming to have been viciously attacked from behind, sustaining multiple serious injuries consistent with an encounter with SCP-????-B, upon finding SCP-????-A, lost in Ouachita Forest at night. Similar incidents of kidnapping were reported to authorities in all previous foster homes, as far back as the death of Lisa’s birth parents in [REDACTED] (believed due to causes unrelated to SCP-????). Lisa evidently retains knowledge of these events, and is keenly aware of the existence of SCP-????-B, describing it as “my monster” through most of her childhood.
From testing, and several statements from Lisa, it can be theorized that SCP-????-A and B occupy the same time and space, however SCP-????-B only physically exists when SCP-????-A is not being observed, such as during night hours and when visibility is limited. Until a more stable method of observation is tested it should be assumed that twenty-four hour direct observation is necessary. [See Addendum(????-2)]

While it appears that Lisa and the creature share no physical bonds, there may be a mental connection. Both entities have expressed pain from each other’s injuries, and have mirrored each other in emotional and mental stimuli. Similarly they seem to lend energy to one another. If one entity is worked to its physical limits it will begin to take strength and metabolic energy from its counterpart sufficient to complete the task. When induced to alternate, the entity whom energy was taken from will feel the effects of the work done proportional to the amount of energy taken. In this way SCP-????-A, while still physically human, can accomplish feats of strength that would otherwise be impossible for a girl of her size.

Addendum(????-1): By simply obstructing the creature from direct vision, most easily accomplished using bed sheets, or some other opaque, flexible material, the creature can both exist and be observed. Additionally, by the use of four strobe lights placed around the chamber, the creature and Lisa can be induced to alternate at an extreme frequency, which allows humans to briefly capture an after-image of both. However this method is very limiting to both entities, causing them both to experience severe pain. Using a combination of these methods, researchers have been able to directly make contact with the creature and determine many of its features to be roughly human, with the notable exception of rough, dry skin and five long, blade-like claws on each hand, measuring 10 cm in length.

Addendum(????-2): Unlike most sight-based SCPs, camera technology has proven to be effective at keeping SCP-????-B contained, regardless of whether or not anyone is observing the live feed, suggesting that SCP-????-B is unable to exist under the influence of all forms of observation beyond direct sight. It should be stated that animals and other non-sentient creatures are theoretically excluded, and may possibly be capable of observing SCP-????-B, if only for a short time. This may warrant cross experimentation with other SCPs which don’t clearly register as “sentient.”

Addendum(????-3): New developments in the creature’s behavior have necessitated that it be allowed time without direct observation on a more regular basis. To be frank, she has needs just like any human, or any child, and must be allowed to interact with facility personnel. Her social skills seem to be improving steadily as her temperament is becoming more and more docile, she is even making attempts to distinguish herself from Lisa. She has recently requested we call her Liza, a small but progressive step in her personal development. Proper safety measures being put in place, the cameras may be turned off regularly, and are usually only turned on when no one can be present to observe her.
-Dr. Ambler

Note:
It would appear that your simple solution to observe SCP-????-B is a success, Dr. Ambler. I admire your approach to the situation, however, you seem strangely attached to this thing. I would do well to remind you, that no matter how much you try to convince us that it is just a child, I assure you it is not. Any further confusion on this subject will be directed to subject D-825J pending his return to feeding protocol.
I would also like to bring to the attention of your group that giving the girl the power to control her “monster” with bedsheets and a flashlight, while ironic, has had an unintended effect on the behavior of both. Lisa once feared the creature, and that is what made her docile in the eyes of the foundation, though now, she eagerly awaits the night cycle and feeding times as opportunities to understand it through observation of her own. Similarly the creature has taken a sudden curiosity to her drawings of itself laying around the chamber. I don’t know whether to be intrigued or terrified, but I think they’re trying to communicate with each other, and that makes them both dangerous.

Incident report ????-1-28:
Please, under no circumstances, never let SCP-???? near anything even resembling a red liquid again. I nearly had a heart attack, and I think that a D-class crapped in his jumpsuit. Better yet, never give her paint, or anything that could be used as a concealer. Oh God I hope she never tries to wear makeup.

On another note, we now know that she does not have to be fully concealed for her anomalous traits to take effect. Food for thought.

Incident report ????-2-28:
Just before a scheduled blackout event, SCP-????-A positioned herself in front of the full length mirror, holding the camera. At the moment of blackout, a flash from the camera alternated SCP-????-A/B. The flash startled SCP-????-B into a fit, allerting research staff. In the aftermath, SCP-????-A revealed the resulting photograph, picturing both SCP-???? instances at once, faintly. The image has since been the source of much study. SCP-????-A was rewarded for her ingenuity.

Incident report ????-3-28: At precisely 7:24 AM Dr. Stephen Ambler entered SCP-???? containment unit, and proceeded to manually dismantle all cameras. The chamber security protocols activate in response and magnetically seal the chamber doors. At this time all contact, visual or otherwise, was lost with the chamber’s interior, as well as Dr. Ambler. All remains quiet until 3:01 PM, chamber doors open and Dr. Ambler exits unscathed, blindfolded, followed by SCP-????-A. The interior of the chamber suggests a minor struggle, but the only major damage was to lighting systems. Repair requests were made immediately.

Dr. Ambler Incident 3-28 report transcript: The following is a written transcript of a conversation between Doctors Ambler and Walker pending an investigation of incident 3-28. A portion of the text has been removed by authorization of O5-[REDACTED].
_
Dr. Ambler: I just want everyone to understand. For the record, I’m not crazy, I’m not obsessed.

Dr. Walker: Doctor, can you please tell us why you attempted to break containment?

Dr. Ambler: [INAUDIBLE]

Dr. Walker: I’m sorry?

Dr. Ambler: …nothing… It’s nothing… I didn’t break containment, I didn’t even try…that’s not what I… wanted.

Dr. Walker: Dr. Ambler… Stephen, if there is anything you can tell me about what went on between seven and three o’clock that is relevant to…

Dr. Ambler: …testimony…

Dr. Walker: Stephen?

Dr. Ambler: She needed… I wanted… testimony, explanation. Not one person… not one person, don’t you see?

Dr. Walker: See…What?

Dr. Ambler: Not one, not even the O5 council… No one really knows what the hell is going on. I had a hunch, a theory, and all I needed was her testimony to prove it.

Dr. Walker: …and, just what was their…testimony?

Dr. Ambler: … … Complicated… very… complicated… Not quite what I expected. It was just a theory at first, I could never have known… never have known…

Dr. Walker: Known what… Stephen?

Dr. Ambler: [INAUDIBLE]… I’m spooked Michael, this is bigger than you or me, you wouldn’t believe even if you heard what I heard.

Dr. Walker: …Show me.

The following document is a written transcript of a controlled interaction between SCP-???? and SCP-173.
Due to SCP-????-A’s generally more docile behavior the test will be held in SCP-173’s containment unit. The two entities will face one another, all visual contact with the chamber interior will be severed and all chamber lights will be deactivated for thirty seconds.
_
Testing Record:
SCP-????-A entered SCP-173’s containment area, accompanied by a detail of four D-class personnel, D-821, D-596, D-4235, and D-1995. D-821 and D-596 instructed to maintain eye contact with SCP-173, D-4235 and D-1995 instructed to maintain eye contact with SCP-????-A. All personnel involved instructed to signal when blinking. SCP-????-A maintains eye contact with SCP-173 for 20 seconds before all lights in the chamber are extinguished. Several seconds go by without incident, the only sound from the chamber interior is that of SCP-173. After ten seconds a loud, guttural noise emanates from the chamber, evidently from SCP-????-B, and what sounds to be a struggle ensues. Audio suggests that SCP-????-B managed to toss SCP-173 across the chamber multiple times before the lights re-engaged. Upon regaining visual contact from research staff, SCP-173 resumed it’s inanimate state, but due to awkward positioning at the time of visual contact, fell forwards atop SCP-????-A. D-class were immediately sent back into the chamber to control the situation. While freeing SCP-????-A, D-821 and D-596 broke eye contact with SCP-173, D-821 is killed instantly. In the chaos, contact is broken again, allowing SCP-173 to make several more advances, but without casualties. SCP-????-A takes a defensive stance, and manages to blindly stop SCP-173 with both hands, and contact is re-established. SCP-????-A then plants both feet and raises 173 over her head, before lobbing it five meters away. All three remaining D-class exit the chamber with SCP-????-A carrying the remains of D-821.

It is interesting to note that SCP-???? was able to detect the motion of SCP-173 without maintaining contact with the object. Equally intriguing is the fact that 173 hesitated before attempting a kill. It could be theorized that since SCP-????-B is capable of registering events which happened while it was out of phase, it may have a “sight” of its own, separate from Lisa. On the same token, the creature’s sight doesn’t interfere with SCP-????-A’s anomalous properties, so it may not register 173’s abilities in the same way. Essentially, the creature may be half-seeing 173 at all times, making 173 only half as effective.
