Item #: SCP-XXXX-J
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX-J is to be kept in its case at all times other than testing purposes. The case is to be kept in Dr. ██████'s office.
Description: SCP-XXXX-J is a pair of of airpods by the █████ company. The writing "Deafpods, by [ILLEGIBLE]" can be seen on the side. When one puts on SCP-XXXX-J, they will begin to play the subject's favorite music. The subject also notes that no other sound can be heard when SCP-XXXX-J is being worn. After 30 minutes of wearing SCP-XXXX-J, the subject will get into a fatal accident involving sound that they couldn't hear. Such as a truck coming their way. People around the subject will attempt to warn the subject of the impending danger to no avail. People will never act on the impulse to save them, research is ongoing if this is memetic or not.
Addendum XXXX-J.1: Testing log
This is to see if we can counteract XXXX-J's effect of not being able to help the subject.
Subject: D-9634
Procedure: D-9634 was given SCP-XXXX-J to listen to for 30 minutes before being led outside and told he was being let free for good behavior.
Results: After looking both ways before crossing a street, a truck materialized in the road near D-9634. Despite people's attempts to warn the subject, he couldn't hear them due to the Deafpods. Despite everyone telling the personnel to help the D-Class, they physically couldn't move.
Subject: D-2316
Procedure: D-2316 was given SCP-XXXX-J to listen to for 30 minutes before being led outside and told he was being let free for good behavior. However, two additional D-Class, D-3127 and D-4473, were led outside and told of SCP-XXXX-J's true nature. They were told to save D-2316 from the truck if they wanted to be let free.
Results: After looking both ways, D-2316 tried to cross the street. Same as last test, a truck materialized near the subject. The D-Class started to run towards D-2316, but when they reached 4 meters away from D-2316, they stopped moving and started to yell that the truck was coming.
Maybe they aren't saving him because they're D-Class. They don't really care if they die or not. What if we put someone people care about in danger? -Dr. ████
Subject: A 3 year old baby.
Procedure: SCP-XXXX-J was given to the baby and taped to his ears so he couldn't get them out. After 30 minutes, he was let loose in a playground.
Results: The playground's framing was creaking a lot, hinting it was going to give way. Despite people screaming at the baby to get off, he couldn't hear them due to the deafpods.
That didn't work either! This is getting annoying! What about a researcher? The foundation cares about them. Dr. ████
Subject: Dr. R██████
Procedure: Dr. R██████, who doesn't know of SCP-XXXX-J's properties, is given SCP-XXXX-J to listen to as a gift by Dr. ████
Results: After 30 minutes of doing paperwork, SCP-████ breached containment, sounding the sirens. Dr. R██████ didn't hear it and was killed by SCP-████
What if we put them in a room where it's impossible to die? -Dr. ████
Note: Before Dr. ████ was able to pull off this test, the coworkers of Dr. R██████ tied Dr. ████ up and made him put on SCP-XXXX-J.
Subject: Dr. ████
Procedure: Dr. ████ was tied to a chair and forced to wear SCP-XXXX-J.
Results: After an hour, Dr. ████ was found dead in the chair. Autopsy revealed a heart attack. It is unknown if this is connected to SCP-XXXX-J or not.
