Item #: SCP-
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: Due to the random movement and the conditions required for it to manifest, permanent containment of SCP- is impossible. Everything within a twenty-five (25) metre proximity of SCP- is to be acquired and a containment team is to be assigned to the site. Any residential or commercial property within the site are to be acquired and closed under the reason of a potentially lethal gas leak and traffic should be redirected where needed. Trespassers are to be given Class-A amnestics before being escorted away from the site, however, lethal force is allowed if they continue to resist.
During a relocation event, Mobile Task Force Theta-8 ("Checker Chasers") are to be called in at least two months after the disappearance of SCP-4895 to search for and acquire the surrounding area of SCP-4895.
Revision 12/11/1967
Following the relocation event resulting from Experiment Log—B-2, all further testing of SCP-4895 has been placed on halt as to prevent any further relocation events.
Description: SCP- is a footpath made up of 0.2x0.2x0.05m tiles of an unknown metal in a faded yellow and red checker board pattern. Testing has revealed that the path is approximately 257 years old however this age does not appear to have ever changed. The tiles that make up SCP- appear to be immeasurably dense according to all available methods of measurement making it impossible to remove any of the tiles.
SCP- manifests in dark areas that are surrounded by trees, often in the vicinity of pre-existing footpaths or roads. As of 9/28/191968, SCP- instances have been sighted in alleyways around small shops, as well as situated near children's playground equipment. All individuals that are familiar with the area that SCP- has manifested claim that it has always been there and will try to disprove all evidence that shows otherwise.
SCP-'s effects can be seen when someone who suffers from poor mental health hereby referred to as SCP1 come within a twelve (12) metre radius of the beginning of SCP-. SCP1 will then disregard anything they were previously doing and instead will decide to follow the path on the premise that whatever is at the end will help to solve their problems. SCP—1 will attempt to follow the path for as long as they are physically able to before expiring, usually because of dehydration, starvation or exhaustion. Those who do not come under the influence of SCP- will take little notice of SCP- and are reluctant to enter even if their own life is at risk.
SCP- appears to stretch on for an indefinite distance and may sometimes branch off into multiple paths. SCP- is surrounded by a forest of trees similar to those that surrounded the entrance. No living creatures have been sighted within SCP-, however, corpses which are presumed to have belonged to previous SCP—1 instances have been scattered around the forest.
If all living SCP—1 instances within SCP- expire then a relocation event will occur. SCP- will suddenly vanish and the area it was located in will return to how it was before the manifestation of SCP-. Within 2-3 months of the disappearance of SCP- it will manifest somewhere within a ten (10) kilometre radius of its previous location.
Discovery Log—A
On ██/██/1967 the Foundation was alerted to the presence of SCP-4895 when embedded agents in the ██████, ██████ Police Department were investigating reports of multiple missing people who had last been seen walking down similar footpaths. The area was secured by Mobile Task Force Theta-8 (“Checker Chasers”) and Site- was established.
Experiment LogB-1
Date of Experiment: 11/29/1967
Subject: D1, Male, Age 19, No mental health issues on record.
Aim: To attempt to measure the length of SCP-.
Procedure: D1 is equipped with a handheld radio, GPS tracker and three (3) days worth of food and water.
Results: D1 walks through SCP- for two (2) days without finding any end. D1 is told to attempt to return to the entrance. D1 returns three (3) days later due to D1 having to retrace their steps while also rationing their remaining food and water. GPS tracker indicated that D1 went through an area which was occupied by housing and not the forest that D—1 was in.
Notes: It appears that if SCP- does have a definite length that it would require far more resources and time to investigate. – Dr ██████
Experiment LogB-2
Date of Experiment: 12/10/1967
Subjects: D2-A, Male, Age 26, Records indicate poor mental health. D2-B, Female, Age 37, Recorded as suffering from depression.
Aim: To see the effects of SCP- when inhabited by a subject as well as someone who has normal mental health.
Procedure: Both D2-A and D2-B are equipped with a handheld radio, GPS tracker and one (1) week worth of food and water.
Results: D2-A is brought under the effects of SCP- while D2-B remains unaffected. D2-B is instructed to follow and report what D2-A does. D2-B reports that D2-A doesn't want to talk as "he wants to focus on trying to find the cure to his problems." One (1) week later both D2-A and D2-B are low on supplies and D2-B stops to take a rest. Five (5) hours later D2-A is presumed to have expired and a relocation event occurs. Radio and GPS signal of D2-B is lost at the same time as D2-A.
Notes: It appears that a relocation event will occur even if living beings besides any SCP1 instances are inhabiting SCP-. – Dr ██████
