An image of the original "Midnight Sax Man" saxophone that SCP-XXXX is based off of.
Item #: SCP-XXXX-J
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX-J is to be kept propped up on a stand in its container, a 3ft (91.44cm) tall 2ftx2ft (60.96cmx60.96cm) glass box raised on a 1ft (30.48cm) high concrete base at all times when not in use. A spotlight focuses down on the container; the bulb for it goes out once every week1, so regular replacements are required, which may also include polishing SCP-XXXX-J from time to time. Nearby personnel are to be informed about the use of SCP-XXXX-J beforehand, so that they can plan accordingly. Due to unforeseen and potentially life-threatening risks, permission from no less than 2 Class-3 Personnel must be acquired before any type of "testing" is permitted on SCP-XXXX-J.
Description: SCP-XXXX-J is an almost exact replica of the "Midnight Sax Man" Saxophone, handpainted by Julie Borden and featured on the website juleez.com. The object fits the general height and dimension requirements for an alto saxophone.
SCP-XXXX-J shows no anomalous effects when being handled at least 1 ft. away from the subject (herein referred to as the "Handler")'s head. When brought close enough to the mouth, however, the reed of the saxophone is immediately forced into the Handler's mouth, and the Handler plays the beginning Sax solo featured in the song "Run Away With Me", from the album E.MO.TION by Carly Rae Jepsen. As soon as the last note of the solo finishes, all anomalous effects cease until the SCP is brought back into effective range after at least 30 seconds. The performance will take place no matter how inept the Handler is at playing on saxophones of any type; even subjects who have never touched a saxophone in their lives have been shown to play the solo as it sounds in the official audio.
It should be noted that, when SCP-XXXX-J is recorded in its Active state, all footage of the performance is shown to be heavily tampered with and distorted. Distortions include, but are not limited to:
- Video footage changing drastically in color, shifting from hue to hue.
- Prominent scan lines showing on footage.
- Video seemingly zooming in and out on the Handler playing the instrument, at random intervals- this happens even if the recorder did not and was not shown to physically zoom in the recording device.
- Random text being displayed in either the top-right, bottom-left, or bottom-right corners of the footage.
SCP-XXXX-J was secured when an undercover agent noticed that a rumor concerning it was being spread across their assigned city of █████████, Germany. Reports of a saxophone that made you play the opening of the infamous song no matter what went viral, and the object was being shown off in a courtyard. One citizen attempted to play SCP-XXXX-J before it reset itself by violently blowing into it, causing it to [DATA EXPUNGED]. Mobile Task Forces Eta-11 ("Savage Beasts") and Gamma-5 ("Red Herrings") were immediately sent to the location to retrieve the instrument and administer Class-A amnesiacs to every witness on the scene. An effort is currently being made to find and destroy all media concerning SCP-XXXX-J that has made its way onto social media platforms and other locations across the internet.
