The Old Wars, World War One. This was the one my father told me when I was young, when I wasn’t in the foundation. He stood in the field, crying. He told me things I didn’t remember, maybe I blocked it out. I remember one of his stories though, something I’d rather remember.
An Old Story
The battlefield filled with blood, the moon rising at Midnight, tone. The place where we, the men of blood and sadness, don’t belong. We don’t deserve the light, we deserve to fight in this endless and horrible nightmare inducing war, that we call World War I. We soldiers stand on the field, aim our rifles, and shoot. What else was there to do? Sadness was the only thing we knew, Sadness, and blood. We know it still, the things we see sometimes, if only we could leave them behind and forget. I wished that, but I adapt. We all adapt, we’re human kind, in the future there will be flying cars, fun, and no death. I hope we both survive until then, Son.
He was wrong, so wrong.
