Item #: SCP-4191

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4191 is to be kept in standard containment locker sealed within a metallic box to prevent accidental observation.

Description: SCP-4191 is a black circle which has been hand drawn in the centre of a blank white sheet of A4 paper. Observers of SCP-4191 will go through 4 stages of exposure which commonly results in the expiration of the subject at the conclusion of Stage 4.

Stage 1
Stage one begins with the subject initially viewing SCP-4191. After initial observation the subject will be physically unable to break line of sight with SCP-4191. The subject is fully aware and conscious of the affects of SCP-4191 and commonly shows signs of panic and distress. If line of sight is broken by an external stimulus then the subject rapidly shows a change in behaviour. The subject shows signs of relaxation and tranquility and enters a catatonic state. All attempts to awaken catatonic subjects have failed.

Stage 2
Subjects at seemingly random intervals compliment the design and structure of SCP-4191. Subjects commonly express great distress of their involuntary actions and regularly ask to stop testing.

Stage 3
Subjects speech becomes slurred and unintelligible. Subjects attempt to move away from SCP-4191 although the subjects arms attempt to grasp SCP-4191.

Stage 4
Subjects move closer in proximity to SCP-4191 attempting to examine SCP-4191. Subjects attempt to replicate SCP-4191 on any available surface excluding SCP-4191 with any available drawing/writing utensils. Line of sight with SCP-4191 is then able to be broken with no further affects. If no suitable writing utensils are provided subjects will either attempt to re-create SCP-4191 by scraping on surfaces with teeth or finger nails, or excrete bodily fluids to use as paint/ink. If the subject believes they have re-created SCP-4191 the subject reverts to a state before observing SCP-4191 and will not be affected by any future observations of SCP-4191. All re-creations of SCP-4191 are determined to be non anomalous.

If re-creation of SCP-4191 after 5 minutes is unsuccessful then subjects show signs of rapid behaviour changes which cumulate in attempted suicide attempts. 50% of Stage 4 subjects will attempt to inscribe or urinate: "Perfection lies, it lies, I lie" before continuing to commit suicide through blunt force trauma usually to the head. All subjects who have been prevented from committing suicide have revealed no information regarding SCP-4191 and subjects have continually attempted to commit suicide in captivity.
