Special Containment Procedures: Instances of SCP-4317 are to be visually obscured using an opaque head covering at all times until instances of SCP-4317-A can be fully subdued, moved to a secluded area, and relieved of their hair by any means necessary, preferably by an electric razor. The now former host will be given class B amnestics and will receive a backstory of a drunken or young and foolish decision for a "fresh start."
Should instances of SCP-4317-B begin to appear, foundation personnel will detonate the appropriate low-yield warhead.
Foundation personnel are to be stationed in towns known to produce instances of SCP-4317, posing as barbers, security guards, and if necessary, "prank" YouTube personalities. At least two foundation personnel are to be stationed in or near every barber shop that has previously generated an instance of SCP-4317. All foundation personnel with a fashion index of 2 or more are restricted from non-barber assignment to this SCP, and all foundation personnel with a fashion index of 5 or less are restricted from barber assignments to this SCP.
Research into possible avenues of actual containment is ongoing.
Description: SCP-4317 is a number of anomalous haircuts received from various non-anomalous low-budget barber shops along the Gulf Coast of the United States, particularly within select towns in Louisiana and Texas. Instances of SCP-4317 appear seemingly randomly and somewhat rarely, but there is some evidence to show that the geographical area of spontaneous generation is growing.
Generation of SCP-4317 instances will begin normally. Barbers will behave as usual until the final third of the haircut, when conversations and pleasantries will abruptly cease. The barber will begin standing in front of the client (as opposed to behind, which is common practice), attempting to "line up" the haircut for minutes on end. Limited Foundation observations where a generation event was detected early-on clocked this "lining-up" portion of the haircut from 10-20 minutes, with one event lasting for over an hour and forty minutes.
Once the client becomes agitated or the barber has given up, the barber will begin clean-up procedures as normal, but will not offer to show the client any form of a mirror to check their work. The client will be asked to pay, but in some instances will not be confronted if they refuse.
Upon leaving the barber shop, the client becomes SCP-4317-A, and SCP-4317's anomalous effects begin to occur. Should any secondary person view the instance of SCP-4317 for longer than 10 seconds, this person also becomes an instance of SCP-4317-A, and a new, identical instance of SCP-4317 will begin to form on their person.
If more than 100 instances of SCP-4317-A are created within a 100-square meter area, SCP-4317's secondary effects will manifest. Standers-by will no longer be converted to new instances of SCP-4317-A, but will instead take an interest in the haircut, treating it as a new style, and will become instances of SCP-4317-B. Instances of SCB-4317-B will stop all duties, responsibilities, and normal everyday parts of life, including sleep, eating, and socializing, in favor of finding and using the nearest cutting implement and fashioning on their own heads (or into their own scalps if the required hair length is not present) haggard but active copies of SCP-4317, and will then begin performing the same action on as many people as they can find, turning them into new instances of SCP-4317-B. At no point will instances of SCP-4317-B return to normal life, even when no one else is available to convert, nor when treated with class D amnestics; they are to be treated as beyond saving.
At this point, due both vectors if SCP-4317-B generation, the wavefront of new SCP-4317-B instances steadily approaches a speed of 100mph. Unless properly and immediately contained, this will result in an IK-class collapse-of-global-civilization scenario, and must be stopped before reaching neighboring towns. Preferably, every effort must be taken to ensure instances of SCP-4317-A are subdued and removed from public areas quickly and efficiently before instances of SCP-4317-B ever form again.
