Dr.Yornel

The darkness pressed around, cold on the skin and silent save for the buzz of insects. Recovery missions were one thing, but grab-and-go missions were a trip into hellishly unknown territory. Every once in awhile, something odd would come down the pipe, some tidbit would stand out in the dossier about how to handle things. Little descriptors were an amazing appeal. This object is "sentient" that one "keter". A personal favorite was "Don't look directly at it" another was "Don't look away from it". The one common thread was, you knew exactly what you were dealing with. Shoot less, shoot more, shoot until it no longer poses an immediate threat.
And then there were the ones that scared the piss out of anyone: "Unknown". No small comfort to be had with gun or grenade, no idea if getting close got you killed or blinking was a life or death decision. You came into it with no planning, no exit should it all go south. The only thing you had was the Foundation issued "Plan S" that was there for what they deemed "emergency termination of life signs should we be captured or incapacitated". Everyone on the pinch hit squads knew exactly what that little pill was for. Not one of the pinch hit squads wanted to prove their knowledge either, but unknown grabs were a test of faith sometimes.

The dossier came down and we were airborne in less then an hr. The dossier read it's horrifying tale like a lackluster book. "Object is at this time an unknown anomalous item located in to be filled in. Properties reported to be at this time limited immunity to small arms fire with a further anomalous symbiotic relationship to beings on site." The Chaos Insurgency wasn't going to put the item down nicely, they fought tooth and nail for their toys to stay their toys.
