Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: pending further review

Special Containment Procedures: pending further review

Description: SCP-XXXX is a microscopic parasitic nanobot measuring less than a micron in length and carrying similar characteristics to viral meningitis. SCP-XXXX was originally believed to be a living organism, however investigation by the Foundation discovered SCP-XXXX to be made of inorganic elements and possessing electrical activity. SCP-XXXX was originally designed by Prometheus Labs, Inc. for a rogue client desiring to prevent the destruction of the earth by human life. Due to the abiotic nature of SCP-XXXX, the disease is incurable after infection.

SCP-XXXX is primarily transmitted through reproductive vectors and blood, remaining undetectable by current non-anomalous medical standards. While SCP-XXXX can infect vertebrates other than humans, the survival rate of SCP-XXXX is best in the homo sapiens species. The observed survival rate of SCP-XXXX in human populations is around 80% post-infection, with organisms infected at a young age more susceptible.

Infected populations typically do not develop noticeable symptoms for many years. The slow reproduction rate of SCP-XXXX and the brain's ability of neurogenesis effectively hide the presence of SCP-XXXX. In all cases of infection, the accumulating disruptive and destructive effects of SCP-XXXX on the brain outdo it's ability to repair damaged tissue. SCP-XXXX was originally designed by a rogue group, From this point on, there is a measurable loss of cognitive ability and memory.

Post-infection, SCP-XXXX travels through the bloodstream and is able to pass through the semipermeable blood-brain barrier due to it's inorganic properties and small size. Once SCP-XXXX enters the brain, SCP-XXXX quickly travels through synapses and propagates in brain cells. In doing this, SCP-XXXX disrupts normal signals traveling throughout the brain, being extremely invasive. "Organic" metals such as magnesium, calcium and sodium present in the brain are stolen by SCP-XXXX to support it's metabolism and reproduction.

SCP-XXXX's interference with biological processes results in many symptoms that vary in intensity between cases. SCP-XXXX is extremely hard to detect in younger populations due to the minute amount of the parasite present in the infected. The symptoms of SCP-XXXX accumulate at a steady rate after infection and are typically noticeable after 40-50 years. The majority of cases result in death before 70 years post-infection.

The most prominent symptoms of SCP-XXXX are cognitive decline and degradation of memory. This is due to SCP-XXXX's blockade of normal processes in the brain. [todo - symptoms]

Communication between SCP-XXXX instances throughout the brain of an infected person allow for unified actions to be performed. Through unknown mechanisms, communication of signals into SCP-XXXX instances in the brain has been observed. These signals are rare and often not strong enough to result in major changes in most cases as SCP-XXXX instances are not prominent at younger ages. Regardless, this ability poses an imminent threat as this ability grants SCP-XXXX varying control over the internal and external actions of infected persons.

Investigation of SCP-XXXX samples revealed a small, imprinted Prometheus Labs, Inc. logo on the top-right exterior side of multiple nanobots. Inquiries were sent to Prometheus Labs as to the function, purpose and mechanisms of SCP-XXXX. Despite the need for information, Prometheus Labs informed the Foundation that SCP-XXXX was created to "keep the natural peace" in the world and that clientele remained confidential.
