A fragment of SCP-4271-A

Item #: SCP-4271

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: Any and all information pertaining to excavations at SCP-4271’s site of discovery are to be suppressed from the public and operations at said coordinates must be managed by personnel of Level 2 or above. Doctor ██████ will helm the analyses of the fragments of SCP-4271-B, SCP-4271-C, and SCP-4271-D at the excavation site, while samples of SCP-4271-A are to be transported to Area-12 and Site-76 within the span of 18 days.

Transportation of SCP-4271 must be handled with moderate to severe caution. Absolutely no contact with skin, nor intense inhalement must be made with SCP-4271. As such, when handling SCP-4271 outside of their normal containment, personnel must wear standard issue respirators with a filter rating of no less than R99 and latex gloves.

Fragments of SCP-4271 are to be contained in a 13 x 26 x 13 cm case laced with Tetrabromobisphenol A.

Description: SCP-4271 is a collection of four distinct pieces of broken pottery found on an island off the western coast of Ireland, closest to the town of ███████████ in ██████ ████. SCP-4271’s coloration is that of a deep faded green, but it’s molecular makeup has yet to be unidentified. Fragments of SCP-4271 size to 2.3 cm in thickness.

The exact dimensions of SCP-4271 are difficult to identify upon inspection. However, through digital reconstruction, SCP-4271-A has confirmed dimensions of 0.12 x 0.12 x 0.42 meters and an estimated volume of approximately 5 litres. The rest of SCP-4271 is awaiting reconstruction.

Through reconstruction, it has also been revealed that the Old Irish word nathair, meaning “snake”, was written into the surface of SCP-4271-A. According to Doctor ██████, this dates SCP-4271-A from c. 500 CE to c. 800 CE.

SCP-4271 is constantly covered in a toxic salivic compound. The source of this compound is unknown. Organisms that come into contact with SCP-4271, either via touch or intense inhalement near it, first experience a sense of dizziness and a lack of focus after a minute of contact. Subjects then experience a straining of vein and artery walls, sometimes leading into a hemorrhagic stroke within 3 minutes of contact. Finally, subjects face extreme palpitations in the cardiac muscles after nearly 7 minutes. Subjects have died from either major internal bleeding, strokes, heart attacks, or cardiac arrest.

Log of Event 4271-682-A: The toxic compound from SCP-4271 was tested on SCP-682. Tests showed negative results, as SCP-682 recovered from its injuries within the span of 15 minutes after the hemorrhaging.

0200: Contact is made. SCP-682 shows no sign of weariness.

0202: SCP-682 begins to lose focus. Speech is slurred and movement is dramatically slower than usual.

0207: SCP-682 begins to cough up blood and shows signs of an aneurysm of the carotid arteries. SCP-682 falls unconscious.

0223: SCP-682 returns to consciousness, growling and uttering obscenities at any personnel seen.
