Item #: SCP-5044

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: Physical interaction with SCP-5044 is allowed if validated by no less than two (2) level 3 researchers. Any such interactions must be constantly monitored to ensure the safety of SCP-5044. If it any point SCP-5044, all visiting personnel are to be immediately vacated and the cell door to be locked. If the colony does not settle and begins the secretion of SCP-5044-1, a beach ball worth of Fern moss is to be fed to the colony.

SCP-5044 is to be contained in a 4m x 4m x 2.5m stainless steel room with an environment similar to that of a shaded forest. A 5mm thick layer of moss is to bed the entire room's flooring, excluding any water features present in said room. A mesh of Cushion and Fern moss has shown to be the preferred choice of the colony, while not required, such a request should be followed if possible to ensure maximum satisfaction with SCP-5044. A pond 0.5m x 0.5m by 0.3m is to be located anywhere within the containment cell, deep enough to fully submerge SCP-5044. Air vents are to be lined with small bags of potting soil to maintain an earthly aroma. Speakers are to broadcast the sounds of trickling water on stone twenty-four (24) hours a day. A single light fixture of 8k - 10k Kelvins is to be placed on the ceiling of the cell, the temperature of the light is to be changed based on the time of day. Upon reaching late afternoon, the lights are to be slowly dimmed to imitate a setting sun, the entire process should effectively demonstrate a fully synthesized night cycle. If the colony is to become agitated and excrete acid towards any feature, a beach ball worth of Fern moss is to be fed to the colony.

Description: SCP-5044 is a colony of thirteen (13) grass-like creatures demonstrating tranquility and peaceful behavior in proper environments. When located in unnatural, or metallic structures they show intense distress, instigating the secretion of a highly corrosive substance (labeled SCP-5044-1) until the colony is placed back into proper containment, or becomes malnutritious. While appearing to be a small bundle of grass, SCP-5044 deceives subjects, as each blade of grass is a thin needle capable of piercing human skin with ease. A very thin layer of SCP-5044-1 covers each needle, proving extraction of said needles to be incredibly strenuous. If SCP-5044 is to become agitated for any reason, the colony will begin hurling SCP-5044-1 towards their surroundings in an attempt to breach and return to a more "suitable" environment. The aforementioned thirteen (13) renditions are labeled from SCP-5044-A through SCP-5044-M.

After the conducted autopsy on SCP-5044 (see addendum), it has been concluded that the creature has two (2) sunken eyes towards the front/underside of the body. Furthermore, the creature has a nose directly beneath the eyes, and an incredibly small mouth, capable of expanding four (4) times the size to excrete SCP-5044-1.

While SCP-5044 does appear to be hostile often, the colony can be tranquil while properly contained. While in their tranquil state, subjects report feelings of intense peacefulness, reporting feeling care-free. SCP-5044 may unfurl and dehydrate their spines, at first this was thought of as a hunting tactic. However, it has been confirmed that the entirety of the colony is a herbivore.

Addendum #44-A
Experiment held by the following researchers: Dr. Akra and Dr. Hughes
Conducted with intent to find missing information of SCP-5044

Addendum #44-B
Experiment held by the following researchers: Dr. Akra and Dr. Hughes
Conducted with intent to find missing information of SCP-5044

Experiment conducted on both SCP-5044-A and D-0961

[Begin Log]

Dr. Akra: Please approach SCP-5044-A.

D-0961 does as instructed.

Dr. Hughes: Run your hand through the grass before you.

D-0961 does so with no repercussions, he is brought back to his cell and both Dr. Akra and Dr. Hughes proceed to interact with the tranquil SCP-5044-A

Dr. Akra: The underbelly of SCP-5044-A has very dry, dark green skin with signs of wear and damage. Write this down, please.

Dr. Hughes writes notes profusely.

Dr. Akra: It appears there is a face here, two sunken eyes, a nose similar to that of a snake and a tiny mouth.

SCP-5044-A becomes agitated, subjects mouth expands incredibly wide, Dr. Akra views this and drops the subject, sprinting out of the cell.

Conducted upon SCP-5044-A

Summary:
Autopsy of SCP-5044-A has shown the internal organs of the subject to be completely [REDACTED]. Regardless of this fact, the entity functions as though it were fully functioning with said organs. Under closer inspection of the age of the skin layered on SCP-5044-A, it has shown to be over nine-hundred (900) years old. It is safe to say SCP-5044-A has no known lifespan, weaknesses of the subject include [DATA EXPUNGED]. However, none of these are to be exploited, as SCP-5044-A is not a threat as long as containment procedures are monitored properly.
