Nx-53, or udelida adohi inage in Cherokee, Secret Forest in English, was first settled in 1831 as a direct result of the Trail of Tears. During the course of those events, 3,563 Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Muskogee Creek, and Seminole people relocated to Nx-53. It is believed to have been inactive before the first group of 27 Choctaw people discovered it by accident. In the month they were gone, they discovered how it works.

State of Containment
He had excuses and he chose to use them
He was the victim of unspeakable abuses
His husband was violent, malicious and distant
His kid now belongs to the state of containment
Junior Researcher Richard Haney Hayley Jr. was in a Foundation medical facility recovering from injuries sustained in a breach when the door opened and the director of Site-89, Director Anina walked in.
"Hello, Researcher Hayley."
"Hi, uh, hello ma'am," he responded.
She said, "I came so I could speak with you. I have a lot of questions about what happened in that lab, and why."
"I'm an open book ma'am, ask away."
She took out a few sheets of paper.
Without looking up from the papers, she said, "I'll be recording this conversation for posterity."
Rick suddenly coughed and his eyes widened, but only for a second. "Okay."
"First, since the cameras were damaged, I'll need a description of what it looked like."
"Before or after, ma'am?"
"Both."
"Can I assume you've read the reports on the other tests?
"Yes."
"Okay, ma'am. Before, it was a bog standard testing animal. This one was a Pan troglodytes, same as the other two. It was captive born and raised, weighed 59 kilograms, was 87 centimeters tall, and was 27 years old. After, it was maybe 75 kilos, and just over a meter. Its canines also grew considerably, maybe by 10 centimeters. It was also excreting a substance that looked similar to what we injected it with from somewhere in its mouth and its fur was matted with blood. I couldn't tell whose. Its strength had to have tripled because it tore through the restraints easily."
"Good. What kind of restraints were used?"
"We handcuffed it to a table, ma'am."
"That does not sound like standard procedure."
"It is not ma'am. I suggested to Researcher Andrews it was a bad idea, but he said there wasn't time to get a new sample."
"Why wasn't there enough time? And that doesn't sound like Andrews."
"It wasn't. The venom sample we received was about to expire. I said we could just request another but he refused. He said we should just go ahead, that it was perfectly safe. That we'd performed the test before."
"What is your opinion of Senior Researcher Andrews's actions?"
Rick started to speak, then stopped himself and was silent for a few seconds.
He wrote, "may I speak off the record" on a sheet of paper and held it up.
She hesitated, confused, then nodded slowly, and shut it off.

DIR. ANINA: So, what do you want to say?
JR. RSRCHR HAYLEY: (sighs) Andrews was fundamentally a good man. He was a great father to his son and a good researcher. Better than me. At both. He was the victim of unfortunate circumstances, and he let it destroy him. The situation with his husband, you know, it messed him up. He tried to ignore it, just push through, and it affected him. Grief's a freeloading bitch. It doesn't tend to go away when you ask it to. Andrews was always a reserved and stubborn guy, and it's part of what made him great as a researcher. But in the end, it cost him. Normally, he would have agreed with me and waited, but that grief, it clouded his decision-making, and the whiskey wasn't doing him any favors either. He'd have made it out fine, even better than me but he took that gun while I laid there and he put one in his brain. (crying) I had t-to w-atch him, him kil- sorry. I'm sorry, I can't. I- (sighs and lays back on the bed)
DIR. ANINA: Are you gonna be okay?
JR. RSRCHR HAYLEY: Yes. I've been through worse. Much worse. We should be worrying about his son. Would you want to remember your dad like that?
DIR. ANINA: (softly, looking down) No, I didn't wouldn't. (looking up) I'll contact RAISA. They'll expunge the security tapes from in here. His son will remember his father as the man he was, not who he became. I knew him before, and I'm sorry. I had no idea how bad he'd gotten.
JR. RSRCHR HAYLEY: Ok. What do I say when you start it again?
DIR. ANINA: Just describe who he was.
JR. RSRCHR HAYLEY: (with a sad look) Okay. Y'know, he did save me. He wasn't completely broken.
DIR. ANINA: Yeah. No one ever is.
JR. RSRCHR HAYLEY: Yeah. He did. But we can't.
JR. RSRCHR HAYLEY: Where'll the kid stay?
DIR. ANINA: I don't know.
JR. RSRCHR HAYLEY: (swallows) I'll do it.
DIR. ANINA: Well, we'd have to ask the child, and liase with local social services. It'll be a lot of struggle, and paperwork. Are you certain about this?
JR. RSRCHR HAYLEY: No.
DIR. ANINA: (nods) Listen, if you need anything to help the kid, just let me know.
JR. RSRCHR HAYLEY: (slowly nods) Thank you.

"Senior Researcher Andrews was a brave man. He sacrificed himself for me, despite the son he had at home. He was greatly burdened, having to balance his position as a Senior Researcher and single father. He had many flaws, but cowardice was never one. He may have caused the breach, but he acted selflessly when he saw his mistake. I undoubtedly owe him my life."
"Thank you, Researcher Hayley. That is all."
I suppose you're a victim
I suspect you may have lied
If you've lost all ambition won't you give this thing a try
If you can't and you fail won't be the only loser
This kid don't stand a chance without you in his future
beep. The recording ended.
There was a long silence.
"So that's how he died," Billy said.
"Yeah," Rick replied.
"I'm sorry. I really shouldn't have hidden it from you. It was a mistake."
"No," Billy Andrews shook his head. "I'm glad I could remember him as a good man for those years. It kept me going."
Rick looked at him and smiled. "Thanks. I've doubted what I was doing so many times."
"Thanks for at least not pretending to be my real dad."
Rick laughed softly. "I thought that might've been a bit too much for you to find out. Glad I was right."
Billy nodded and hugged Rick. "I still love you, Poppa."
Rick just smiled and hugged him back, his face lit up by the computer screen.
