Special Containment Procedures: Due to its nature, SCP-5188 is currently uncontained.
All instances of SCP-5188-1 is to be detained and placed under Foundation custody under the guise of insanity while instances of SCP-5188-2 is to be monitored 24/7.
Any interaction with instances of SCP-5188-1 or SCP-5188-2 is prohibited. Only limited distant monitoring is allowed. Any contact is to be avoided unless the safety or civilians are endangered. SCP-5188-1 instances who are affected particularly severely by its effects are to be detained and placed under Foundation custody. The subject is to be quarantined and placed away from any sentient life forms if possible.
Any personnel interacting with SCP-5188-1 are required to undergo a psychological evaluation before and afterwards. After incident 5188-A, any personnel interacting with SCP-5188-1 is to be rotated out on a weekly basis.
Description: SCP-5188 is a memetic contagious phenomenon that is speculated to be caused by a metaphysical sapient entity. SCP-5188 will affect the mental state of subjects exposed to it and any surrounding sentient life forms under certain conditions.
SCP-5188 is transmitted through any conscious interaction with a subject exposed to SCP-5188, which can be mutual or one sided. This includes visual, audio and even thought interaction. As of 19/2/2019, it is speculated that over 85% of humanity is already exposed to SCP-5188.
Subjects exposed to SCP-5188 will not show any obvious symptoms until SCP-5188 'triggers' when the subject perform a certain kind of action. Generally, a 'bad' or 'evil' action, regardless of legality, will cause the subject to become an instance of SCP-5188-1 while a 'good' or 'kind' action will cause the subject to become an instance of SCP-5188-2. The mechanism that is used to determine the trigger is under investigation as the same actions have resulted in different outcomes, but it is speculated to be related to the mental state of the subject and individuals around them.
Both SCP-5188-1 and SCP-5188-2 show symptoms that vary greatly between individuals and many outliers have been documented. However, some common symptoms have been observed and tested.
Symptoms of SCP-5188-1:
1)Hear a dim infant crying sound.
2)The intensity of the crying will increase when doing a 'bad' or 'evil' action.
3)Increase in the intensity of crying will correspond with the spontaneous development of negative emotions and mental illnesses like paranoia, anxiety and depression.
4)Surrounding individuals, regardless of prior relationship with the subject, will develop negative feelings towards the subject which will also correspond with the intensity of crying.
5)Persist until expiration or until sincere and genuine remorse and guilt is expressed.
Symptoms of SCP-5188-2:
1)Hear a soft infant laughing sound that will not cause panic or discomfort.
2)Intensity of the laughing will increase over time or when doing a 'good' or 'kind' action.
3)The subject will experience happiness and comfort when hearing the laughing sound which will correspond to its intensity.
4)Surrounding individuals, regardless of prior relationship with the subject, will develop positive feelings towards the subject which will also correspond with the intensity of laughing.
5)Any individual who intentionally causes harm to instances of SCP-5188-2 will become an instance of SCP-5188-1.
6)Persist until expiration, a 'bad' or 'evil' action is done, or sometimes gradually disappear over time.
Note that current symptoms of SCP-5188-1 have differed greatly from its original version and that SCP-5188-2 has only recently appeared since 2019.
The first instances of SCP-5188-1 was found on May 14, 2017 in Phoenix, Arizona. Four males, who were speculated to be instances of SCP-5188-1 at this point showed up at Haven Behavioral Hospital seeking psychiatric help, claiming to be hearing loud crying noises and demanding immediate assistance. However, all of the staff and patients unanimously ignored them. Recording shows the subjects to be enraged but were stopped by hospital security. When they resisted, they were then subdued and rendered unconscious by security guards and surrounding civilians using excessive violence.
Police were then called in who detained them in police cells and left them without food or water for several days. This caused one of the subjects to expire due to dehydration and another due to blood loss from prior wounds. Afterwards. police officers started to chew and spit food into the mouths of the remaining two subjects at daily intervals. They were kept for 2 weeks before the series of events attracted the attention of foundation personnel who managed to subdue and amnesticise the officers and obtain custody of an instance of SCP-5188-1, the other expiring during the conflict.
SCP 5188-2 Interview Log- 10/11/2017
Interviewed: SCP-5188-1
Interviewer:Dr. Tyore
Foreword: SCP-5188-1 was interviewed by Dr. Tyore in another room using a text to speech application which also translates SCP-5188-1's speech into text. SCP-5188-1 has currently been under foundation custody for 2 weeks with minimal interaction with foundation personnel.

Dr. Tyore : So, just to be sure, your name is Audrey Swartz, is that correct?
SCP-5188-1: Huh? Yeah, I…I'm Audrey Swartz, yeah.
Dr. Tyore : Ok then Audrey, can you tell us, in full detail, what happened to you before you arrived here?
SCP-5188-1: What happened to me…WHAT HAPPENED TO ME? I WAS TREATED LIKE A DOG-NO, AN INSECT THAT'S WHAT HAPPENED TO ME!! I don't even know what the fuck is going on or if I'm dreaming right now.
Dr. Tyore : Ok, I understand you are upset due to the circumstances, but we are also trying to figure out the cause of this incident. If possible, you should tell us about any peculiar incidents, objects or people you have come across before the incident.
SCP-5188-1: I don't know man, I've got lots of enemies and came across many strange stuff before, especially when I'm having my fun time ya' know? I can't exactly pick just one.
SCP-5188-1: The only significant thing that happened was that a week before, we…
SCP-5188-1 stays silent and does not continue speaking.
Dr. Tyore : Do not worry, we will not charge you with any crime you have committed. Understanding what happened is our highest priority and that requires your assistance.
SCP-5188-1: Okay…okay. A week before all that shit went down, we were uhm… taking drugs and hanging out, just walking around. Coincidentally, a flaming ho- I mean a beautiful car with a… beautiful woman inside that was being driven by a scrawny looking man arrived in front of us.
Dr. Tyore : Please continue.
SCP-5188-1: Okay. So like, I didn't really wanna do it, but sadly the others were… less unwilling. They easily knocked out the guy, like, he would probably fall to the wind, especially when he's wearing these strange tattoos and symbols, make his seem like a freak. And then, started having fun with the girl, and… oh god I remember there was even a baby there, oh my god why did we even do that.
Dr. Tyore: Can you tell us if anything strange happened during that time?
SCP-5188-1: Something strange…yeah, I think there was something. I think it was Mandor? He wasn't happy with just the girl I guess, he started to play with the baby, holding it in front of the man with broken arms and legs at this point and like, started squeezing it. Like, what the fuck was wrong with him?
Dr. Tyore : To be clear, this 'Mandor' is Mandor Liowall, is that correct? Your friend who died due to blood loss in the police cell? The trash of humanity?
SCP-5188-1: Uh..yeah that's him. Believe me, I wanted to stop him, I really did, but he was always the biggest one in the group, we never could go against him. I remember it was when he was playing with the baby that something strange happened
Dr. Tyore :Describe this 'strange' event in full detail.
SCP-5188-1: It was right after he squeezed the baby until he was like all red. Oh my god the screams I heard that day was horrifying. The father started to mumble some nonsense. It was really quiet so we couldn't hear if it was even English but he went on for a while, even the baby stopped crying and was left in front of him. By the way, did I mention he had a massive, gigantic hole in his head the whole time? It really adds to the creepy atmosphere.
Dr. Tyore : Do you think that was what caused the incident? The fact that you killed a man, his wife and child in cold blood like an animal? No, lower than an animal.
SCP-5188-1: What? You mean like karma or divine judgement or ghost and all that shit? I don't believe in that stuff man. Besides, this is completely ridiculous if it is. I didn't even do nothing man, I just watched is all. They, or more specifically, Mandor was the one who did all that. I mean, I did enjoy myself with the woman a little, but it was after she already stopped moving, it's ridiculous that I have the same punishment as them.
SCP-5188-1:I DID NOTHING WRONG, DO YOU GET ME YOU BASTARD. IF IT REALLY IS A GOD OR A BABY GHOST HAUNTING ME, LISTEN TO ME, I DID NOTHING WRONG, SO LET ME FUCKING GO ALREADY. YOU ALREADY KILLED THE TRUE CULPRITS, I'M JUST AN INNOCENT BYSTANDER. STOP BOTHERING ME YOU PIECE OF-
At this point, SCP-5188-1 drops on the ground, clutching his ears and screaming while backing away from the center of the room. Dr. Tyore and other personnel rushed into the room and start to attack SCP-5188-1 using any nearby objects.

Note: After Incident SCP-5188-A, SCP-5188-1 entered a comatose state and is contained using the same containment procedures. Personnel who were afraid of the subject purposefully did not give food and water to the subject for 3 weeks, which lead to the finding that SCP-5188-1 is now biologically immortal. His hume levels have also been recorded to be abnormally high. Dr. Tyore and other personnel who participated in the incident were amnesticised and transferred away. Instances of SCP-5188-1 also started appearing around Phoenix, Arizona and other places nearby after the incident.
Addendum: On February 16, 2019, SCP-5188-1 woke up from their comatose state. On site personnel started to serve SCP-5188-1 expensive high class food without any provocation. When questioned, they reported to 'feel like doing it'. All affected personnel were amnesticised and transferred away. All on site personnel were ordered to carry or wear telekill objects at all times, even in personal lives. This was shortly after the symptoms of SCP-5188-1 started to change and instances of SCP-5188-2 started to appear.
SCP 5188-2 Interview Log- 19/2/2018

Foreword: SCP-5188-1 requested to speak to the site director. The request was denied but many personnel also requested that SCP-5188-1 have a meeting with the site director unprovoked.

Dr. Malore:So, you wanted to speak to me, is this correct?
SCP-5188-1: Yes, I did request a meeting with you, Mrs. Malore.
Dr. Malore: Ok… so, what did you want to talk about? I'm not really the best in starting a conversation with an anomaly and I'm obviously not in a position to leave.
SCP-5188-1: Hmm, then let's talk about our job, our purpose in life. Then, maybe you can understand me.
Dr. Malore : Understand you huh?… well okay then, my job is to keep things like you away from people, that is all. Are there any question? If not, then I think it's your turn.
SCP-5188-1: A good purpose for life, but I think you are greatly mistaken about me. No matter, I will first tell you about mine. That purpose is-was, to guard. No, I think keeping is better, keeping something from destroying itself as well as from being destroyed. A zookeeper, ah yes that's the word. One who protects the animals from harm from outside as well as from inside.
Dr. Malore : A zookeeper? Records show that you were unemployed before coming here though? I think you might be confused. Or are you saying your home was a zoo?
SCP-5188-1: I don't appreciate being disturbed and I don't appreciate sarcasm. Now, continuing on, I was tasked with keeping the zoo from things bigger and stronger than I could ever be. Just one would be enough to destroy the cage with a single breath. Fortunately, I do not need strength. Instead of brute strength or intimidation, I focus on the art of the mind. I confuse them, making them unable to find the cage or why they even want the cage. It requires a specific talent, you see. It is awfully interesting to have those creatures turn tail and run at the whim of something that cannot even touch them. However, it gets repetitive after some time.
SCP-5188-1: That's why I did the only thing I could do to pastime , I went into the cages and played with the animals in there. My boss and colleagues either don't care or are too busy to care so I can basically do whatever I want. Some of the animals even worshipped me, that was the most interesting part to be honest even if they are a small minority. That's why it pains me when an animal choose to play god and decide the fate of one who recognizes my superiority. I can still remember his last words, not to beg for mercy or help, but to thank me for the time I gave him, funny, since I didn't give him anything at all, which makes it all the more harder to let the animals kill each other.
SCP-5188-1: And that is why I play god in the cage of animals. Because they won't, nor will those like me. Well, except for a few who are relatively active. I do hope they are doing their job though, many invaders have entered the cage, its getting pretty cramped in here. I mean, I was always the weakest one, even if my numbers were always the highest. They are to slay the dragon while I am to exterminate the hordes of ants. They should manage without me.
SCP-5188-1: Oh, I almost forgot about this part. There is also some animals inside the cage who are less dumb than others, or they come across a less dangerous invader, and they somehow think they are smart. They start to use these invaders, hoarding them, destroying them, using them to get favors. I really do not care, but these animals who think they are smart should be able to tell the difference between an invader and their keeper, right? Any questions?
SCP-5188-1: Well, if that is all, I will be off. Make sure to get me out in three days or I will (chuckles) call the cops on you kidnappers. And in case you think otherwise, I do not need you to let me out, this is merely a formality, I am giving you a chance redeem yourselves in the eyes of the rulekeepers. Oh, also, say hi to Darrel and Jane for me. Man, you are so lucky. Don't waste this life on some stupid pride okay? Oh and don't worry, you won't die from that little wound, I've learned my lesson this time.

Note: Thirty minutes later, Dr. Malore submitted a release request for SCP-5188-1 who she claimed to be neutralized. The request was denied but a containment breach caused by on site personnel led to SCP-5118-1 going missing. Dr. Malore submitted a request to be amnesticised and to resign from Foundation service. The request was approved.
