Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-5928 is to be kept in a specialized holding cell that can also contain SCP-5928-1 in its largest form of a grand piano and accompanying bench, outfitted with a slightly raised stage and seating of up to 24 additional persons. SCP-5928 is to be given an audience of 24 D-Class personnel twice a week between the hours of 20:30 and 23:59 to maintain stability in accordance with Procedure-5928. Exposure to SCP-5928 and SCP-5928-1 has led to D-Class personnel showing sympathy and sadness towards it. This does not seem to be a lasting effect, as this effect seems to dissipate within 4 to 7 days.

Description:
SCP-5928, known by the Foundation as “The Starving Artist”, is a humanoid entity that has been seen taking several different forms since originally being placed in containment by the Foundation. The humanoid is commonly dressed in formal attire, specifically attire fitting of a performing musician (accommodating for its current form). SCP-5928 has taken on the appearance of men, women, and several androgynous appearances since originally being taken in by the foundation on 9/10/2015. Originally spotted in New York NY in 1994, SCP-5928 was rumored to go for days or weeks on end playing in a variety of different jazz clubs and performance venues without sleeping or eating, nor showing signs of physical, mental, or emotional fatigue.
Eyewitness accounts have described SCP-5928 as anywhere between 1.5 and 2 meters in height on different nights, and consistently of average build, provided it has been consistently administered Procedure-5928 . SCP-5928’s most commonly assumed form is that of a Caucasian male in his twenties standing at approximately 1.8 meters in height. In this form, the entity has silver-grey hair, navy blue irises, and is dressed in a matching navy and grey suit and tie outfit. Despite this however the following appearances have also been assumed by SCP-5928 during containment at Site-28:

A young Caucasian woman in her early twenties
An eldery Caucasian man in his late fifties to early sixties
An African-American woman in her thirties
An adolescent Asian male
A Hispanic female around nine years of age.

SCP-5928 is friendly, personable, and polite regardless of the form it has assumed, though it will not initiate conversation with Foundation personnel unless Procedure-5928 has concluded and it is before the time of 6:30 A.M. In contrast, it will remain sociable if someone else initiates the conversation outside of these circumstances. The entity appears very interested in music performance, music composition, and the way music can emotionally impact people, though it does not actively oppose conversation on other topics as well. This amiability has led to a series of informative interviews with SCP-5928 regarding its origins, SCP-5928-1, and its life before containment at Site-63, included later within this article.

SCP-5928-1 is the designation given for SCP-5928’s instrument and the many forms it has taken. Seemingly transforming in sync with 5928, 5928-1 has been seen taking the form of several different musical instruments. Like 5928, SCP-5928-1 has a commonly assumed form, this being a grand piano. 5928-1 has also been seen to assume the form of the following instruments:

Clarinet in B-flat
Trumpet in B-flat
Violin
Cello

Aside from the ability to change form, 5928-1 has also shown the anomalous ability to create the sound of a typical jazz rhythm section, consisting of piano, bass, and drum set when 5928 is performing. This is only true if 5928-1 is not in the form of any of these instruments itself. SCP-5928-1 has not shown any threat to Foundation personnel despite these anomalous properties.

Addendum-5928-01:

If Procedure-5928 is not conducted at regular intervals as described above, 5928 is shown to appear pale and sickly with increased signs of aging, getting increasingly worse as longer time intervals pass. After 14 days and increasingly frantic pleas from 5928, Procedure-5928 was conducted and 5928 returned to perfect health. Further details can be found in Experiment Log-5928-01

Addendum-5928-02:

Upon further discussion between Foundation Research personnel and confirmation from the Site Director, 5928 has been given permission to roam the facility after showing signs of clinical depression and suicidal thoughts. When confronted about this, 5928 expressed discontent and a lack of inspiration while held in containment.
