Item #: SCP-4909
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: All instances of SCP-4909 are to be immediately contained in basic humanoid containment, completely isolated from all other instances of SCP-4909, and any measures within reason are to be taken to preserve it's survival, despite it's deformities that my delay hinder such actions. Examples of such measures include, IV drips, augmentation through surgical methods, and supplying basic food and diluted water to cases capable of preforming required actions to successfully process such items. After researchers have deemed the current subject to no longer be of any use in terms of study, it is to be terminated.
Description: SCP-4909 is a condition found almost exclusively within populations of those directly effected by atomic weaponry, as well as being in direct view of SCP-4909-3 (see addendum-03). However, some attempts of replicating it's effects in a controlled lab environment have been successful to some extent.
Effects of SCP-4909 in it's most mild cases may include radical disfigurement of the subject's face and body, due to extreme heat, and more fascinatingly, long black fingernail-like structures that grew anywhere from 3-25 cm in length, containing fully functional blood vessels and nerves. Facial disfigurement may restrict verbal function and possibly breathing, which can be simply fixed through basic augmentation surgery.
The more severe cases SCP-4909 may exhibit traits such as extreme facial deformity, nerve damage, and the growth of teeth, hair, keratin deposits in seemingly random places around the body, along with the nail-like structure mentioned earlier. In some scenarios, more advanced body parts, such as tongues, eyes, and muscles are developed, but are very rare, and are usually rendered useless due to improper nerve connection.
Those assigned to the research of SCP-4909 have illustrated the process in which most cases of the anomaly effect subjects, which has been condensed into a series of steps.
1. Initial Exposure: A subject comes into contact with copious amounts of heat and ionizing radiation, melting the face, and altering the genetic code of certain areas, allowing the formation of new body parts. The nervous system may be damaged in this process, causing excruciating pain, leading to the subject painfully vocalizing for hours on end.
2. Minor effects: As screaming continues over the span of 24 hours, subjects will experience extreme injury to vocal chords, enhancing the psychological effects. Extreme cases of vocal disfigurement will inhibit screaming completely, causing a raspy murmuring that witness describe as highly disturbing, causing extreme psychosis, and paranoia, artificially mimicking a auditory cognitohazard.
3. Extreme effects: Skin may be coated in plates of thick keratin, measuring from 3-6cm in thickness, and 8-12cm in diameter. Development of complex organs has been recorded, as well as remarkable development of muscle mass. Please note that this stage has never been successfully replicated in a laboratory environment, but can be successfully and consistently be replicated by contact with thermonuclear weaponry.
Testing on instances of SCP-4909 is authorized by anyone with Level 3 Security Clearance or higher, and usage of D-class personnel is permitted. Intentional creation of instances of SCP-4909 must be authorized and overseen by O5 personnel.
Addendum-01: SCP-490-1 Recovery Log: The first cases of SCP-4909 were recovered in Hiroshima, Japan; shortly after the detonation of the nuclear warhead "Little Boy" was detonated. Mobile Task Force Beta-7 was sent to search for anomalies related to the explosion, and upon hearing local rumors of "Ant-Walking Alligators" roaming the city, worked congruently with Mobile Task Force Pi-1 to locate and contain all instances of SCP-4909-1, living and nonliving. Beta-7 was later sent to ████████, a neighboring city of Nagasaki, and instructed to relocate to Nagasaki after the detonation of the warhead and retrieve further cases of SCP-4909, leading to the first discovery of more severe cases of SCP-4909-1, later deemed SCP-4909-2.
Addendum-02: SCP-4909-2 Description: SCP-4909-2 is a large, vaguely humanoid creature, measuring from approximately 200-380cm in height and weighing anywhere from 200-460kg. SCP-4909-2 is not capable of extreme vocalizations, as seen in cases of SCP-4909-1, and as a result of this, make a murmuring sound described by witnesses to be as potent, if not more so, than the loud screams of SCP-4909-1. The exterior dermal layer of SCP-4909-2 has been observed to be covered in layers of keratin-coated enamel deposits, and measured to be anywhere from 3-6cm in thickness. These plates surround the body, but usually do not appear on the spinal cord, as well as behind joints (I.E. Behind knees, under arms, and elbows.) These plates have been tested to stop most small arms rounds, as well as almost all sharp weapons, and blunt weapons. These plates are capable of resealing cracks and holes over time, and tend to be stronger after sealing cracks than before initial damage, similar to the healing process of human bones.
Addendum-03: SCP-4909-3 Description: SCP 4909-3 is the most advanced stage of SCP-4909.
SCP-4909-3is located in the Chernobyl nuclear plant, and is unable to be transferred to any site containment facility due to it's immense weight and radioactive properties. SCP-4909-3 is a large blob of of unknown material, originally thought to be radioactive superheated lava produced by the main core meltdown in August 26, 1986. This theory remained accepted, until July of 1988, when hyper-sensitive seismometers detected a mammalian breathing pattern, but at a respiratory rate of about 0.0148 bpm (approx. 1 breath every 68 minutes). The affects of proximity of SCP-4909-3 on subjects usually results on the expiry of the subject, with a roughly 1 in 4 chance of creation of SCP-4909-1 or 4909-2.
Addendum-04: Closing Remarks by Researcher Kocinov: Could you inform Researcher Miller to not absolutely decimate the pronunciation of "Hibashuka" in his briefing videos?
