Item #: SCP-5xxx
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5xxx is to be contained within a standard humanoid containment chamber, and may be provided surplus entertainment at its request, subject to the approval of Dr. Zimmer, the project director. No personnel not assigned to SCP-5xxx are authorized within its active range without first gaining the permission of Dr. Zimmer, though all staff (including security) assigned to SCP-5xxx who have passed a psychiatric evaluation within the past 14 days are welcome to request a visit with it which may not exceed 30 minutes.
Description: SCP-5xxx is a Caucasian human female age twenty-four (24), standing at five (5) feet eight (8) inches tall. Going by the name ███████, SCP-5xxx is fluent in both English and Canadian French, as well as understanding several words and phrases in High Valyrian, a language created for the fictional world within fantasy author George R.R. Martin's book series A Song of Ice and Fire.
SCP-5xxx's anomalous properties are revealed when it encounters another sentient being. Within five (5) seconds of an encounter involving SCP-5xxx, an affected subject becomes part of a group from here on out designated SCP-5xxx-1. After the encounter has begun, they will start to hear music consistent with that of contemporary science fiction western romance horror fantasy media soundtracks, a.k.a. scores, playing a song with an intensity appropriate to the situation (e.g., lightly plucked strings during tense conversation, calming, solo flute while preparing to go to sleep, longing clarinet when reminiscing on childhood). This effect is identified as SCP-5xxx-A.
Currently, the method by which SCP-5xxx-A is transmitted from SCP-5xxx is not understood, as the sound waves that would normally result of such music are not present near SCP-5xxx, any instances of SCP-5xxx-1, or within any room in which the encounter is taking place. The volume of SCP-5xxx-A is often described as "medium and comfortable," seeming to never go above seventy (70) decibels (dB), though all descriptions are subjective due to the inability to record the music with any known equipment. SCP-5xxx's anomalous properties do not conclude immediately after ceasing contact with SCP-5xxx, but will become subtler and subtler over time until an appropriate stopping point in the current song is reached. SCP-5xxx claims that its anomalous properties have been present since age fourteen (14).
Encounters with SCP-5xxx known to produce effect SCP-5xxx-A include:
• Speaking to SCP-5xxx
• Being spoken to by SCP-5xxx
• Getting the attention of SCP-5xxx
• SCP-5xxx attempting to or succeeding in getting a subject's attention
• Being informed of a task that SCP-5xxx is undertaking at any given moment
• Reading any information about SCP-5xxx which SCP-5xxx has written itself or that was written with SCP-5xxx present
This may not be an exhaustive list of affected encounters, as testing is still ongoing.
Within the duration of SCP-5xxx's containment the genre of music that subjects hear when under the effects of SCP-5xxx-A has changed significantly. Testing suggests that the genre of SCP-5xxx-A is based on the current focal point of SCP-5xxx's interests. Over time, as SCP-5xxx has begun to prefer different genres of media, SCP-5xxx-A's anomalous properties have shifted accordingly.
SCP-5xxx is cooperative with foundation goals and willingly takes part in experiments, claiming that it knows as little about its anomalous properties as the foundation, and that it seeks to learn more about them as well.
SCP-5xxx was first discovered by the foundation in 20██ when an agent embedded in ██████ High School, one of the largest schools in the Canadian province of Quebec, heard about a student who had been disciplined over 30 times in the previous school year for playing music on her phone during class. After following foundation procedures to investigate any unusual activity within the community, the agent identified SCP-5xxx. After finding that it continued to produce music even after having its phone confiscated by school officials, the agent contacted foundation personnel immediately.
Due to the nature of SCP-5xxx's anomalous properties, the foundation saw it unnecessary to administer amnestics to school staff or students, as SCP-5xxx's removal from the school environment was already underway prior to foundation intervention. SCP-5xxx's parents were administered amnestics and all societal connections to SCP-5xxx were severed prior to containment.
Addendum: Dr. Schweitzer has requested that SCP-5xxx be allowed to roam about the facility as it has a perfect record of cooperation and poses no physical threat to staff. Request denied.
