Item #:
SCP-001
Object Class:
Unclassifiable
Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-001 is currently contained in a D-17 Life Preservation Chamber, in Room 17-A, located in Site-178. The Life Preservation Chamber must always be powered by 17 separate generators, and their exact locations will only be disclosed among selected members of the Becker Project. Monthly checks are to be carried out on the 17 generators to ensure that they remain functional. Access to Site-178 will only be permitted to members of the Becker Project and members of the O5 Council.
In the event that the Chamber is breached prior to the Awakening, or should SCP-001's containment be compromised by any external factors, including the intervention of any rogue groups, all Becker Project personnel are to enact the Pre-Awakening Protocol, where SCP-001 is to be immediately moved to a secure off-site Chamber for protection, and any breaches in the chamber are to be sealed immediately for re-containment.
Description:
SCP-001 is Mr William Tobias Becker, who was the founder of the Foundation, the first Administrator, and the first member of the O5 Council.
While SCP-001 possesses no anomalous qualities, he is purported to be the holder of several key Foundation secrets, some of which have the potential to damage the Foundation's status and reputation should he die.
As a result of this, and the agreement held between SCP-001 and the Foundation, the Foundation has ruled it necessary for SCP-001 to be kept in stasis until the Awakening commences, and for all matters related to him to be addressed by members of the Becker Project.
Biography:
SCP-001 was born in 1834 to Mr Henry Oswald Becker, chairman of Becker Industries, and Mrs Jane Derin Becker, a housewife, in London, England. As a child, SCP-001 was constantly praised by his teachers for his outstanding academic achievements, and he was noted by his friends and parents as being 'a curious, inquisitive individual'.
Following SCP-001's graduation from Cambridge University in 1856 with a degree in Science, he soon grew fascinated by the prospect that the world was populated by anomalies, and began to explore the world to find and catalogue the anomalies.
During his search for anomalies, SCP-001 took over as the chairman of Becker Industries after his father's passing in 1860 from tuberculosis. He was able to successfully expand the business to America, earning him a lot of profits, and allowing him to continue his search for anomalies.
During his stay in America, SCP-001 befriended Dr Alan Reginald Harrison, a medical doctor working in New York. After discovering that Dr Harrison also believed in the prospect that there were anomalies existing in the world, SCP-001 successfully convinced him to form a society comprised of people who believed in the existence of anomalies like they did. The Anomaly Research Society was officially formed with the intention to catalogue anomalies, and the society held its first meeting in 1863.
While in the process of cataloguing anomalies, SCP-001 realised that not only were some of the recorded anomalies incredibly powerful, they also had the potential of endangering human lives as a whole. As a result, he vowed to capture the dangerous anomalies before they had the chance to pose a threat to humans. To achieve this, he used his profits to expand and strengthen the Anomaly Research Society by purchasing abandoned jailhouses, recruiting soldiers and acquiring valuable scientific equipment. After a few years, he renamed the improved Society the Anomaly Containment Foundation in 1866, resigned from his chairman position at Becker Industries, and led the Foundation as the Administrator for two decades.
During his time as the Administrator, SCP-001 contained and catalogued over 300 anomalies, and formed a special council with the intention of managing the Foundation efficiently and effectively. Under his authority, the Foundation grew to become a successful technologically-advanced organisation.
In 1886, SCP-001 stepped down from his position as the Administrator. During this time, he made a deal with the Foundation on his proposed life preservation scheme, where his life would be preserved until an event designated as the Awakening, where he would awaken and see the changes that had been made to the Foundation in the distant future. The scheme was carried out in 1890, and SCP-001 was successfully kept in stasis, while the Foundation publicly announced to the public that he had died of tuberculosis.
SCP-001 still currently remains in stasis.
Extended Documentation:
Note: Several classified documents have been removed from the edited file. Authorised personnel can view the classified documents in the unedited file below.
Document 1: An excerpt from a letter written by SCP-001 and sent to Dr Harrison
After conversing with you, I have realised that you and I have very similar interests.
We both know that anomalies exist, and we are both interested in finding out more about them.
Hence, I would like to suggest that we meet up again to discuss it.
I'm eagerly waiting for your reply.
Document 2: An excerpt from a newspaper article on SCP-001 titled 'The Becker Mystery', circa 1995
"I am doing things the people don't need to know about. I am venturing in the darkness, so that the people can stay in the light," was his reply to a reporter who asked him what he was currently doing in 1871.
After Becker's resignation as the chairman of Becker Industries in 1865, his friends and several other people who knew him said he just simply 'vanished' from the public eye until his death in 1890. While nowadays, people just attribute his disappearance to the many other 'disappearances' of people in that era as a result of poor surveillance, some are still claiming that Becker was involved in a conspiracy involving the government, with others believing that Becker was involved in some shady deals with the mob at the time.
Document 3: An excerpt from a letter written by SCP-001 and sent to the Becker Project members
I trust that you know what to do at all times. I am entrusting my life into your hands.
When I awaken, I hope to do so to a brighter future, a better Foundation, and most importantly, a solution.
Farewell for now, and good luck.
Additional Information:
The 11/06/74 Incident
On 11th June, 1974, the power to Site-178 was cut for 30 seconds, and the entire site experienced a blackout.
During the blackout period, the life support to SCP-001's Chamber was cut, and SCP-001's pulse stopped for 30 seconds as a result. He was successfully revived when the power to the Chamber was restored.
It was later revealed that the blackout was caused by a power box malfunction that was later fixed.
As a result of the incident, the Chamber has since been powered by 17 separate generators that are constantly checked for functionality.
No casualties were recorded during the blackout.
