Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-XXX is to be contained on site in it's native cave system in ███, Idaho. A skeleton crew of no more than two level 2 researchers and two armed guards are to be kept at the facility to keep people away from the site. Guards on duty are to be in the uniform of the local park rangers and are to deter any spelunkers showing interest in the cave system with a cover story involving the cave system being unsafe for traversal due to underground volcanic activity.
SCP-XXXX's containment area is not to be entered by anyone not wearing level A hazmat suits graded to resist acidity levels of 3 pH or lower. Researchers are only to enter SCP-XXXX's containment area for collecting samples or to repair or add equiptment for monitoring SCP-XXXX. Researchers are not to enter the containment area without at least one other person to act as a "spotter".
Description:
SCP-XXXX is a collection of extremophiles resembling a snottite living in the ██████ cave system in ██████ National Park. Samples collected from SCP-XXXX show it to be a cooperative conglomeration of unknown bacteria with the exception of the mass having >5% Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans common to non anomalous snottites. SCP-XXXX anomalous properties involve its apparent mobility and adaptation towards ambush predation along with its abnormaly high level of acidity (roughly 2.7 pH)
SCP-XXXX when in rest looks like a standard snottite. It dangles from the cave ceiling in a single large mass that fluctuates based on available food sources. It sends down small ropes of itself to the cave floor and when it senses vibration the mass of SCP-XXXX will fall upon the source and disolve it. integrating its biological mass into itself and turning the disolved subject into more SCP-XXXX.
Subject has also been noted to slowly move across the cave system's ceiling should it go without sustenance for any amount of time over two weeks.
Collected samples retain pH levels but do not show the same level of coordination. Though once samples have been "fed" and reach a minimum size of 52 grams the samples become their own discreet instances of SCP-XXXX. Samples then reintroduced into containment seek out and rejoin the existing mass in the cave. The process in which the samples were able to find the mass are currently unknown.
Addendum:
SCP-XXXX was discovered by a park ranger in ██████
National Park after a spelunker was found in the woods near SCP-XXXX's cave system suffering chemical burns over 75% of his body. The ranger called in saying the victim was rambling "about the fucking blob living in ███ cave."
SCP assets were not informed until the ranger in question disapeared the next week. After which the cave and the nature of the anomoly was discovered and secured by SCP assets stationed in the park.
