SCP-3XXX-38's liquid in normal clear glass.
Item #: SCP-3XXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: No more than 40 SCP-3XXX instances are to be stored in secure lockboxes at Site-73. Exceeding instances are to be reported to involved Level 4 personnel and to be prepared for aerial transference immediately.
No sudden impact or force is to be allowed near SCP-3XXX containment. If maintenance, explosive use or any other kind of event that would incur in short bursts of force is needed, SCP-3XXX is to be carefully transferred to other secure lockboxes in another containment locker room.
Testing using SCP-3XXX instances is currently forbidden in Site-73.
Testing using SCP-3XXX instances is currently allowed as long as it's done in other sites and the site's involved research team is properly informed.
Eventual external reports related to SCP-3XXX manifestations are to be investigated by non-specific field agents on a case-by-case basis.
Class A amnestic use on civilian witnesses is considered a normal measure.
Electrical fires and smoke bombs cover stories are to be implemented by agents as fit for the situation.
Description: SCP-3XXX is the collective of several bottles filled with liquid referred individually as SCP-3XXX-1-40. Bottles stay anomalous as long as liquid is inside and so are considered together as a single instance.
The individual instances of SCP-3XXX appeared to replicate some kind of commercial "Liquid Smoke"(food flavoring intended for barbecues and meat products) with the only differences being the anomalous effect, the stamp(described below) and the brand Silva's Garden Foods(GoI-3XXX).
Almost all instances show a grey stamp printed somewhere in the label with the words "Extra smoky!". The stamp is always in English. It was not found in any non-anomalous products and was not related to any existing brands. It is hypothesized that instances that do not have this stamp had it removed by civilians, but otherwise had it originally.
Instances of SCP-3XXX have been retrieved from several different countries. The label however is always in English, regardless of local language and place of manufacture(as written in the labels).
In most manifestations more than one instance is retrieved at the same time.
Chemical testing regarding the contents of the liquid have proved inconclusive, as most tests show regular contents of Liquid Smoke products. Nothing regarding the production of smoke was found as of writing of this document, but hypotheses exist.
SCP-3XXX displays 2 separate anomalous effects, the first being SCP-3XXX's manifestation.
Instances of SCP-3XXX come to exist seemingly at random, spontaneously appearing mixed with other non-anomalous bottles.
It is yet unknown if SCP-3XXX transforms existing bottles or if it generates a new one. Checking inventory of stores where instances were located showed inconclusive results.
It is theorized that SCP-3XXX only affects edible or potable liquids.
Silva's Garden Foods involvement or existence is still debated. No connection to Gamers Against Weed or any other GoIs or PoIs have been made yet and is supposed to be part of the anomalous effect of SCP-3XXX and of no particular importance. If any other information or product of this GoI ever appears, it is to be informed immediately to administration.
SCP-3XXX's second and most notable effect is that it is capable of producing smoke anomalously.
This black smoke is unusually thick, similarly to military heavy duty smoke bombs, being able to reliably block vision of observers.
The time which smoke is produced have varied wildly in tests, but tend to stay around the average of 37 minutes.
The process which produces this smoke is currently unknown, and tests suggest that the smoke is spontaneously liberated by the liquid(or it's general area when mixed) without consuming anything as fuel or reducing the mass of the liquid.
This effect is, however, only produced if certain conditions are met. The conditions and their results are as follow:
| Condition |
Result |
The liquid is ingested by a human being
through any means.
|
Smoke escapes subject's mouth and nose.
|
Sudden force is applied to the bottle.
|
Smoke forms violently from the liquid,
forcibly opening the bottle.
|
Preparing and presenting food made
with SCP-3XXX.
|
|
The process of releasing smoke when ingested is unusually painless to human subjects. The smoke only poses a minor annoyance, as even entering direct contact with the subject's or any other human's eyes produces no adverse reactions.
This occurrence is also notable to completely envelop the subject's face and everything above it in smoke. Subjects also state to being able to see through the smoke they release, albeit with slight difficulty.
If the smoke is released by impact applied to the bottle, it acts as expected of heavy regular smoke.
Emptied bottles become non-anomalous, while liquid poured, ingested and used in food preparation slowly disintegrates after the smoke release ends.
When bottles experience impact, liquid is maintained if it does not leave the inside of the bottle.
Affected bottles are destructible to a certain degree. Lightly damaging it is possible but breaking or wearing the bottle to the point where liquid would leak is not.
Addendum: The thick smoke produced was identified as potentially useful for foundation technology after the first initial tests that assessed SCP-3XXX's Safe classification.
Following tests with safe anomalous memes and active visual hazards proved that the smoke is capable of reliably blocking their effects for the subjects. Subjects state that "everything looks foggy and hard to see", but also that they are able to distinguish general shapes and colors around them.
Since arrival on Site-73, many tests were conducted to understand the nature and mechanisms of SCP-3XXX, aiming to replicate it's effects. After O5 interference on 27/05/████, due to Test 3XXX-5 resulting in D-730071-C death and the harmful properties of forceful release discovery, all future Site-73 tests were forbidden.
As the interest in the useful effects of SCP-3XXX remained, it was decided by O5-██, O5-██ and O5-██ that testing was to be continued in other sites more properly equipped to deal with the excessive smoke and that also have relevant memes and cognitohazards for cross-testing. RAISA updated the original document to include only basic containment information by O5 orders. Following this event, this file was created.
Secrecy needs are based on protection of our technology and research. The less people know about this, the better. As put by O5-██, "It is best if no one tries to retrieve or steal SCP-3XXX, as it's useful for our technology development. We don't want any GoI to develop this technology before we do."
The danger of spreading anti-meme technology was enough reason to convince 2 other O5s and all the involved researchers.
Currently, instances exceeding the limit of 40 in Site-73 are shipped to several other sites and tested under secrecy with specific research teams. Site-19, Site-23, Site-45, Site-66 and Site-76 commonly request instances for testing.
These tests range for military use as smoke grenades alternatives to protective measures against dangerous memes and visual cognitohazards.
All agents involved in these secret researches are to be given clearance Level 3/3XXX, only valid to access this document.
New tests and cross-testing are pending permission.
