Item #: SCP-XXXX
SCP-XXXX sitting in his boat
Object Class: Neutralized Safe
Special Containment Procedures: The area of SCP-XXXX must be restricted to public access, with the facade of an ecological research reserve, anyone who wants to enter the area of SCP-XXXX must be stopped, interrogated and then released without first being administered with a class c amnesiac
Description: SCP-XXXX resembles an slender old man in vague ripped dark clothes, between 70 and 80 years old, measuring 1.60 m and weighing approximately 27 kg. It communicates in ancient Greek and understands english, but has refused to do interviews with foundation staff.
SCP-XXXX manifests on top of a 2 meter long and 1 meter wide wooden boat at 12pm on the banks of the Acheron River located in Epirus, Greece. During this period SCP-XXXX offers to take anyone nearby in his boat, as long as he can pay, the normal price being between 1 to 3 silver coins. If no one appears or accepts the trip for 1 hour after its manifestation, he will go in his boat and disappear.
Upon payment, SCP-XXXX waits for the subject (now referred to as SCP-XXXX-B) to enter the boat and begin to row down the river.
At this stage SCP-XXXX and SCP-XXXX-B enter a dimension with a river identical to the Acheron but with a desolate landscape covered in mist that makes it difficult to see through it.
Upon reaching the other end of the river, SCP-XXXX concludes the trip and lands, at this time SCP-XXXX-B can decide whether to stay or return to SCP-XXXX, who will again request a payment of between 1 to 3 silver coins.
Upon payment, SCP-XXXX waits again for SCP-XXXX-B to enter the boat to begin rowing.
At this stage, SCP-XXXX and SCP-XXXX-B leave the previous dimension and return to the normal Acheron River1.
If SCP-XXXX-B decides to stay, SCP-XXXX will stay on the river bank waiting for SCP-XXXX-B to finish exploring the place, now referred to as SCP-XXXX-C.
SCP-XXXX-C is a hazy and gloomy area with no apparent plant life in the vicinity. Several translucent humanoid entities pass through this area, these entities are one behind the other, forming a row of approximately 500 meters
Discovery: SCP-XXXX was discovered by the foundation after several reports, videos and testimonies in Greece of an old man offering to take people in a boat and disappearing with them shortly after at 12pm.
Upon reaching the area there were a large number of people waiting for SCP-XXXX. They were all interrogated, given type B amnesiacs, and released.
Experiment 1 - 05/06/2015
Subject: Replicate SCP-XXXX's dimensional travel effects
Procedure: A wooden boat manned by a class D has been placed in the Acheron River at 12 PM.
Class D has been instructed to row from one end of the river to the other.
Results: The Class D followed the instructions and rowed from one end of the river to the other, no change was reported by the Class D and it returned without incident.
Analysis: This rules out the possibility that other people could enter SCP-XXXX-C with means other than SCP-XXXX.
Experiment 2 - 06/06/2015
Subject: Use SCP-XXXX's boat and test if the dimensional travel effect can be replicated.
Procedure: SCP-XXXX was removed from its boat by class D personnel2. and guarded by 2 foundation guards.
A class D subject was instructed to sit in SCP-XXXX's boat and row from one end of the river to the other.
Results: The Class D followed the instructions and rowed from one end of the river to the other, no change was reported by the Class D and it returned without incident.
Analysis: This experiment confirms that SCP-XXXX is the one who has the capacity for dimensional travel and not its boat.
Addendum 1: SCP-XXXX has been requested to use another type of boat or speedboat to make the trip faster, SCP-XXXX has rejected this request saying "This old ship has been with me for a long time, it would be an insult to replace it. "
Exploration Log:For 2 days there was no sign of SCP-XXXX or both of the missing class D.
On Monday 11, May, 2015, SCP-XXXX's boat was found without any crew. The only thing on top of the boat was the camera carried by the Class D personnel.
The boat was transferred to the non-anomalous object storage of Site-77
SCP-XXXX's empty boat
Addendum 2: An investigation into possible previous encounters with SCP-XXXX led to the conclusion that SCP-XXXX is or at least resembles Charon, a Greek mythological figure who carried the souls of the dead through the river acheron. Although there are some things that do not coincide, such as the coin of payment that was asked of the living was an olive gold crown, souls that were at the bottom of the river acheron or the souls of deceased heroes roamed the place.
Update 06/11/2018: SCP-XXXX was found at 12 pm swimming towards the banks of the Acheron river.
SCP-XXXX was provided with a towel to dry off and dry clothing.
Interview:
Interviewed: SCP-XXXX
Interviewer: Investigator ████
Foreword: The interview was translated by members of the foundation's translation team.
<Begin Log>
Investigator ████: Well SCP-XXXX, what made you change your mind and accept this interview?
SCP-XXXX: I only do it so that you understand why I will never take one of you in my boat again
Investigator ████: Please continue
SCP-XXXX: Do you know what place that is?
It's the domain of fucking Hades.
I thought you were going to remember the past and never get closer than you should.
But no, you guys go and infiltrate the fucking court of the dead.
You did not even hide well! You put yourself well in front to have the best view without any fear. Amazing.
What did that cause?
My second imprisonment in hell.
Trust me it's not a good place to be
Those 2 that you sent with me died after 3 days or pure agony.
I served my sentence, I came out of the underworld and now I can go back to doing my job.
Just with a small change: I WILL NOT TAKE ANY OF YOU ALIVE BECAUSE I DO NOT WANT TO SPEND 1 MINUTE STEPPING ON THAT PLACE AGAIN.
<End Log>
Closing Statement: After the interview ended SCP-XXXX continued to insult the investigator in ancient Greek for several minutes, even after he left the scene.
After this SCP-XXXX asked for his boat to be returned immediately.
