Item #: SCP-XXXX

Illustration of SCP-XXXX by D-22481.

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures
{to be written}

Description: SCP-XXXX is a 23 cm x 23 cm x 23 cm cube of unknown composite alloy. The external surface of item SCP-XXXX consists of a variety random geometric patterns covered in engravings that date to around 600 BCE and appear Babylonian in style. There are no confirmed translations for the aforementioned inscriptions due to containment procedures forbidding the observations necessary. However, a possible list of translations has been proposed by a D-Class personnel and is undergoing review by the tertiary research team of Area 19. Further testing will be required to accurately determine the physical appearance of SCP-XXXX.

The anomalous properties of SCP-XXXX are both numerous and hazardous. Many of the possible effects of SCP-XXXX have not yet been confirmed, and until a research team is available to verify further effects, only 4 anomalous properties have been fully established. Firstly, and most prominently, SCP-XXXX projects some form of “temporal bubble”, which, for as of yet unexplained reasons, reduces the flow of time based upon the distance to SCP-XXXX’s true center.1 Within 200 meters of SCP-XXX, these effects become perceptible, with individuals acting at a noticeably slower pace. Within 100 meters of SCP-XXXX, the speed of time is approximately ½ of the norm. Within 30 meters of SCP-XXXX, time flows at ⅕ of the normal speed. There are no significant intervals of decrease beyond 30 meters of SCP-XXXX. When in the bubble, an individual’s perception of time will quicken in response to the conditions, making the only possible manner of observing the effects of SCP-XXXX through viewing something that occurs at a sufficient distance away from the observer’s position. I.E.: If someone 30 meters away from SCP-XXXX viewed someone at 100 meters away from SCP-XXXX, the individual 100 meters away would appear to be moving significantly faster than their actual speed. By contrast, if the person 100 meters away were to view the individual 30 meters away, they would appear significantly slower. If the observers were both 50 meters from SCP-XXXX, they would seem to move at a normal pace to each other.

If an individual directly views SCP-XXXX, they will express the desire to release SCP-XXXX from containment so as to open it and purview its contents. This desire is expressed by the individual requesting permission to acquire SCP-XXXX. If the individual is denied access, they will ask again after an undefined amount of time.2 This effect does not demonstrate any significant threat to SCP-XXXX's containment, as their desire is more akin to simple fascination as opposed to a cognitohazard. Additionally, the individual will gain a significant improvement to cognitive function, which is demonstrated through the utilization higher level vocabulary, the ability to mentally solve complex mathematical equations, and a refined mastery of artistic ability. (See Addendum 01-A)

If an individual comes within 10 meters of SCP-XXXX, regardless of any obstruction, the individual will enter a hysterical state and begin to exclaim lines from an as-of-yet unidentified poem. (This individual will be henceforth referred to as XXXX-2) XXXX-2 will also attempt to remove SCP-XXXX from its containment in order to access it. (See Addendum 02-A) XXXX-2 is entirely unreceptive to commands once in its hysterical state, and will only alter in behavior once it manages to procure SCP-XXXX.3

The last and arguably the most dangerous attribute of SCP-XXXX, is when SCP-XXXX comes into physical contact with XXXX-2 (See incident-01A)

Secondary containment box is lifted from SCP-XXXX, allowing D-XXXXX to view SCP-XXXX directly. D-XXXXX freezes for 4 seconds, before professing an interest in the cube. D-XXXXX begins to utilize a refined vocabulary, which was peculiar given that D-XXXXX had not attended any form of college, and in fact dropped out of secondary school. D-XXXXX requests permission to access SCP-XXXX, and is promptly denied and ordered to illustrate SCP-XXXX with the utensils provided. Over a period of 10 minutes (Calculated to be perceived as 3 minutes at D-XXXXX’s location), D-XXXXX manages to draw a realistic depiction of SCP-XXXX’s appearance. The quality of D-XXXXX’s artwork was visually appealing, though upon questioning of his skill, D-XXXXX states that he rarely partook in such a hobby during his incarceration. The most notable feature of the illustration, however, was that the drawing depicted SCP-XXXX as being open. D-XXXXX is then questioned as to if he is capable of reading and translating SCP-XXXX’s engravings. D-XXXXX would then answer in affirmation before reading aloud in English the translation. {translation to be written} Upon finishing, D-XXXXX would again request access to SCP-XXXX. After being denied, D-XXXXX was ordered to the containment entry point. The secondary containment box was re-lowered and the containment door was sealed. Two standard intelligence quotient tests were performed upon D-XXXXX, one an hour after testing, and one 24 hours after testing. First Intelligence quotient test yielded a value of 178, the second yielded a value of 84.

Concept: A functioning Medieval house, in a castle somewhere in a remote location in europe. Except all people are replaced with hostile tree monsters. Status in the house results in scarier, more dangerous tree monsters. Queen/King has "briarheart", which, can render the house dormant for some time if destroyed. If queen/king is under containment, tree monsters (generally at the status of soldier to knight) of unknown origin will begin to siege the facility with siege weapons typical of the 15th century medieval era, though composed of bone. (or maybe tree matter, haven't decided yet.)
