Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures:
Physical contact with SCP-XXXX is prohibited outside of transportation/testing purposes.
Only D class personnel are permitted to touch the SCP when handling is necessary.
The door of the containment room is to, at all times, remain deadlocked.
The SCP itself is to be kept inside a glass casing.
Description:
SCP-XXXX is a ship in a bottle. However, the ship, sails and the pirates are real and judging by the size of the miniature people trapped on board, the ship can hold up to 80 people with 12 currently on the ship. After tests, it was concluded that the pirates onboard the ship are completely unaware of the fact that they are trapped inside a glass bottle. Also, it seems that the people onboard have no memory of their past lives before being trapped on the ship.
They also seemed to be completely uninterested of the world around them, repeating the same pattern of jobs every day while, never showing any evidence of above animal intelligence.
When a person makes contact with SCP-XXXX for longer than 10 minutes, the subject will be immediately transported inside of SCP-XXXX. SCP-XXXX will then appear at the nearest stable location. After that, the person can be seen inside the bottle among the other pirates and making no signs of being aware of previously being outside of the bottle. It also draws people towards itself and creating an undeniable urge to inspect and hold the item.
During observation, a fight broke out among crewmates on the ship. After the fight, there were no signs of physical injuries sustained by anyone involved. This may indicate that the people on the ship are immortal or have heightened defensive capabilities.
When attempting to carbon date the object, the results varied between 10-400 years.
All attempts to open the bottle have been unsuccessful although researchers believe the bottle is breakable. However, this remains untested. As for what would happen upon breaking is unknown. The most supported theory among researchers of the project is that the inhabitants and world would die.
Discovery:
It was first found in London when the police received a call from a terrified daughter screaming about how she saw her father vanish inside the bottle. After the police arrived at the scene, no one was home which left them puzzled, so fearing the worst they broke inside the home to see the was bottle alone and inhabited by tiny, living people and they understood they were out of their depth, so they immediately reported it to the SCP Foundation and we arrived within the hour to collect the item.
Addendum:
The SCP has raised many ethical questions. Some of the scientists who worked on the bottle believed that it should be broken, killing the people who are trapped inside. They stated that it was inhumane to leave the men and women upon the ship to sail and suffer for eternity.
While other scientists believed that since they were unaware of their current situation, killing them would be unethical, especially because the Motto of the foundation is secure contain protect.
Footnote:
The ship and it’s inhabitant's inability to recognize their existence inside of a bottle got some of the scientists on the project pondering if the human race is trapped inside a universe-sized bottle unable to see who/what might be looking down on them from the outside.
