Item #: SCP-3724
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: Site-3724 must be staffed by four armed guards. Two off-site snipers are stationed on the rooftops of nearby buildings for cases of a breach in containment. Site-3724 is bordered by fences with barbed wire and signs designating the area as restricted. As such guards and snipers will respond to all unauthorized attempts to access the structure at Site-3724 with one warning shot. Continued attempts will be met with lethal force. One on-site director must be present at all times, hereby designated Director 3724, as well as an off-site replacement director for emergency cases. All Foundation personnel transferred from Site-3724 must be given amnestics to prevent the declassification of the site’s location. The class of these amnestics will be decided on a case-by-case basis.
As of ██/██/2004, the structure at Site-3724 is completely sealed. It must be constantly surveyed by Director 3724 or approved staff for damage. All damage detected must be reported immediately, at which point the on-site director will organize repairs as needed to maintain the building’s structural integrity.
All information regarding the nature of SCP-3724 is to be restricted to Foundation staff of Level 4 or higher clearance. Any exception to this rule must be the decision of Director 3724. All staff below the specified clearance level who are transferred to Site-3724 must be informed that unauthorized contact with the structure is grounds for immediate on-site termination. Upon detecting a breach of the structure, the off-site snipers will be instructed to terminate all on-site staff before contacting the off-site replacement director. Protocol S-3724-BR will be initiated.
Should other instances of SCP-3724 ever be discovered, or should the current instance ever breach containment fully, all Foundation locations housing Class-D personnel are to initiate Protocol 3724-D-Blackout.
Description: SCP-3724 is an as of yet undetectable entity capable of being any artificial structure, defined by at least four walls and a ceiling, however it is only able to be one building at a time. The anomaly can only transfer between buildings through SCP-3724-1 entities.
SCP-3724 is currently a foundation-built structure the size of a small house, located [REDACTED]. It is a completely sealed cube with a pyramid-shaped roof to deflect rainfall. The floor and walls are constructed out of a single mass of concrete and the roof is an angled sheet of insulated 20mm steel. It is connected to the concrete with multiple industrial and classified adhesives to ensure it remains sealed. See Log C-3724 for discovery and containment attempts.
All humans who enter SCP-3724 are subjected to anomalous infection and are to be immediately classified as SCP-3724-1 entities. If an instance of SCP-3724-1 enters any structure, for as long as SCP-3724-1 remains inside, the building is capable of becoming SCP-3724.
There is no known way to detect a difference between an SCP-3724-1 entity and an unaffected human until in the presence of Class-D personnel. When Class-D personnel come within eyesight are detected in any way by SCP-3724-1, the entity’s mouth will stretch open vertically, approximately nine times the normal gape, and widen until the entire face is no longer visible. The interior of the mouth and throat will visibly blur and darken when viewed. It will then reach its arms out in the direction of the detected Class-D and run towards it. Upon physical contact with SCP-3724-1, the Class-D will be absorbed into the mouth of the entity in no more than one half second, after which the entity’s face will return to its normal state, and it will have no memory of the event. The whereabouts of the consumed personnel are unknown. SCP-3724-1 entities have no other known targets, and seem to prey specifically on Class-D personnel of the Foundation. SCP-3724-1’s predatory behavior has been observed both inside and outside of SCP-3724, and there is no known way to remove the anomalous infection without terminating the host.
Addendum-1: The nature of SCP-3724 has generated proposals by several different Foundation members involved in its containment that the existence of this anomaly is a direct attack on the Foundation itself. Due to the lack of data, the proposals are still under review, however it is certain that SCP-3724 poses an undeniable threat to the ability of the foundation to learn about and contain unexplained and dangerous anomalies, and has been made a priority to permanently contain. A breach in containment has a high chance of repeating the massive loss of Foundation personnel life experienced during its discovery.
Addendum-2: The ██/██/2005 proposal to reclassify SCP-3724 as Euclid from Keter has been approved due to the evidence supporting the theory that there are no remaining SCP-3724-1 entities.
SUPERFLUOUS EVENTS EXPUNGED
Transcript of security footage from █████████ Foundation Complex on ██/██/1992:
Foundation staff can be seen interacting with Class-D personnel nearby the western holding cells.
All staff members undergo transformation, with mouths elongating and widening.
Class-D personnel show immense distress for three seconds before they are consumed by the transformed staff.
The Foundation staff's faces normalize and they begin to question their surroundings. One researcher appears to look at the closed doors of the Class-D holding cells, before stating: "Well that's that. Easier than it usually is."
End of transcript.
Later interviews revealed that the staff involved believed that they had re-contained all Class-D in their cells, and as such did not investigate further.
18 hours of security footage past the initial event has been stored to the database.
Note by Dr. D██████: How on earth did not a singe one of you notice this taking place for an entire 18 hours? It took the memetics specialist to finally figure out that chunks of her memory were missing, for Christ's sake!
Dialogue recording from the ███████████ Foundation Housing on ██/██/1993:
Dr. ███████ (yelling): "The security footage says I ate a guy! What the hell! Do they expect me to-"
Security Officer █████: "Don't deny the footage. I ate someone, too. Everyone here has eaten someone. Why do you think we're being kept here?"
Dr. ███████: "I'm not just going to stand here and take it! I have important work to do. Besides, what the fuck are they thinking locking us all up in here? What's stopping us from eating-"
Dr. ███████ cuts himself off and displays audible distress.
Dr. ███████: "Oh fuck this is a test. The bastards are using us to figure out why we're eating people. Oh God I just got promoted, I don't want to die like this!"
███████████ Foundation Housing speaker systems activate: "Remain calm. Further distress will warrant termination. Foundation personnel are securing the █████████ Complex, and all staff stationed there are to be remotely interviewed from this location starting tomorrow. All testing procedures regarding this matter will also be conducted remotely. No person within this housing structure is to exit under any circumstances. You will be terminated by sniper fire."
Dr. ███████: "Termination? I'm a researcher with Level 2 security clearance! What the fuck is going on?"
Security Officer █████: "Just do as they say and stay calm. Whatever we're dealing with, the lab rats will figure it out. We'll all be back to work by next week and whatever this is will be rotting in a cell. For now, just enjoy your paid vacation."
End of recording.
Excerpts from Dr. D██████'s private research log, ██/██/1995-██/██/1997:
So this thing, whatever in God's name it is, only eats Class-D's. We tested it. Again and again, trying to figure out why our own people are eating others without their own knowing. It doesn't even eat criminals. We tried that. It waits until the paperwork is done for assignment to Class-D personnel.
We had a fellow researcher volunteer to demote himself to Class-D. Just to try it out, it was his idea actually. I think the poor soul thought that it wouldn't count and he'd be fine. His own brother in the security unit ate him right then and there. Not a millisecond after he was done signing, the officer's helmet popped off and he ate his brother. When he was done, he began asking when his brother was going to show up for work. He wasn't even assigned to watch, he was just patrolling nearby, and I guess he saw his brother signing the papers.
[DATA EXPUNGED] I want this thing contained as soon as possible.
I was one day late. I was one God forsaken day late. I figured out how this thing moves. See, the Foundation keeps records of staff who are transferred between locations, and since it was the staff that were eating people, I thought it best to check it out. First it was the █████████ Complex that got locked down. Then it was the ███████████ ███████. Et cetera, et cetera. But they all happened mostly one after the other. The demons only started eating people in facilities after we had transferred staff to them from a previous facility. And I… I figured this out only a day after we had moved researchers from a facility under lockdown to… to a Class-D orientation building nearby. By the time I had gotten approval to request a task force to be sent, the building was empty, aside from the researchers we sent. Myself and a few colleagues will be reviewing security footage again.
Nothing too remarkable in the security footage. Well, nothing that helps us contain the thing. God forbid. Just a lot of lost Class-D's. They didn't even get their first assignments. One group thought it best to hide away when the chaos started. Footage shows that the staff, who had now normalized, couldn't see them in the slightest. Then one Class-D had accidentally kicked a clipboard that had fallen on the floor. The noise was barely audible to the camera, and presumably the researchers in the now-empty room would've just passed it off as background noise. But in the span of a measured 0.03 seconds, they began transforming, and then charged at the Class-D's. They were completely out of sight of each other, but somehow the demon knew. One of them… God, I'm re-watching the tapes right now just so I know what I'm writing about. One of them huddled in a corner upon the staff's approach. One of them tried to fight back, but the moment her fist made contact with its shoulder she was sucked into its mouth.
More testing was done. God forbid we figure anything out. Every time we test this thing, we lose up to [DATA EXPUNGED].
So. I think we nailed it. After months of making sure we know what we're dealing with, after years of this plaguing us, and this is all that we have to show for it. It's this simple. It exists in buildings. But only one at a time, as far as we can tell. We had to get a new batch of subjects for this. Everyone that had been previously contaminated would ruin the control. It seems to only be able to move through the people that it… uses. But the people it uses, they stay that way no matter where they are. I saw footage of two groups of personnel cross paths out in the field. One group immediately attacked the Class-D's in the other. Before the unaffected security in the area could terminate the attackers, all the Class-D's were gone.
We've not been spending researcher lives on these tests lately. We've been keeping them far, far away from all the known affected buildings just in case this thing is there. We still have our Class-D's, obviously, but for the part of the God damned monsters we went and took [DATA EXPUNGED]. But their lives are not lost in vain. I think I know how to contain this now.
End of log.
Note from █████████: This is the lowest we've ever been on Class-D personnel. This is… this is going to create a scenario where we'll actually need Protocol 12 if we're not careful. Hell, now that I think about it, we've already [DATA EXPUNGED]. I'm glad we finally have a plan to end this shit.
Formal letter of resignation from Dr. D██████, ██/██/2003:
Greetings, my fellow Foundation peers. It is with great regret that I inform you I will no longer be working alongside you. As you may all have known, there has been a lot of rumors regarding the massive amount of resource relocation within Foundation facilities over the past decade. I can assure you that we have everything under control now, and that even though I will no longer be here, I can confirm that I will be leaving you all in good hands. I hope to God that you all will continue your hard work at protecting the innocent lives outside of this organization. Thank you all for your service to the good of humanity.
Transcript of video recording at Site 3724 on ██/██/2004:
One human, previously known as D-924576, approaches the structure at Site-3724. Records indicate that he has been promoted to Class-C, and was subjected to the anomalous effects of the entity.
Visuals indicate the presence of a Class-D personnel inside the building.
Upon spotting the Class-D, the Class-C immediately begins transformation, then charges at the building. Nearby armed personnel take aim, but do not fire.
//When the Class-C has entered the structure and consumed the Class-D, the armed personnel open fire, terminating the Class-C.
//Approximately one hour has passed.
A Foundation vehicle approaches the site. One human with clearly visible Foundation researcher attire exits the vehicle approaches the structure. His face has been censored on every frame and records of his involvement were expunged. He carries cleaning equipment and a body bag.
The researcher is seen cleaning the blood from inside the building and storing the deceased personnel in the bag. He then carries out all the equipment and the body bag and leaves them outside the building.
One Class-D is seen exiting the vehicle, upon which time the researcher immediately transforms, confirming that the anomaly has relocated to Site-3724. The researcher is terminated before he could make contact with the Class-D.
The Class-D is seen approaching the vehicle before the tape ends. Records indicate the Class-D was ordered to retrieve equipment to seal off the building to prevent further access.
End of recording.
Dr. D██████ has been pronounced dead on ██/██/2004, and the anomalous entity now known as SCP-3724 has likewise been contained. The late researcher and his coworkers authored specific Special Containment Procedures in the hopes that SCP-3724 may never again threaten Foundation stability. The identities of his coworkers are classified, and they have all been treated with Class-A amnestics as per Dr. D██████'s order.
Protocol 12 was never initiated.
