Attached below are a series of one-to-one interviews involving one D-Class personnel infected by SCP-XXXX. After the interview regarding the β Stage of infection, it is theorized that SCP-XXXX-1 possesses a certain degree of sentience. Hence, these aim to determine its motive.

Interview Log 1

Interviewed: D-3490
Interviewer: Lead Researcher Dr. Benedict Reeves
Foreword: D-3490 was interviewed first after transitioning into the β Stage.

<Begin Log, 11.42AM>

Dr. Reeves: Good morning, D-3490. We have decided to hold a rather… special interview after we have noticed a peculiar observation back at the cell with those two gentlemen.

[D-3490 grits his teeth.]

D-3490: The hell do you want?

Dr. Reeves: I would like you to tell me about this… 'Alpha' you mentioned.

[Perspiration begins to trickle down D-3490's head. He begins to shiver involuntarily.]

D-3490: W-what more do you want? I told you their name. That's all. You know what? F-fuck it. Forget what you heard and saw back there.

Dr. Reeves: I'm afraid I can't do that.

D-3490: I-I can't do this anymore.

Dr. Reeves: D-3490-

[D-3490's eyes widen, and suddenly flails from his seat, hastily backing up against the wall, away from Dr. Reeves.]

D-3490: No, no. Get it-GET IT AWAY FROM ME. BACK OFF!

[D-3490 begins to cry and hyperventilate, while in a fetal position.]

D-3490: I-I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I-I'll listen to you. I promise. I promise. Please. Please. Please.

<End Log, 11.47AM>

Closing statement: The interview was concluded after attempts to persuade D-3490 to continue failed.

Interview Log 2

Interviewed: D-2945
Interviewer: Lead Researcher Dr. Benedict Reeves
Foreword: After D-2945 has transitioned to the β Stage, he was interviewed after D-3490.

<Begin Log, 12.12PM>

Dr. Reeves: I assume your friend has told you about what he was interviewed for?

D-2945: Oh, uh, that guy? Fucking nasty. Lashed out at me and curled up in a god damn ball, crying and everything. Should've listened to them.

Dr. Reeves: Wait, are you saying that SC- I mean, 'The Alpha', did something to him?

D-2945: Oh. Yeah, most likely.

Dr. Reeves: What did they do?

[D-2945 stares to his right.]

D-2945: [unintelligible]

[D-2945 looks at Dr. Reeves.]

D-2945: Punish.

Dr. Reeves: Were you speaking with them just now?

D-2945: Erm… yes. They allowed me to speak.

Dr. Reeves: That means in the event where you do not seek permission…

D-2945: Punishment.

Dr. Reeves: In what way did they punish? Psychological? Physical?

D-2945: …more like both.

Dr. Reeves: But it seemed D-3490 was fine from the outside.

D-2945: Yeah, but, well, you see, we are all kinda exposed to our own… phobias. Which seemed… too real. So real that we could sense pain.

Dr. Reeves: Did they materialize these phobias out of their own will, or did they occur in a way that the event could have been viewed as a coincidence?

D-2945: Likely the former. At first, they seemed… nice. But they spoke in such a cryptic way. To sum it up, they were trynna persuade me to eat more, saying this 'simple yet pivotal gesture' can complete the process in which I would be 'purged of my sin'. They also spoke in perfect American English. Caught me off guard. Sounded like I was having a conversation with a weird middle-aged professor with a PhD in philosophy. Of course, I didn't listen, sensing bullshit. Aaaaand that's when shit hit the fan.

Dr. Reeves: How did that unfold?

D-2945: After I resisted, they went away. In fact, everyone in the room disappeared. Then, the ground in front of me literally gave way, like I was in some… Hollywood natural disaster movie or something! [D-2945's face scrunches up.] Millions of roaches and worms and all kinds of six-legged freaks poured out from there and were heading towards my way. I was freaking out, with them crawling up my legs, my arms, and into my mouth, my nostrils, my eyes, my ears. I could feel them tearing through my stomach, my throat, my intestines. The pain was exacting and excruciating. I cried out for mercy. Then I heard their voice. Saying something like, "If you disobey me, you see your worst fears.", et cetera, et cetera. After that, the pain disappeared.

Dr. Reeves: So that explains why all of you were whimpering for help back at the cell, I see.

D-2945: I would've phrased it better, but yeah. I was. We all were.

Dr. Reeves: How about you and D-2105 acting in unison? The timing between words was nearly identical to one person speaking it out loud. That would be… rather extremely difficult to pull off if that was an impromptu act.

D-2945: At times, they would tell me this and that, and order me to relay them to you.

Dr. Reeves: So you had full autonomous control over your thoughts?

D-2945: Yep. Just that if I disobeyed them, well, you know what happens.

Dr. Reeves: Hmm. This interview generated a lot more insight. Thank you.

<End Log, 12.31PM>

Closing statement: No other abnormal events occurred.

Interview Log 3

Interviewed: D-2105
Interviewer: Lead Researcher Dr. Reeves
Foreword: After D-2105 has transitioned to β Stage, he was interviewed after D-2945. Any delay regarding D-2105 translating German to English has been omitted for simplification.

<Begin Log, 11.50AM>

Dr. Reeves: Have a seat, D-2105.

Dr. Reeves: It has come to our notice that you have spoken of a name. A name called, 'The Alpha'.

D-2105: Yes.

Dr. Reeves: Care to explain?

[D-2105 displays signs of heightened nervousness.]

D-2105: Erm… alright-

[D-2105 suddenly ceases motion for 13 seconds.]

Dr. Reeves: D-2105?

D-2105: Wait, The Alpha wishes to speak to you, actually. It may take a while for me to translate to English as they speak to me in German.

Dr. Reeves: …of course.

[D-2105 remains motionless for 9 seconds, before continuing.]

D-2105: Greetings, doctor.

Dr. Reeves: Are you 'The Alpha'?

D-2105: You may call me that.

Dr. Reeves: May I ask how do you present yourself to this person?

D-2105: All the prophets1 see a light. A light that reflects off a shadow. A shadow that knows, through the eye. The eye that is a hole, yet tangible. I have borrowed the fundamental blocks that make up a body of your kind. The prophets are gifted. Gifted with the knowledge of the root.

Dr. Reeves: What is this 'root'?

D-2105: The epicenter of all the calamities wrought upon this land. Your species. They have built machines. Machines that help them but doom Gaia to the pits of Hell. The sphere of life is blocked by plumes of dark smoke. So thick and murky, its magnificent rays cannot shine hope on the land below. Your kind engages in needless battles. Your leaders are only bringing the end closer to Man with childish claims and unfulfilled promises. Gaia had forgiven them so, so many times. Believing they would confess to their sins.

Dr. Reeves: I would disagree. It's not necessarily true that our kind exterminates life on Earth just for our own benefit. A lot of us have succeeded in changing our ways. With this in mind, I believe that Earth, or Gaia, as you call it, is not bound to an end that results in destruction.

D-2105: The enlightened speaks of a claim. A claim that is true. Yet, Gaia would shake her head in resignment. Some have refused to confess. It costs less emotion and effort to commit a sin than confess to one. Therefore, I, The Alpha, must punish the sinned, while the untainted join us. If not, the sinned will corrupt them. There are far too many inhabiting Gaia. Too many. Many untainted, who could potentially be sinned. Renewal is necessary.

Dr. Reeves: So is that why you were created? If so, who is your creator?

D-2105: The creator. Seven seals. Four broken seals. Out comes four horses. Red, black, white and pale. Each has been tasked as harbingers. Harbingers of renewal. Four different tasks, bound by one common aim. Once the sinned have been expelled and the untainted united, the age of renewal begins. An age where Gaia can recover. An age free of sin. An age without you.

Dr. Reeves: May I ask, why are you even telling us all of this? I mean even before this interview, you have spoken information about your abilities, one being that you are able to materialize your host's deepest phobias should they disobey you. How does telling us all this benefit you?

D-2105: I believe that your establishment would be most entertaining to observe. By giving you all of this, you scramble to action. To save your kind. You are only feeding the sinned. In the process, you will fail. Your sins will only accumulate. In the end, your establishment will no longer be an establishment. It will crumble.

<End Log, 12.09PM>

Closing statement: As SCP-XXXX-1 refused to cooperate further, the interview is concluded. All subjects expired after entering the ɣ stage. Testing on SCP-XXXX has been suspended indefinitely.
