Special Containment Procedures: An area within 2 km of SCP-XXXX is to be deemed off-limits to the public. Anyone who hears the melodies played by SCP-XXXX are to be immediately administered Class-B amnestics.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a tower connected to a monastery in Southern France that dates back to 1259. Its primary feature is the mind-altering music that is played autonomously via clockwork and instruments inside the structure. As of yet, Foundation personnel have yet to find a way inside.

Its music (SCP-XXXX-1) affects any sapient creature who hears it. The “beautiful songs” they hear will promote religious thought within thirty seconds of continuous exposure. These thoughts only last as long as the subject is listening. After listening for three minutes, religious persons will see visions of prophets, angels, and deities. Atheists will consider conversion to a World Religion. Effects continue for up to twenty-four hours.

After approximately seven minutes, permanent effects begin to show themselves. Subjects exposed for this long experience some symptoms that are similar to early effects of SCP-2221. Namely, obsessive prayer and religious extremism. Many declare a holy war against all other religions. As it stands, over ███ cases of religion related acts of violence in the area have been attributed to SCP-XXXX and SCP-XXXX-1. Atheists take longer to experience these effects, between ten and fifteen minutes on average.

If a sentient being has been in the presence of SCP-XXXX-1 for over twent1 minutes, regardless of prior beliefs, they will begin rambling about “a world where gravity twists, time starts and stops, and depravity rules above all”. See Test Log 2 for more details.

D-4027: I swear I saw archangel Michael himslf appear out of thin air! "You are a sinner…" he said. "One hundred crimes you openly committed. One thousand you aided in. In bondage you were born, and in shackles you shall perish." I didn't know what to do! He kept coming, prophesying my demise and how I'd be tormented for eternity in the depths of Hell.

Dr. █████: Class-B Amnestics will be administered after you tell us all you know.
D-4027: I think it's one of those things that change your mind in bad ways. What do you call it?
Dr. █████: Cognitohazard.
D-4027: Yeah, that. And it called to my own self-doubts and fears. That's all I know.

Closing Statement: Interesting information has been gathered here, but not enough. D-4027 has been administered Class-B amnestics as promised after a 30-day period without symptoms. The need for further testing becomes increasingly apparent.

In The Trenches - An SCP Tale

On February 23, 1913, disaster struck in Berlin. The largest breach in Foundation history occurred, the causes of which I am not allowed to disclose. Numerous anomalies were lost and panic spread through the Foundation. Every task force in the whole of Eurasia was sent to look for them. As time passed, tension only grew within the Foundation. The Berlin Protocol was put in place, which facilitated the need for inside security and the creation of MTF Epsilon-11 ”Nine Tailed Fox”. I was their first commander.

The first year was little more than training. However, the powderkeg left by the breach in ‘13 blew up in our faces when Germany declared war on Russia and France. Nobody saw it coming. In mere hours, we were sent into Belgium on the Fourth of August. About twenty of us were sat in an abandoned town alongside everyone else from the Foundation. We were special operatives, not soldiers. Too many died in the initial assault. Our fears had been confirmed as balls of light streaked through the sky, landing right in front of us. “Take cover!” Someone yelled.

By then it was already too late. I could feel everything pull towards the Singularity before the entrails of good friends splattered on my face and shrapnel lodged itself in my body. As the dust settled, the Germans came at us. In a blind panic we ran. Wherever we tried to flee, the bombs followed. Many good men were lost in the retreat. We didn’t stop until we reached the lines of trenches along the French border. Quickly we slid into the safety of a French garrison as the bombardment stopped.

My wounds were quickly treated, but I was stuck on the sidelines until they healed. Reinforcements arrived over the next several weeks. By the time we caught sight of the German army, we were well prepared. Several dozen men hid on the town’s outskirts and let out a volley against the advancing forces. Bang, bang, bang. Soon after this a bayonet charge was called. Not a single soul survived. More of those anomalous bombs rained down on us. As soon as the bombardment ended, they flooded the town.

We fought for as long as we could, but it was no use. There were too many of them. Fortunately, this retreat was more successful than in Belgium. We met with British forces along the Marne, and dug lines of trenches
