Item #: SCP-5078

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: [When handling SCP-5078, there must be at least 4 personnel on hand at all times, but under no circumstances may the number cannot exceed eight. In each corner of room ██ of Site ██, a nine square-foot block of dry ice must be placed in alignment with the corners of the room. Once these blocks are securely in place, a fifth block of dry ice must be placed anywhere from four to six feet in any cardinal direction from SCP-5078. With all portions of ice securely in their positions, all personnel must remain in the room for exactly three minutes to observe the potency of the room's temperature shift. Once the temperature on the thermostat that is to be on at all times in SCP-5078's room reaches the reading of ███, all personnel must exit the chamber entirely.]

Description: [SCP-5078, also known by the alias of "Burning Lad", is a humanoid, seemingly male life form hailing from the upper regions of the ██████ Mountains in ██████. Discovered through the tracing of local legends hailing from the villages situated at the base of said mountains, SCP-5078 has been observed to possess the ability to freely increase its body temperature to extreme heights of nearly ███ degrees Fahrenheit. Alongside this, SCP-5078 has also demonstrated the means to, albeit quite inconsistently, alter the humidity of the airspace around himself. As a result, areas in which he has been known to dwell have been rife with a litany of inconsistent temperatures and humidity levels that persist in the wake of his former presence in these areas. Interestingly, it has been discovered through testing that SCP-5078 is completely unable to exercise any control over the humidity around himself or alter his temperature as freely when in the presence of liquid nitrogen in a frozen state. AKA: Dry Ice. As of the date ████, the reasons for this limitation are unknown. ]

Addendum 5078-1: Account of Capture
[Following after a lead given to the SCP Foundation by one Dr.████, Field Agents Lorenzo Smith and Jean Fareman, were deployed out to the country of ████ in order to confirm or deny the validity behind the local legends of the rural mountain villages that repeatedly referenced a "Burning Lad" that could affect the air and temperature around himself. Though initially unsuccessful in their search for a definitive answer, the fourth day of the third week produced results in the form of a direct encounter with SCP-5078. After initial attempts to communicate and reason with SCP-5078 failed, Field Agents Smith and Fareman resorted to the application of force. After severely impairing the target's mobility with a gunshot to its left leg, Agent Faremen was killed in retaliation by SCP-5078 via suffocation initiated by a massive increase in air humidity around SCP-5078. Despite the slaying of his partner, Agent Smith was able to render SCP-5078 unconscious with a blow to the back of the target's head by the handle of his gun. Once apprehended, SCP-5078 was airlifted from the mountains to Site ██.]

Footnotes:
1. SCP-5078's only known surefire counter is currently limited to Dry Ice, but it has also been observed that anything of extremely low temperature can slow his abilities somewhat, though none have been shown to be as effective as Dry Ice.
2. Though generally quite docile when left to himself, SCP-5078 has shown itself to be far more hostile during the winter months of the year despite his containment room being completely consistent in terms of conditions year-round.
