Object Class: Euclid Security Clearance Required: Level 4
Potential Threat Level: MK-Class Scenario To be neutralized on order of O5-██

Special Containment Procedures

SCP-[UNASSIGNED] is currently kept within a 4m x 4m x 4m opaque container in Site-██. The outer area of the containment cell is to be made entirely of lead. The door to SCP-[UNASSIGNED]'s inner containment cell is to be airtight sealed at all times unless in emergency or under direction instruction from O5-██. In the event that SCP-[UNASSIGNED] has direct contact with the floor, the site must go on complete lockdown.

Under no circumstances are reflective surfaces to be brought into either the outer area or the containment cell of SCP-[UNASSIGNED].

Any and all containment procedure changes must go through O5-██ (see Testing Log [UNASSIGNED]-Ω)

Description

RQ2102.jpg

An image of SCP-[UNASSIGNED].

SCP-[UNASSIGNED] is a Panasonic RQ-2102 Cassette Tape Recorder. Due to SCP-[UNASSIGNED]'s many anomalous effects and phenomena, they have been placed into categories: "Passive" and "Activated". SCP-[UNASSIGNED]'s passive effects are as follows:

  • SCP-[UNASSIGNED]'s cartridge will not open by any force known to the foundation.
  • SCP-[UNASSIGNED] appears to be completely indestructible.
  • SCP-[UNASSIGNED] has no need to be rewound. Pressing the play button simply repeats whatever audio file SCP-[UNASSIGNED] currently has stored.
  • SCP-[UNASSIGNED] can float and move at will, and cannot be stopped. If SCP-[UNASSIGNED]'s path is interrupted, it will simply move to the side and continue to where it wants to go.

SCP-[UNASSIGNED]'s secondary effect is a wave that surrounds it. It appears to have the same basic properties as electromagnetic waves, but it travels slower than the speed of light. It is theorized that this wave is what allows SCP-[UNASSIGNED] to float. Further research into this wave shows that the waves seem to bend into the shape of a human being, approximately 2m tall, and SCP-[UNASSIGNED] hovers where the human heart would be. The electromagnetic force has shown no signs of being sentient, though does have basic awareness. This wave will now be referred to as SCP-[UNASSIGNED]-A.

As for SCP-[UNASSIGNED]'s activated effects, it is unknown if we have discovered all of them. SCP-[UNASSIGNED]'s activated effects manifest when the buttons on SCP-[UNASSIGNED] are pressed in a certain order, and then no activity is enacted on SCP-[UNASSIGNED] for approximately 5 seconds. It should be noted that if 4 buttons are pressed within 5 seconds of eachother, the device will beep. We believe this to be the device "resetting" the buttons pressed. SCP-[UNASSIGNED] active effects include:

  • Transmutation
  • Teleportation (of self and others)
  • Telepathy
  • Transmogrification
  • Radiation emission
  • Amnesia Inducement
  • Spontaneous Combustion
  • Hallucination Inducement

SCP-[UNASSIGNED]'s original audio was originally a young girl saying "Look at all the pretty colors". It has since changed to the audio of an unknown man saying "Oh no" (see Testing Log [UNASSIGNED]-W).

Testing Logs

[UNASSIGNED]-G

Test Subject: D-27483

Test Conducted: Subject to press the "play" button, followed by the "stop" button.

Results: Audio started after the first button was pressed. After the second button was pressed, audio stopped immediately. After 4.8 seconds, D-27483 reported hearing a faint, high pitch ringing noise. After 14 minutes, the ringing had stopped.

[UNASSIGNED]-J

Test Subject: D-27483

Test Conducted: Subject to press the "record" button, scream, and then within 5 seconds, pressing the "play" button.

Results: The original audio "Look at all the pretty colors" has now been replaced by D-27483's scream. No anomalous effects emerged in the usual 5 seconds of impact. Once D-27483 had left the containment cell, he yelled "Shut the [EXPLETIVE] up, please!" seemingly towards the entity. SCP-[UNASSIGNED] was silent. D-27483 reported hearing the original audio of SCP-[UNASSIGNED] on random occasion for approximately 2 weeks after this test. After these 2 weeks, D-27483 reported no further sound.

Notes: As formal manager of this entity, D-27483 is relieved from testing duty on SCP-[UNASSIGNED]. ~Dr. Zophany.

[UNASSIGNED]-M

Test Subject: D-74635

Test Conducted: Subject to press the "fast forward" button 3 times in quick succession.

Results: No audio effect. After 5 seconds, D-74635 disappeared. MTF Squad Sierra-13 were appointed the duty of searching for the subject. After 2 months, D-74635's head was found atop a Site-██ satellite dish.

[UNASSIGNED]-P

Test Subject: D-82643

Test Conducted: Subject to press the "stop" button twice, followed by the "rewind" button.

Results: No audio effect. After 5 seconds, D-82643 screamed in shock as, according to her, the tape recorder was replaced by a "skinny man." After being asked for a description, she said that the man was "tall, mid 50's". Almost immediately after, D-82643 mentioned that the man was speaking, saying odd phrases such as "free the devil" and "open up my heart". The test was halted. D-82643 was escorted out of the containment cell and administered Class-B amnestics. D-82643 still reports voices in her head that say similar things to the tall elderly man.

[UNASSIGNED]-W

Test Subject: D-72849

Test Conducted: Subject to press the "record" button, make any random noise, and then wait for 5 seconds. Subject is then instructed to press the "stop" button, and wait another 5 seconds. Subject is then instructed to press the "play", "rewind", and "fast forward" buttons within 5 seconds of each other.

Results: [REDACTED UNDER ORDThis one was way too good to leave out! Let me see if I can find the official document for you…

Once the play button is pressed, D-72849's noises play for a short time until "fast forward" is pressed, where all audio stops entirely (this includes the audio recording the test chamber). Guards report feeling like they had gone deaf. After 5 seconds of silence, audio of a man saying "Oh no" is heard from SCP-[UNASSIGNED]. SCP-[UNASSIGNED] drops to the ground, and the site is put on lockdown as per protocol pussies. D-72849 begins to create facial expressions of screaming, but no audio is heard, and D-72849 inevitably dies. A later autopsy reveals D-72849's spine had been entirely replaced by cheddar cheese. Ahahahaha.

1 of the 3 guards in the outer containment area combusts in seconds, and is reduced to ash. Another guard's skin slowly turned green, before equally slowly shrinking in size. After 4 minutes of shrinking, the guard was impossible to be seen. The final guard reported seeing visions of a 2m tall man approaching him. Once the hallucination had reached the guard, the guard collapsed. Once the guard came to, he reported not knowing his own name, or his family. The guard was honorably executed under his own request.

Told you you'd enjoy it, right?

Yours sincerely,
The Black Rook.

[UNASSIGNED]-Ω

Due to the private nature of this test log, it must be in an audible format. An auditory memetic amnesiac will be played at at multiple intervals in this clip. If, however, you are of Level 5 security clearance or above, then you know how to avoid this, and you are permitted to listen to the clip. At the time of this document's display, I have been administered amnestics. ~Dr. Zophany.

Addendums

Addendum-[UNASSIGNED]-01 | Retrieval notes

SCP-[UNASSIGNED] was found in an abandon and forestry-covered home in ███████, England. The tape recorder seemed to be hovering slightly above the bed in the master bedroom of the house. Upon the entrance of the retrieval team, SCP-[UNASSIGNED]-A stood, taking SCP-[UNASSIGNED] with it. It would appear that SCP-[UNASSIGNED]-A attempted to "run" out of the home, before SCP-[UNASSIGNED] was grabbed by a member of the retrieval team with ease. There was no reported struggle from SCP-[UNASSIGNED], and it has therefore been concluded that SCP-[UNASSIGNED]-A has no physical strength.

Addendum-[UNASSIGNED]-02 | SCP-[UNASSIGNED]-A

SCP-[UNASSIGNED]-A is, so far, an enigma unsolved. It has been theorized that it is the "spirit" of the previous owner of the home in electromagnetic form, while others theorized that it was created by SCP-[UNASSIGNED] as a carrier. Why SCP-[UNASSIGNED]-A has the same structure and follows the same physics of the average human being is unknown. SCP-[UNASSIGNED]-A cannot interact with the area around it, but can also not walk through walls due to SCP-[UNASSIGNED].

It should also be noted that SCP-[UNASSIGNED]-A seems to have no control over the tape recorder. Due to the difficulty to conduct research on the specimen that is SCP-[UNASSIGNED]-A, testing on this entity in particular is postponed until more information is collected.
