Recovered Instance of SCP-5942

Item #: SCP-5942

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: Due to the nature of SCP-5942 it is impossible to contain, being that it lacks a physical form and is instead a phenomenon. Any instances of SCP-5942-1 are to be monitored until they expire.

Description: SCP-5942 is a phenomenon involving statues of fast food icon Colonel Sanders. SCP-5942 will manifest whenever a statue of Colonel Sanders is vandalized in some sort of way. Upon which, the person who vandalized it will experience good fortune. However, as the price for this fortune, the host, known as SCP-5942-1, will then be cursed with misfortune for the rest of their life.

The severity of the cases varies among hosts, with some cases it just being their favorite sports team winning or losing, and other times it is life or death. Research indicates that there are no factors behind the severity of an instance. All statues of Colonel Sanders are to be considered instances of SCP-5942, and should be monitored as to prevent the anomalous effect from activating.

Discovery: SCP-5942 was first observed on October 16, 1985 in Osaka, Japan. The exact details involve a statue of Colonel Sanders being thrown off of the Ebisu Bridge after fans of the Hanshin Tigers were unable to find a person to imitate MVP Randy Bass. After the statue was thrown off of the bridge, the Tigers went on to win the Japan Series for their first and as of now only time. Afterwards however, the Tigers would go back to a losing streak for another 18 years. This would spark an urban legend known as the 'Curse of the Colonel'. Researcher Sanders would discover the 'Curse' to be true, after it had piqued their interest. Subsequently, they would win the lottery the next day.

This would be brought to the Foundations attention afterwards, but, likely due to the after effect of SCP-5942, Researcher Sanders would die in a vehicular accident soon after research first began.
