Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX must be contained in a shoebox sealed with duct tape, in Standard Containment Locker #27-47 at Storage Site ██. Level 2 Security clearance or higher is required to access the locker. No additional containment procedures required.

Description: SCP-XXXX is an infohazard carried by a collection of 346 printed photographs, 1568 digital pictures and 32 documentary pages that depict and describe an unidentified object. Upon reading or watching the documents, the subject will identify the object described in them as anomalous and develop an interest in investigating and documenting it.

After approximately a week, the infohazard will extend to any newly written documents about the object, and after 30 to 40 days it becomes permanently attached to them. Only documents that describe the mysterious object carry the effect; documents describing the photos or documents affected by it do not carry the infohazard, nor do those that describe the effect itself. At first, the effects of the infohazard are very mild and barely noticeable, but their strength will grow exponentially the more people are affected and the more documents are added to the corpus. The effect will also grow stronger the more people believe the object depicted to be of importance or dangerous.

It is important to note that, while there is no definitive proof, it is firmly believed that the object depicted in SCP-XXXX doesn’t exist, but is, in fact, part of the effect carried by SCP-XXXX, as investigation about it will always yield contradictions and incongruences. It is believed that the false object exists as a “lure”, a way for the infohazard to extend itself.

Addendum XXXX-1: Discovery

The object was discovered in 5/04/20██ when a shoebox carrying the original 1,914 instances of SCP-XXXX appeared in Junior Researcher H. Ferguson's family home's attic. When questioned about it, Researcher Ferguson said that the attic had been closed shut ever since the death of his grandmother in 2012, when the key to the attic was lost. The photographs were discovered when the Ferguson family found said key in 20██ and started to clean the attic; Junior Researcher Ferguson notified the Foundation as soon as he found the objects. Investigations have revealed nothing about the origins of the pictures or how they got there.

Addendum 2: Incident XXXX-A

In 20/05/20██, an altercation broke out between the members of Research Team XXXX-1, who were arguing about the nature of the object depicted in SCP-XXXX. When SCP-XXXX first fell into the hands of the Foundation, it was supposed that the object depicted was, in fact, real; and Research Team XXXX-1 had been assigned to the object in order to locate and contain it. This investigation resulted in the creation of more documental instances of SCP-XXXX that carry the infohazard. It was during this incident that the infohazardous effect of the photographs was discovered. Below is a record of said investigation and documents.

WARNING: The following documents contain an infohazard. Proceed with care.
