WARNING: RESTRICTED ACCESS
SCP-XXXX
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Gödel (Uncontained)
Containment Procedure: Due to the Foundation no longer posessing SCP-XXXX, containment is not possible. Instead, all efforts must be concerned with preventing SCP-XXXX's unlikely return to Earth, and keeping all details of the Voyager II mission Level 4 classified and misrepresented.
SCP-XXXX is to remain on its current trajectory indefinitely, and no attempts at displacement, rendezvous, or interference of any kind shall be made. Under no circumstances should SCP-XXXX return to Earth.
Scientific and casual discussion of Voyager II should be closely monitored by Foundation operatives, web crawlers, and intelligence assets to ensure a lack of public awareness about the true nature of the mission. Voyager II's radio signature must be imitated by Foundation Satellite RAA-8d851 when needed. RAA-8d85 should maintain its position in Earth's L█ Lagrange point, unless operative requirements prove otherwise. Any requests for scientific data, images, or maneuvers must be handled by the Foundation Department of Disinformation.
Foundation researchers at Site-██ are tasked with determining the existence of any remaining exelectric materials on Earth, be they by natural or artificial discovery. Should any be found, an immediate Level 2 Emergency must be enacted and new containment procedures promptly be put in place. Foundation efforts must focus on understanding the effects of exelectric energy such that the containment procedures can be made satisfactory.
Due to the incident following Γ-1, unless containment necessities prove otherwise, any and all conductive equipment dealing with the (including but not limited to):
- Containment
- Testing
- Transportation
- Monitoring
of electronic anomalies must be grounded at all times with a minimum potential difference of 100GV, produced by a Platinum-100 rated negative voltage generator.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a small barrel-type resistor of unknown origin currently onboard the Voyager II satellite, approximately 123AU from Sol as of 2/15/2020. SCP-XXXX measures 3.1cm in length and a radius of 8.99mm. Last observed, its surface was extremely corroded and patched.
Early testing revealed SCP-XXXX to be the only known example of a material that breaks Gauss' Law of Electric Flux. The net effect of breaking Gauss' Law is that the current exiting SCP-XXXX is greater than the current entering it, essentially creating energy out of nothing. This extra current is created by the spontaneous generation of charge particles (electrons). It is unknown whether the material inside SCP-XXXX or its casing is the source of this anomalous effect.
Post Gamma-1 (or Γ-1) data inadvertently gathered by Dr. ██████ provides a possible explanation for this. His grossly unapproved findings suggest that SCP-XXXX follows what has been termed as the Exelectric Law. The Exelectric Law modifies the first statement of Gauss' Law, which describes how electric flux $\Phi_{E}$ relates to an electric field perpendicular to a surface. SCP-XXXX appears to modify this definition, instead relating $\Phi_{E}$ to an electric field parallel to a surface. Thus, the equation is changed from $\Phi_{E}=\int$$\vec{E}\cdot d\vec{A}$ to $\Phi_{E}=\int$$\vec{E}\times d\vec{A}$. This new definition is part of the Exelectric Theory, currently being developed by Dr. Tetragrammaton.
A Gamma event is when the aforementioned limit is reached, and thus an exelectric equilibrium is sustained. Power mains data collected from Γ-1 reveal that the time between exponential current production and the gamma event is less than 1μs3.
Gamma events constantly release extreme amounts of "exelectric energy." Due to a limitation of data, the only known effects of exelectric energy are:
- Plasmification of air, instantly creating a vacuum
- Generation of extreme electromagnetic potentials in ungrounded conductors(>█ █V)
- Converting ungrounded conductors into exalectric materials
Effects of exelectric energy of living organisms or grounded conductors are unknown. However, the sheer amount of energy released during a Gamma event is enough to vaporize any life forms in the vicinity of one.
Additionally, Gamma events in exalectric materials are visually identified by a dark-black and striated glow.
Because exelectric energy produces extreme electromagnetic potentials, massive currents can be created in ungrounded conductors exposed to it. Due to the conversion of ungrounded conductors to exelectric material, these two effects can combine to create a chain reaction of Gamma events.
History
Dr. Tetragrammaton
SCP-XXXX was discovered on 1977/07/21 by Foundation personnel intercepting a whitepaper sent to Ciencia titled "Rompiendo la Ley de Ohm: Un Contraejemplo" (translation: "Breaking Ohm's Law: A Counterexample"). Mexican field unit Bongo Drek-2 was dispatched to the Polytechnic University of Sinaloa, where they posed as officials from the Academia Mexicana de Ciencias. Professor ████████ willingly gave the Bongo Drek-2 team SCP-XXXX, and was administered a Class-E amnestic. Her research assistant, ███ ██████, was also given a Class-E amnestic.
SCP-XXXX was initially given a "Safe" classification and kept in a standard Minimum-hazard Electronic Anomaly Container (MEAC). Early testing revealed the minor exelectric property of extra current production, leading researches to investigate the possibility of infinite energy production. See Test Log SCP-XXXX-TG-1.
Due to an incorrectly filed Form-04954, Dr. Texagrammaton was unable to source a new power supply. Dr. Texagrammaton faxed the following correspondence to Dr. ██████ at Site-62CC5 on 1977/07/28.
████,
It has occured to me that the a██heads in the treasury can't be bothered with repairing broken equipment. $245 is all it would take… $245! Yet, the Foundation with literally all the funding in the world can't afford to get one, or they can't afford to give some kid a nickel to grab one from the basement. That damn junior researcher I was telling you about broke another power supply. The switch-kiddie thinks he's oh-so-smart by knowing which relay inside a supply controls the overcurrent and which capacitor can ███████████████. [DATA EXPUNGED: MOTHERLY VULGARITY]Look I'm giving you a skip. It doesn't follow Ohm's law, seems to make current out of nothing. Use your NASA toys and figure out what this skip does. Meet me at MIA6 tomorrow at noon in concourse F. I'll give this thing to you.
Best,
Omar
Security footage at Miami International Airport on 1977/07/29 at 12:15PM confirms of the non-formal and unapproved meeting between Dr. Texagrammaton and Sr. Dr. ██████, as well as the subsequent handoff of SCP-XXXX.
Sr. Dr. ██████
Dr. ██████ kept possession of SCP-XXXX unannounced and undocumented to the Foundation, only admitting to his act of deceit after his interrogation as part of the internal investigation, II-77-2.
Testing was resumed on 1977/08/01 by Dr. ██████. SCP-XXXX-TG-2 is the analysis of a partially-burned test log recovered from a typewriter in Site-62CC testing room 4B, presumably typed by Dr. ██████.
Γ-1
On 1977/08/15 at 2:28AM, Dr. ██████ sent the critical amperage of ██A through SCP-XXXX, triggering a gamma event Γ-1. The proceeding burst of exalectric energy destroyed the power supply and electrified all ungrounded conductors attached to it with an extreme combination of voltage and current. Assistant researcher Don Ganelle, manning the power supply control panel and touching one of the metal adjusting knobs, immediately expired from electrocution. The conductors in the power supply and control panel quickly sublimated, either due to the heat generated from gigavolts of potential, or from their conversion to exalectric material. It is not believed that a second gamma event was initiated.
At this point, SCP-XXXX's constant release of exalectric energy was only contained by the Faraday cage and still-functioning negative voltage generator (NVG).
Instead of promptly reporting Γ-1 to the Foundation Department of Emergency Containment (FDEC), Sr. Dr. ██████ acted out of order. He threatened corporate punishment of the engineering wing (4 personnel) of Site-62CC with placing SCP-XXXX inside Voyager II before morning.
Dr. ██████ used inconspicuous engineering modifications to fit the Faraday cage and NVG inside the Voyager II while keeping the cage grounded. The entire apparatus was approximately 75cm3 in volume, which was small enough to fit inside the hydrazine fuel tank of the Voyager 2 satellite. The engineering team cut the 70cm spherical tank in half and placed SCP-XXXX, its Faraday cage, and its NVG inside the newly emptied tank. On reassembly, the team concealed the seam with a handheld Rotary Friction Welder8.
Diode Switcher used to keep power to the NVG uninterrupted. Created using a drawing recovered by II-77-2
Sr. Dr. ██████ used a diode switcher9 to keep the power uninterrupted when transferring the NVG from testing room 4B to the Voyager 2. Internal investigation II-77-2 recovered two 125ft (38.1m) extension cords, a 75mF capacitor, a soldering iron, and circuit schematic on 7x5" (17.78x12.7cm) leaf of notebook paper. The FDI holds that these artifacts were used in the unapproved insertion of SCP-XXXX into the hydrazine tank of Voyager 2. The physical diode switcher itself remains absent, but it is most likely onboard Voyager 2.
SCP-XXXX and its improvised containment cell were successfully placed inside the soon-to-launch Voyager II sometime before 8AM10 1977/08/15.
Voyager II was loaded into its Titan-IIIE rocket around 2:30PM on 1977/08/15. No other notable events occurred between this moment and launch.
Launch
The Titan-IIIE rocket carrying SCP-XXXX (inside Voyager II) at T+39S. The futile SAMAT missile launched to destroy the rocket is clearly visible, approximately 110km away.
At 10:29AM on August 20th, 1977, Voyager II launched from SLC-4111 at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida. All system readings were nominal until approximately T+11S.
When throttle was increased to 100% at T+10.5S, the negative voltage generator was likely disconnected from either the Faraday cage or the power source. Nevertheless, the Faraday cage containing SCP-XXXX became ungrounded, causing it to undergo a Gamma event. In a chain reaction, the rest of the fairing structure also underwent a Gamma event due to its insufficient NVG. The chain reaction was stopped in first stage12 by the voltage sink effect created by the ablative engine bell.
At T+33.4S, a single surface-to-air missile was fired to intercept the Titan-IIIE rocket. This action was undertaken by the Guidance and Procedures Officer ████ ███████, an undercover Foundation operative employed by NASA. At approximately five seconds from impact, the missile's electronic control systems succumbed to the exelectric energy eminating from the Titan, rendering it ineffective.
No additional missiles were launched due to the Titan rocket having a greater velocity exceeding that of extant missile capabilities.
The first stage of the rocket was responsible for its extrasolar orbit injection, and the guidance computer for this maneuver was located here.
with trace elements recovered from exterior rust signaling a past exelectric event (SCP-XXXX-1-0) in La Paz, Mexico. Additionally, radioactive dating places SCP-XXXX-1-0 in the early 1940s. No evidence suggests any exelectric events occurred before 1940.
Last-observed on 1977/08/20, SCP-XXXX was undergoing a Gamma event Γ-1.
