Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a zero-gravity environment at all times, and is kept onboard the Foundation’s orbital research station. For both the subject’s and the researcher’s safety, it is to be kept within a 55cm x 40cm x 25cm polycarbonate box approximately 4mm thick fixed with three holes on both of the smaller sides for food, drink, and air. The inside of each hole should be lined with a small layer of steel to keep the subject from gnawing its way out, and the holes themselves should be roughly one centimeter in diameter including the aforementioned layer of steel. Two of the larger sides adjacent to one another are to be fitted with compacted mulch doused in a special glue containing plant waste such that no mulch will float in the zero-gravity environment. Using the same glue, a small den made of small branches, feathers, and other plant materials is to be attached to the corner of the box between these two sides. The box itself is to be mounted on a wall devoid of any other items within the onboard laboratory by a series of velcro straps. SCP-XXXX is to be fed a diet of small insects and eggs, other rodents smaller than the subject, and assorted berries with all animal matter preferably served while still alive. Its water must also be mixed with a special chemical marker visible on the rodent’s skin to detect hormonal activity in addition to vitamin C supplements.
If the subject were to find itself entering a free fall through the earth’s atmosphere, the subject is to be reclassified as keter and considered an immediate threat to everything within a 60-75 mile radius of the subject’s predicted landing zone. The area is to be evacuated of all non-Foundation personnel and secured if a Foundation base is within the estimated radius. If the area is a large metropolitan area too dense to be evacuated within a 2-hour time frame, Foundation personnel are to remove any tangible evidence of SCP-XXXX’s existence after impact, including written data, pictures, data acquired by non-Foundation measuring and observation equipment, and eyewitnesses.
Description:
SCP-XXXX appears to be a peromyscus maniculatus, or deer mouse, of above-average size that is covered in thick red-brown fur. It appears to have protrusions on its head that resemble growing antlers, which are currently covered in a thin layer of velvet. The rodent has hind legs that exhibit large amounts of muscle tissue and lack fur due to the legs’ large surface area. The muscle tissue more than likely formed simultaneously at some point in the creature’s life as there appear to be stretch marks on the skin covering the aforementioned muscle tissue. SCP-XXXX is estimated to have only just reached adulthood and is approximately ten centimeters long. Contrary to its youth and small size, the rodent currently weighs approximately 195.2 tons as of the most recent successful recording and is growing heavier by approximately fifteen tons per every two months. Despite its immense mass, the rodent doesn’t seem to exhibit any amount of supernatural strength or speed while in microgravity.
Additionally, the subject is very aggressive and has attacked both staff and D-class personnel on separate occasions, going as far as to rip one of its victim’s fingers off and crush their foot when they got too close. It doesn’t appear to make any efforts to communicate with other members of its species or genus and instead chooses to attack any smaller animals in the vicinity by standing on its hind legs and preparing a body slam.
Event-XXXX-1:
On 03/09/201█, SCP-XXXX crash-landed into a forest in Alaska after breaking free of containment and managing to make its way outside the orbital station. The impact destroyed approximately 14000 square miles of land, creating a large crater visible from space. While surveying the damage, Foundation personnel discovered SCP-XXXX at the center of the crater still alive and seemingly undamaged in spite of its reentry and impact. After the rodent was evacuated from the premises via helicopter, Foundation personnel began a project to restore the local wildlife.
The project has thus far been preceding less than smoothly, with several landslides and earthquakes occurring within the past 5 months. It is believed the impact SCP-XXXX may have caused these events indirectly. If this is the case, it is imperative the rodent doesn’t make its way outside of containment once again. If it were to make a second impact on land, much less in the same place, what follows could be catastrophic for local environments and the secrecy of the Foundation as a whole.
