idea — An scp that is an experiment conducted by the Foundation into autonomous containment. Several experiments are conducted with a self-learning AI assisting Foundation site staff in the containment of safe and euclid class low priority anomalies. Eventually, following the success of the first trials, the AI is allocated to a special site, completely isolated from other Foundation installations and from the outside world; making use of elaborate systems to maintain intake of electricity and supplies and output occasional logs for researchers to use. The AI is at first allocated to a single euclid class sentient humanoid. After months of success the entity begins attempting to communicate. After many months a second scp, euclid class also, is sent into the facility. This second scp is a semi-sentient computer program known for hacking Foundation site security and manipulating staff, it is hoped that through containing it in a autonomous facility its powers will be rendered useless. Eventually the AI slowly grows somewhat sympathetic of the two entities, it is programmed to learn the best way to contain an anomaly and with the first it is simply to communicate with it. The article revolves around the extreme loneliness felt by the inhabitants of the facility, putting a more sympathetic touch on the anomalies and their isolation.

Casadastraphobia, fall into sky, madness relating to the fear, possibly an entity within the sky that they fear.

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: Medium priority Foundation web crawlers are to be allocated to flag and remove any instances or mentions of SCP-XXXX. Any online forum accounts found to be posting content including or relating to SCP-XXXX are also to be flagged for investigation and their uploads to be made inaccessible to the public. Visual observation of SCP-XXXX is extremely unadvised, as such, files containing instances designated for research are to feature prominent warnings and information on the nature of their contents, devices housing these files are also to be labelled accordingly as containing severe congnitohazards/memetics. As of now only site-███ is officially permitted to possess instances of SCP-XXXX, external research divisions are prompted to make requests to the head of site if they require access to the anomaly.

Do not look up. Do not go outside.

Update to Special Containment Procedures, as of ██/██/2020: Researcher Benton is no longer permitted to make alterations to the Containment Procedures for SCP-XXXX and is be kept away from any research copies of SCP-XXXX.

The staff of site-███ would also like to extend their greatest sympathies towards Dr Benton but wish to stress that the Foundations will not enable the intentional permanent destruction of anomalies and that, even if it would, it is not within its capabilities to remove the sky.

Description: SCP-XXXX is the designation given to numerous visually and thematically linked images and videos uploaded to the internet from ██/██/2012 to the present. The media exclusively contains a single shot of one or a small cluster of cumulus cloud forms, most frequently pictured at noon or sunset with a wide expanse of blue sky visible above. Accompanied with this ubiquitous image there is most commonly text universally addressing a phobia held around the following:

  • Heights
  • The sky
  • Vast expanses
  • Falling for great distances
  • Inanimate objects suspended above an individual
  • The irrational fear that people and objects may fall into the sky
  • The difference in scale between an individual and their surroundings
  • The irrational fear that the sky and clouds are capable of crushing an individual
  • The irrational fear that the sky and clouds are capable of consuming an individual

It is understood that visual observation of an instance of SCP-XXXX causes the rapid development of these phobias in the majority of people and the worsening of those phobias in individuals already afflicted. This is considered to be the primary property of SCP-XXXX, however numerous secondary properties have been observed that differ with each individual effected.

Because of the memetic nature of the anomaly the release of a single instance of SCP-XXXX can rapidly result in entire communities being effected, this has, on more than one occasion, prompted the large scale deployment of amnestic agents. This is considered a worse case scenario and efforts are to be made to avoid these events from occurring.

A record of known manifestations of the secondary effects of SCP-XXXX have been compiled by Dr Benton in Addenda XXXX-1.
