Item #: SCP-4986
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4986 is to be kept in Non-Critical Storage Unit 6, emptied of all water. Removal of SCP-4986 from its unit requires Level-3/4986 security clearance or higher, and is restricted to the transportation of SCP-4986 to a research facility. When placing SCP-4986, personnel should ensure that it is firmly upright and free of water.
Description: SCP-4986 is a 45 cm x 121 cm x 53 cm standard Marineland aquarium that has a capacity of 75 gallons. Water entering SCP-4986 will become purified, and suitable for both consumption and the housing of marine life. SCP-4986 will clean itself and remove any impurities from the water between intervals of approximately 24 hours. The method by which SCP-4986 accomplishes this is unknown.
Marine life has been shown to thrive within SCP-4986. Testings of marine life at their infancy have demonstrated that sea creatures will experience an exponential growth acceleration, reducing their life spans drastically. These sea creatures are otherwise unremarkable. The water displays no anomalous properties when removed from SCP-4986.
SCP-4986 was recovered from a museum in ████ during a raid by agents of the US Department of Agriculture. Agents were called in to investigate a case of reported animal abuse. At the scene, they found SCP-4986 with freshly laid eggs within it, as well as animals being abused for entertainment. The agents were clearing out all the cages with animals, when one agent noticed that adult sized fish were now present in the tank, even though eggs were in there just a couple of hours back. An embedded Foundation agent within the group sent to investigate reported the event immediately to the Foundation. Further investigations uncovered leads from the museum to Marshal, Carter and Dark Ltd., where SCP-4986 has been suspected to be used to rapidly breed rare and exotic sea creatures.
