Edeneric's Sandbox

Item #: 4___

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4_ is a section of beach near ███████, England. The area affected, Referred to as SCP-4_-1, has a length of 200m, however, the effect only triggers upon contact with sediment submerged by the previous high tide, hereby referred to as SCP-4_-2. The area of effect for creation of SCP-4-2 extends 50m into the ocean from the most recent low tide. SCP-4_-2 will lose it's anomalous effects if it is not submerged in water in SCP-4_-1 at the moment of the next high tide.

SCP-4_-1 is contained by a concrete wall in the ocean, going from underneath the sea bed to 5 metres above sea level at peak recorded high tide. Although the body of water is separate from the ocean, the water level and content will stay consistent with the water outside of the containment area.

The concrete wall is checked for damage by D-class personnel equipped with diving gear every week, and repaired if cracks are found. If a hole is located in the wall, a containment breach has occurred and the surrounding 1000 metres of coastline are to be locked down while the sediment is examined for instances of SCP-4_-2.

The main containment facility is nearby SCP-4_-1 and exists to maintain the concrete wall and a barbed wire fence around SCP-4_-1, under the guise of protecting a minefield from WW2. Any unidentified personnel seen within 50 metres of the fence are to be warned about the minefield. If they get within 5 metres of the fence they are to be detained and given a fine for trespassing. any attempt to damage the concrete wall, or attempt to collect SCP-4_-2, is to be met with immediate termination of the person.

If any reports of the effect of SCP-4_-2, hereby referred to as SCP-4_-3, are received, agents are to give Amnestics to any witnesses of the event and suppress any media coverage. Agents should then lock down an area of 100 metres around SCP-4_-3's occurrence and remove any SCP-4_-2 particles found.

ANY UNAUTHORISED COLLECTION OF SCP-4_-2 WILL BE MET WITH IMMEDIATE DEMOTION TO D-CLASS -O5-07

Description: SCP-4_-1 is the site of multiple deaths by drowning, and has featured mildly in the folklore of nearby towns as a haunted bay. SCP-4_-2 instances are particles of sand or other beach sediments that have been submerged by sea water in SCP-4_-1. SCP-4_-2 instances are composed of 50% Silica/original sediment material, and 50% unidentified element, hereby referred to as SCP-4_-4. Attempts to isolate SCP-4_-4 from SCP-4_-2 have proved unsuccessful.

SCP-4_-3 occurs upon contact with SCP-4_-2 by a living, sentient, humanoid being. SCP-4_-3 consists of the humanoid showing symptoms of an epileptic seizure, with the only difference being that all motion is towards the nearest body of water large enough to submerge the entirety of the humanoid. The humanoid will then attempt to submerge itself in the water. Any other suitable humanoids that come into contact with the affected subject will begin to experience intense fear of water until SCP-4_-3's conclusion.

This occurs when the original affected humanoid dies or 15 minutes have passed from initial contact. After the end of the event, contact with SCP-4_-2 by any affected subjects will not result in SCP-4_-3 for 24 (twenty-four) hours. The initial subjects have reported thinking that they were drowning while having a seizure and explained moving towards the water as believing the water was air, and not being able to breathe until reaching the water. Physical examination of affected subjects has shown no gained ability to breathe in water or loss of breathing while on land.

Test Logs:
Test #001:
The Class-D personnel is instructed to walk to the end of SCP-4_-1. Upon contact with SCP-4_-2, The D-Class shows symptoms of a seizure and travels towards the water. 3 minutes after submerging in the water, the D-Class dies.

Test #002:
Class-D #17482 is given instructions as per the previous test. When the subject begins the seizure, a net is thrown over them, immobilising 17482. After 15 minutes, the seizure stops.

Test #003:
The test proceeds the same way as 002, however after the net is thrown, the Class-D is dragged away from -2 by Agent Grey. Agent Grey then reported ''Something's up with the water, man. I'm not going near that'' after making contact with the Class-D. After 15 minutes, the seizure ends and Agent Grey states ''For some reason, the water doesn't look so bad anymore.''

Test #004:

A gorilla is released into SCP-4_-1 and food is placed on SCP-4_-2. The gorilla goes towards the food but triggers -3 and drowns.

Test #005:

A mountain goat is released into -1, and food is placed on -2. The goat walks over-2 and eats the food without triggering -3.

Test #006:

After high tide, #17482 is sent out to collect some -2 in a bucket. They accidentally activate -3 but Agent Grey throws the net over them. After the end of -3, #17482 finishes collecting the samples of -2, and returns to the facility.

An atomic analysis is conducted on -2. This proceeds until the next high tide due to failed attempts at identifying -4. As high tide occurs, all traces of -4 disappear from the sediment, and nothing happens when #17842 touches it.

Test #007:

Same as test 6, however instead of conducting analysis after collecting the sediment, most of the sediment is thrown on various D class at intervals of 1 (one) hour after high tide, some is kept in a freshwater cup, and the rest is kept in a bucket of seawater from -1. -3 stops occurring after 12 hours, when the high tide reaches its peak water level and the -2 in both freshwater and seawater retain the anomalous capabilities.

Interview Logs:

Interviewed: D-Class #17482

Interviewer: Dr Ërik

Foreword: This interview was conducted 1 (one) hour after Test #002

<Begin Log>

Dr Ërik: 17482, please explain what you experienced during the test. Start from the beginning, please.

D-Class #17482: I went onto the beach and started walking to the water, like Grey told me to, and I was suddenly deep underwater, facing the surface. I began to swim upwards, but some kinda fish people came and threw a net on Me, keeping me under the water. Eventually, I had to open my mouth to breathe, and suddenly I was back where I was before.

<End Log, >

Closing Statement: D Class #17482 has shown no direct trauma from the testing and has no reactions when forced to interact with bodies of water.

Addendum: All particles contaminated with SCP-4_-4 have lost their SCP-4_-4 components at the same time as their anomalous capabilities, suggesting a causal link between the two. Many humanoid fossils have been found in the surrounding area of SCP-4_-1. Samples of -2 are not to be used to contain other anomalies without the approval of Dr Ërik.
