SCP-3831**
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-3831 is to be kept in a 5x5x5 meter airtight steel box in temperatures of –80 °C to -150 °C at Site-18. Destruction of SCP-3138 is prohibited.
Description:
SCP-3831 is an Arduino circuit board in a home-made polyvinyl chloride case with a sticker showcasing the image of a man sleeping below a window, as well as a large moon outside, with the text "Good night!" placed on the top of the case. Attempts to remove the adhesive material and sticker have both failed as well as attempts to remove the installed flash memory.
The existence of SCP-3831 was discovered in the home of computer hobbyist [DATA REDACTED] (further referred to as █████), in ██████ Ontario, on ██/██/2013 after a forum post was made, which have since been deleted.
SCP-3831's anomalous properties were discovered after █████ slept within approximately 4 meters of SCP-3831. 5 hours previously, █████ had installed an open source Super Nintendo Entertainment System emulator.
The range that SCP-3831 functions seems to be dampened by any solid material. All materials that have been tested have been shown to dampen, but completely not cancel, SCP-3831s effects. When placed in an open area without any interference, SCP-3831's range seems to have a diameter of approximately 10 meters and loses all ability to manifest SCP-3138-1 when outside of a 15 meter radius of any subject.
SCP-3831 has the ability to manipulate a subjects dreams (manipulated dreams have been classified as SCP-3831-1 upon request of foundation administration) utilizing [DATA EXPUNGED] emitting from an unknown source. SCP-3831-1 starts as a seemingly exact recreation of the subjects previous day. Dreams produced by that are affected by SCP-3831 experience events (SCP-3831-2) throughout the day that cause negative emotional reactions such as anxiety, paranoia, and/or depression.
Instances of SCP-3831-2 have been studied and seem to vary depending on personal fears subjects may have. Political beliefs, religious beliefs or nationality of a subject does do not seem to affect SCP-3831-1 or SCP-3831-2.
Dreams forged by SCP-3831 have been described as lifelike by all tested Class D personnel as well as Dr. ██████. Both sensory and time perception in SCP-3831-1 is experienced in a lifelike fashion and any instances of SCP-3831-2 do not seem to effect sensory or time perception of SCP-3831-1.
SCP-3831-1 has not been found to have any long lasting effects and there have been no reports of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or schizophrenia developing because of SCP-3831. The nature of SCP-3831-1 seems to be akin to severe night terrors and medical cannabis has been proven to make the effects of SCP-3831 vastly weaker. (See Addendum 3831-5) Because of this ability, it is hypothesized that SCP-3831 targets the pontine tegmentum.
Addendum 1: SCP-3831
Addendum 3: SCP-3831
Addendum 4: SCP-3831
Dr. Johnson: "You telling me the Debuggers wanna "harnest" this thing's power to see if they can make a mind control device? They're out of their [EXPLETIVE EXPUNGED] minds at this point."
Addendum 5: SCP-3831
The effects of cannabis on SCP-3831 were discovered when subject D-████ ingested 2.5 grams of cannabis prior to recording of Entry 3 of Testing Log-3831, unbeknownst to the administration. The effects of cannabis on SCP-3138 have lead MTF Mu-4 to believe that SCP-3831 triggers signals to a subjects as opposed to disabling parts of a subjects as was previously thought. Further testing is to be held using different mind altering drugs. Further testing is no longer permitted after Incident 3831.
Testing Log: This is a log of all subjects recollections of SCP-3831-1
Entry 1
Subject: D-4159 "I have no idea how to explain it but I'll try. Seriously it was like an some sort of drug trip- uh, sorry. So, uh, I was in my bed you know. Like it was so real I actually though I'd just woken up, like just another day in the facility, but then death defying things started happening. There were light failures, doors getting stuck. Near breaches that were corrected. It was terrifying. Then I was put into 173's chamber and forced to test with that; something that's obviously out of the question in real life- that was the point that I started thinking something was up. I never died, but I was damn close a couple times but when I went back to sleep in the dream, Awake but Still Asleep
Entry 2
Subject: Dr. ██████ "It started like any other day. I woke up, did my morning routine, same old stuff, but when it came to me driving to work; that's when SCP-3831-2 started taking effect. It started off with have a near accident. Then, after I arrived safely, there were numerous things that outright terrified me. I recieved a text that my mother had died. I'd nearly opened the cell of various other SCPs in the facility, just a bunch of anxiety inducing things. Really shook me up."
Entry 3
Subject: D-2143 "So basically, everything wrong happened. I turn on the news, first thing I see; terrorist attack. A murder happens next door. Just completely terrifying things. Oh yeah, there was an explosion that happened to a nuclear plant in a city next to mine; killed thirty thousand people. Not to mention how real it felt. That's a whole other can of beans"
Further testing has been prohibited as of incident 3831.

Dr. ██████: Alright, D-8493. Welcome.
D-8493: Hey doc, you can call me Ron for the time being.
Dr. ██████: Well, uh, alright Ron. We've been giving the okay by administration by the foundation to do some experimentations with the effects of SCP-3138 while under the influence cannabis.
D-8493: Hell yeah, haven't done weed since high school.
Dr. ██████: Don't get ahead of yourself, we still need to follow foundation protocol. Meaning you will be able to ingest a maximum of █ grams of the stuff.
D-8493: Fair enough. I'm a lightweight so this'll be enough for the effects of it me pretty hard.
Dr. ██████: Well alright, let's get started. Just to give you a bit of… reassurance; this SCP isn't physically harmful in any way. I've already been under its effects once, not high obviously.. You've already read the document I'd assume, with the quotes and all.
D-8493: Sure did. Sounded scary reading it, but I'm just glad I'm not doing this sober.
Dr. ██████: I am also going to be using the cannabis for this study and we will both be given the proper resources such as food, drinks and a proper sleeping quarters.

Dr. ██████: So- uh, Ron. I am currently intoxicated by the… weed. How about you?
D-8493: Yeah.
Dr. ██████: Yeah, anyways I'm gonna bring out the food now because I'm… hungry, to say the least.
Dr. ██████ and D-8493 proceed to eat several bags of ████ brand potato chips, one 1 Litre of █████ brand soda and 2 █████ chocolate bars whilst talking about their daily lives in the foundation.
Dr. ██████: So, I think we are properly… fed. I will be attempting to manifest SCP-3138-1 and SCP-3138-2… I'm going to sleep is what I'm saying.
D-8493: Dope.

Both Dr. ██████ and D-8493 reported that there were effects from SCP-3831 whilst under the influence of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD), they both described that instances SCP-3138-2 caused positivity and happiness instead of distress and anxiety.
Testing of SCP-3138 has been prohibited as of 04/08/████ after Dr. ██████ initiated in a conversation about the foundation whilst intoxicated, this behaviour could compromise foundation security, protocol and information and will not be tolerated by foundation administration.
