The location from which SCP-XXXX was recovered after local reports of anomalous occurrences
I'm not certain whether to use this header, or the more traditional object class format
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a standard containment cell for humanoid entities. Following further testing, SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a large, soundproof containment cell with a clearly marked 5 metre perimeter surrounding it to prevent its anomalous effects from affecting other parts of the facility. Personnel situated nearby are forbidden to disturb the subject outside of testing to prevent any unnecessary manifestations of hostile SCP-XXXX-1 instances.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a Caucasian male of approximately 27 years of age who is in a permanent state of deep REM sleep. The entity is capable of sustaining basic life functions without the need for any form of food or water, although it appears to suffer from major muscle atrophy, presumably due to an extended period in this state.
SCP-XXXX was initially recovered from a house in ██████ after several reports to local police of anomalous occurrences near the site such as sightings of suspicious individuals or lapses in the laws of physics. These reports were intercepted by the foundation, and all individuals claiming to have witnessed SCP-XXXX have been administered class A amnestics.
I'm considering developing this into some amount of a narrative detailing the origins of this SCP, potentially involving "demographics interested in specific sleep-related activities" which SCP-3969 monitored by the foundation (With permission of course). Alternatively, I could give exposition on the SCP by making it manifest it's own dreams, but that may be adding too many different abilities
The anomalous properties of SCP-XXXX manifest when a sentient life form comes within a 5 meter radius of the entity. Subjects within the specified radius experience altered physics and impaired perception, similar to the effects experienced within the dream. Initial tests of these properties are below.
Testing logs are obviously quite useful in this page, but I'm not sure how best to use them for exposition on the SCP, and still keeping it entertaining to read
Test A -(Add a date later)__
Subject: D-5794
Procedure: Reading a short passage from a novel at varying distances from SCP-XXXX
Results: To those observing the subject, the text contained within the novel appeared as a random sequence of words with no coherent pattern between them. Despite this, D-5794 read this passage with no difficulty until the distance between the subject and the SCP exceeded approximately 5 metres, at which point anomalies associated with the text ceased.
Analysis: SCP-XXXX's reality bending properties appear to have a finite range to them, unable to exceed a 5 metre distance from itself.
Test B -(Add a date later)__
Subject: Dr ████ █████
Procedure: Attempting to wake SCP-XXXX from sleep
Results: Upon approaching SCP-XXXX, several entities materialized nearby, bearing the forms of several SCP's, members of family and foundation personnel with personal attachment to the subject, which all promptly —attacked and killed Dr █████, via blunt physical force, leaving a heavily wounded corpse behind —. Several days after this experiment, the foundation received communications from Dr █████, claiming that he awoke in a bed approximately 9 miles from the site, with only vague memories of the preceding incident.
Analysis: Further analysis of the corpse left behind by the SCP show that it possesses DNA perfectly matching that of Dr █████. Additional information concerning the additional entities have been appended to the report. Security camera footage also shows that the entities passed the marked 5 metre perimeter around the SCP, indicating that they can exceed this boundary.
Following these experiments, it can be concluded that SCP-XXXX is capable of creating entities, henceforth referred to as SCP-XXXX-A, to protect itself from being awoken or harmed, with the forms of these entities being derived from the subconscious of the subject. Instances of SCP-XXXX-A appear to single-mindedly pursue anyone who disturbs SCP-XXXX, attempting to terminate them through any means necessary. Upon completion of this task, the instance of SCP-XXXX-A will cease to exist, and the subject will awaken in a seemingly randomly determined bed in the surrounding area. Following this, the subject will have little to no memory of being attacked by SCP-XXXX-A.
The preceding section seems to wordy, but I'm not quite sure how to condense it to be easier to read, whilst still keeping the content intact
The major problem I have with what I have so far is the lack of cohesion, I feel like adding a narrative aspect would help, But i'm not really sure how to go about doing that with what I have already. This would also help draw it away from the "thing that does a thing" pattern
I think clarification on its abilities would also help, but I'm not sure which ones are interesting, and which ones serve no purpose. "manifesting dreams" is a pretty open ability set which needs some narrowing down. e.g: Manifesting it's own dreams, altered physics, altered perception, SCP-XXXX-A, the whole bed thing etc…
